Delhi is a city and union territory in India, the territory occupying an area of some 1,483 square kilometres (572 square miles) with a population of approximately 14 million. The principal spoken languages are Hindi and Urdu.
The two largest cities of Delhi are the city of Delhi and India's capital, New Delhi.
On March 20, 1739, Nadir Shah occupied Delhi and proceeded to sack and plunder the city. He also stole the famous jewels of the Peacock Throne.
