Ghantasala mandal is one of the 50 mandals in Krishna district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.[2] The headquarters of this mandal is located at Ghantasala town. The mandal is bordered by Pamidimukkala mandal and Movva mandal to the north, Guduru mandal to the east, Mopidevi mandal to the south and Krishna river to the west.[3]
Demographics
As of 2011 census, the mandal had a population of 40,098 living in 12,946 households. The total population constituted 20,182 males and 19,916 females, for a sex ratio of 987 females per 1000 males.[4] There were 3,251 children in the age group of 0–6 years, of which 1,783 were boys and 1,468 were girls, for a sex ratio of 823. The average literacy rate stands at 73.85% with 27,212 literates, of which 14,319 are males and 12,893 are females. There were 14,693 members of Scheduled Castes and 1,155 members of Scheduled Tribes.[5]
Labor Statistics
As per the report published by Census of India in 2011, 21,671 people were engaged in work activities, including 12,566 males and 9,105 females. In the census, 19,547 workers describe their work as main work, 2,277 as cultivators, 13,391 as agricultural labourers, 927 in household industry and 2,952 were involved in other works. Of these, only 2,124 were marginal workers.[6]
Administration
Ghantasala mandal is administered under the Avanigadda Assembly constituency of the Machilipatnam Lok Sabha constituency.[7] It is one of the twelve mandals those falls under Machilipatnam revenue division.

As of 2011 census, there are a total of 20 settlements in the mandal. Ghantasala is the largest and Birudugadda is the smallest in terms of population.[8]

Education
The mandal plays a major role in education for the rural students of nearby villages. The primary and secondary school education is imparted by government, aided by private schools, under the School Education Department of the state.[9] As per the school information report for the academic year 2015–16, the mandal has more than 2,489 students enrolled in over 56 schools.[10][11]
