Mincivan (Azerbaijani: Mincivan), or Mijnavan (Armenian: Միջնավան) is a town in the Kashatagh Region of the so called Republic of Nagorno Karabakh. However, it is a de jure part of the Republic of Azerbaijan, with the status of an administrative division of the surrounding Zangilan Rayon.
History
Mincivan was part of the Zangezur Uyezd of the Elisabethpol Governorate of Russian Empire.
According to Soviet census of 1933, Mincivan town of Zangilan District of Azerbaijan SSR had 322 residents (169 men, 153 women). The entire village council (the villages of Bakharly, Dellakli, Tarakeme), whose center was Minjivan, consisted of 100% of Azerbaijanis.[2]
Mincivan had 5506 residents in 1989.[3] The Azerbaijani residents of the city were deported during the Nagorno-Karabakh War and there are 300 people living in the town as of 2015.[1]
