Someone asked me via email what is the secret that I've gotten so much vandalism plasted on my pages (130 counts!), drive-by harrassments (coined by Bugs!) and impersonators. To which, I can only reply you something two different Admins told me on two different pages/time:-
I haven't seen the film so I don't know how they develop the idea, but it certainly works for the big things -- such as "doing good", "becoming peaceful" and so forth. Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they look for a place to dump it. And if you let them, they’ll dump it on you.
So when someone wants to dump on you, don’t take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Believe me. You’ll be happier. --THE LAW OF THE GARBAGE TRUCK

Hi Dave. I really wanted to use a industrial cleaner strength version of Troll-be-Gone on Herb's errant nonsense on your page yesterday but as it involved a bogus 3rr report I thought it was better if you were able to track the whole thing. Thanks, Dave. I did the best I could; my template drop-down menu stopped working a few days back. I haven't messed with my preferences other than to disable Visual Editor. Do you think that could be the problem or is a browser incompatibiity more likely? Tiderolls17:28, 28 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Dave, our friend HCobb has created Glenn Marine Group, which appears to be based in Singapore. I think it can meet GNG, but I'm not certain. I rescued it from Prod, but it'll probably got to AFD soon anyway, as it really is a shoddy attempt to make an article. I'm not planning on doing Henry's work for him to try to save it, as I've no interest or background in the subject. I have asked for help at WTSHIPS. Do you anything about the company, or an editor who might be interested in working on the article? Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 08:24, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowserCheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. This message was sent as a courtesy reminder to all active members of the Military History WikiProject.
G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:
tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting
As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. For the co-ordinators, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:35, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

Hello Dave1185,
Early in A Child's Christmas in Wales the young Dylan and his friend Jim Prothero witness smoke pouring from Jim's home. After the conflagration has been extinguished Dylan writes that
Nobody could have had a noisier Christmas Eve. And when the firemen turned off the hose and were standing in the wet, smoky room, Jim's Aunt, Miss. Prothero, came downstairs and peered in at them. Jim and I waited, very quietly, to hear what she would say to them. She said the right thing, always. She looked at the three tall firemen in their shining helmets, standing among the smoke and cinders and dissolving snowballs, and she said, "Would you like anything to read?"
My thanks to you for your efforts to keep the 'pedia readable in case the firemen chose one of our articles :-) Best wishes to you and yours and happy editing in 2019. MarnetteD|Talk18:47, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Dave, good to you around again, and I hope all is well with you and yours. Btw, I saw Special:Contributions/Dave1247 this user the other day, and wondered if maybe your username had been the victim of inflation. :) - BilCat (talk) 16:58, 26 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It seems several of the articles related to this conflict have already been semi-protected, and more will probably need to be before too long. Sigh. - BilCat (talk) 16:59, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
In many cases, they are childish and immature because they are children and young teenagers. Unfortunately, many are adults too. But it's not surprising either, as neither culture seems to have a real concept of what bias is. - BilCat (talk) 17:21, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That said, we actually have several editors from the past couple of years who heavily edit Indian-related military and aviation articles. They appear to be of South Asian origin or descent, and do a great job of keeping these articles neutral, as they understand the nuances of Indian-related issues better than most of us Westerners. - BilCat (talk) 18:38, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
See here. Wow, such hatred and bitterness I cannot understand. Sad, because the dude is actually quite intelligent. Reminds of our old pal Upchuckya the not great. Anyway, I'm glad his access was finally revoked. I tried to get him to see reason just to see if it was possible, but it wasn't. Apparently he considered reason a Western concept and an attempt to subjugate "brown people". Also, everything I might possibly have said had already been taken down in evidence against me. Very sad. - BilCat (talk) 21:47, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
In fairness, he'd been reverted as an IP an article, perhaps HAL Tejas, and created the account after those reverts. The thing is, I, and many other users, actually do believe INDICSCRIPT is too restrictive, but totally understand why it was put in place. But I've no interest in pursuing that on my own at this time, for some odd reason. :)
On something completely different, I'm beginning to believe that Tejas has been mistranslated, and is really Sanskrit for "government project that accomplishes nothing substantive after 40 years, and is long obsolete", or perhaps "eternal government project". :) - BilCat (talk) 23:37, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, short of banning the whole Subcontinent, we don't know who the clowns are before they show themselves to be clowns. And there is no way the WMF is going to ban the Indian subcontinent; they'll ban the whole US long before they dare to ban India!. - BilCat (talk) 00:20, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I got to revert this guy as well. Aside from WP:INDICSCRIPT and no refs, I find the most troubling trend in society these days is labelling every offence "racism". "My coffee is cold, its racism", "It's snowing outside, and the snow is white, clearly racist". Yawn. - Ahunt (talk) 12:31, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Were you around when old User:MickMacNee used to occasionally (we never knew how occasionally, but I suspected it was quite often) edit while under the influence? Now someone else has found out that's not a good idea. Facepalm - BilCat (talk) 00:07, 30 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, different person, different problems. Now another long-term tendentious editor's time has run out, Thewolfchild, though he has actually shown remarkable improvement over the years. Sometimes the WP:ROPE just runs out. - BilCat (talk) 14:49, 2 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How to mark images to upload without it being deleted later?
Hey there, I feel like uploading few new images to some old articles on wiki, but i'm not sure how to mark them in free use not to get deleted :c
First I'd like to fill some blank spots in this one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_coins_and_banknotes
What options do I click on in commons, I know simple question, but so far i've only contributed to topics in pure text...
BTW the images would come from nbp (National Bank of Poland) which as far as i know allows pictures to be displayed.
