Lostprophets' upcoming fourth studio album will possibly be released in mid 2009 through Columbia Records in North America and Visible Noise in Europe. This will be Lostprophets first studio album in 3 years, since Liberation Transmission in 2006. It is currently unknown if a title has even been decided upon by the band. The record will be the band's first studio album to feature new drummer Longineu W. Parsons III from Yellowcard, since Ilan Rubin left the band in early 2009.[1] Rubin is now the current drummer of rock act Nine Inch Nails.[3] It has been described as more aggresive than their previous release which featured more melodic textures.
Writing and Recording
After releasing their 2006 album, Liberation Transmission, and finishing touring the band felt they "have gotten a lot of their pop vibes out of their system" and were looking to do something different.[4][5] They wanted it to sound "darker" or "nastier" and also wanted to release it faster than any previous effort.[6] As stated by Ian Watkins "we’ve done 25 songs and we’re going to put 10 on the album. We recorded it in LA in the producer’s house, which is cool."[6] When Watkins was asked how it was to work with Feldmann he said "it's working well, Feldman is a cool guy, he did The Used album, Story Of The Year and a load of other cool bands."[2] At this point the band hoped to write the album in early 2007, record over the summer, and release the album by winter.[7][8]
By Christmas of 2007 the band had recorded 14 or more songs, and pushed the release date back to summer of 2008. Although they currently have enough tracks to officially release the album, they are exploring various new ideas for the as of yet untitled album.
The band have re-entered the studio to record the final few songs they wrote during a break from the studio. They will then pick the songs that will be released on the album. During a show at the London, Astoria, frontman Watkins apologised for the album's delay, but said that it was in its final stages of completion and that it would be "the best album you've ever heard, or your money back!". Visible Noise has not yet commented on this offer. They also debuted a new song - "It's Not the End of the World But I Can See it From Here" - on a warm up tour for their headline slot at 2008's Download Festival.[9] In an interview conducted in July, 2008, Watkins confirmed that they were "finishing up the record," and that he expected its release to be in "late January or early February" of 2009.[10]
Another title was added when the band played at V Festival, "These Streets of Nowhere"[11] Soon after, the band confirmed with Rock Sound magazine that they had "ditched" an album's worth of material and were continuing with writing and recording.[12] The writing of the album was announced "finished" at Sheffield and Birmingham gigs.[12] The album is set for a Spring 2009 release.[12] Ilan Rubin will leave Lostprophets to join Nine Inch Nails following completion of the Lostprophets album.[13]
