Emily Jordan Osment (born March 10, 1992 in Los Angeles, California) is an American actress, singer and spokesmodel. Her breakthrough role as Gerti Giggles in the Spy Kids trilogy earned her many nominations and awards. She became an overnight sensation playing the role of Lilly Truscott in the Disney Channel Emmy Award-nominated[1] TV series, Hannah Montana, the series premiere scored record ratings for Disney Channel with a viewership of 5.4 million viewers. She is also known for starring in RL Stine's: The Haunting Hour Volume One: Don't Think About It as Cassie. As of December 2007, she is working on a movie spin-off from Hannah Montana, titled The Hannah Montana Movie which is due to be released in late 2008 or early 2009.[2]
Early life
Emily Osment was born in Los Angeles, California [3], where her family still resides, to actor Eugene Osment and Theresa Osment (née Seifert), a teacher.[4][5] Osment has never been a stranger to the world of entertainment and acting. Her father, Eugene Osment, is an actor of various films, and her older brother is Academy Award-nominated actor Haley Joel Osment. Osment was raised Catholic.[6]She was a student at Flintridge Preparatory School in La Cañada, California. She stated on The View that she is currently taking online courses.[citation needed]
Career
Emily Osment's foray into the entertainment industry began in 1998, when she was cast in a commercial for flower delivery company, FTD.[7] From there, she went on to feature in many commercials, after which, she made her acting debut in the 1999 film The Secret Life of Girls, featuring Eugene Levy and Linda Hamilton. The same year she co-starred alongside Glenn Close in the Hallmark Classic telefilm, Sarah, Plain and Tall: Winter's End, a role that would lead to a nomination for a "Young Artists Award".[7] Since then, she has gone on to do a number of roles, such as appearances on television shows like Touched by an Angel, Friends, and 3rd Rock From the Sun.
She is currently working on the Disney Channel series, Hannah Montana, playing the role of Lilly Truscott. The role lead to a nomination for a "Young Artists Award" for Best Performance in a TV series (Comedy or Drama) Supporting Young Actress. The series premiere scored record ratings for Disney Channel with a viewership of 5.4 million viewers, a response "beyond our wildest expectations," according to the president of Disney Channel Entertainment.[8][9] The show earned her a Young Artist Award nomination in 2007 for Best performance in a TV series (Comedy or Drama).
In addition, Disney released a Hannah Montana clothing collection in late summer. Osment helped to design some of the pieces from the collection.[10]
Osment also had a voice over role in a movie called Holidaze: The Christmas That Almost Didn't Happen, which also featured the voices of fellow Disney Channel stars, Brenda Song and Dylan and Cole Sprouse.[11][12][13]
In 2006, Osment was invited to participate in the first Disney Channel Games and was a member of the Green Team. In 2007, she was a member of a new team that year, the Yellow Team. She also starred as a goth in RL Stine's: The Haunting Hour Volume One: Don't Think About It[14][15][16][17] (co-starring with Hannah Montana's co-star Cody Linley). It has been released on DVD.
In 2007, Osment signed a deal to appear in a nationwide campaign called "Smart Girls Rock" by the New York based denim brand Vanilla Star.[18] Osment is set to star in a new Disney Channel Original Movie called Dadnapped co-starring Disney Channel stars Jason Earles and David Henrie.[19] As a result Osment won the Poptastic Rising Star award for Popstar! Magazine's 6th Annual Poptastic Awards. In 2007, Osment appeared on the cover of many teen magazines including Teen People, Cosmo Girl and Seventeen. In 2007, Osment designed a line of T-Shirts for 2lovecollection.com, the T-Shirts support Make a WishFoundation and the St. Jude Research Hospital.[20]
Osment's screen debut is in Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams (which led to a "Young Artist Award" for Best performance in a feature film) and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, where Osment portrays the character Gerti Giggles.[21]Osment has a series of voice over roles in Walt Disney movies like The Jungle Book 2,The Hunchback of Notre Dame II and Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch. Osment also had a voice over role in Edward Fubbwupper Fibbed Big.
Osment has starred in RL Stine's: The Haunting Hour Volume One: Don't Think About It [22][23][24], for which she recorded a song entitled "I Don't Think About It". This movie also stars Cody Linley, who has guest-starred on Hannah Montana. The movie earned her a Young Artist Award nomination in 2008 for Best Performance in a TV Movie, Miniseries or Special Leading Young Actress. According to her rep, Osment is currently filming a Disney Channel Original Movie, Dadnapped.
According to an audio interview with Emily backstage at the Grammys, she is to start filming a new movie called Soccer Mom.[25]
Emily Osment sang vocals in Billy Ray Cyrus's song "You've Got a Friend" from his 2007 album, Home at Last. Osment has also recorded a song entitled "I Don't Think About It" for RL Stine's: The Haunting Hour Volume One: Don't Think About It under the label Hatchery, which she shot an accompanying music video for. The video was released in the The Haunting Hour Volume One: Don't Think About It DVD, and premiered on Cartoon Network. The song was #1 in the top 30 songs beating fellow disney stars Miley Cyrus who was #2 and the Jonas Brothers who were #3.The song also ranked #2 in Philippines Top 20 and in the Top 100 Kids Singles. The song later ranked #8 in Itunes Top 30. The track was featured in Radio Disney Jams 10 CD.
In addition, Osment has also been recording songs with The Disney Channel Circle Of Friends, the songs are going to be released in 2008. According to an audio interview with Emily backstage at the Grammys, she is currently writing and recording tracks with Eve 6.[26]
Personal life
Osment is close friends with fellow Hannah Montana co-stars Miley Cyrus and Mitchel Musso, often texting and conference calling each other during busy days. [8] Miley Cyrus taught Emily Osment how to play the guitar and Osment taught Cyrus how to knit. Another good friend of Emily's from the Hannah Montana cast is Cody Linley, with whom she shared the screen with for R.L. Stine's: The Haunting Hour Volume One: Don't Think About It. She is also friends with the stars of the highly successful TV movie High School Musical, including Vanessa Hudgens and the stars of the Disney Channel Original series The Suite Life Of Zack and Cody including Brenda Song and Ashley Tisdale.
Osment also mentioned during an interview on The View that her favorite books are those of the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer.
Osment enjoys golfing and participated in 10th Annual Michael Douglas & Friends Celebrity Golf Event with her brother, Haley Joel. In an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Osment stated that she looks up to Audrey Hepburn and is a big fan of "Breakfast at Tiffany's".
