Revision as of 23:14, 12 February 2010
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | |
---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism. Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here |

Rapunzel (film) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Temporary semi-protection, An unverifiable Facebook edit has suggested that the film's name is being changed to Tangled. While ultimately this may be true, there is no proof of it, and a lot of IPs are coming in making the change. We've started discussion on the talk page about this, and I think temporary (<3 day) protection would be helpful. McDoobAU93 (talk) 22:36, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Semi-protect. Like most Olympic city articles during the time of their Olympics, the article receives a jump in visits and correspondingly, large amounts of vandalism. We have seen a steady increase in vandalism compared to the norm and especially today, the opening, have seen quite a spike. Would be nice to ensure the article remains as clean as possible for all our new visitors. Mkdwtalk 20:17, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection vandalism, There are several IPs (most likely used by the same person) who are vandalizing the article - using unrelated sources which mention nothing about the person in question. Not only that, they are insulting people in the talk page. Since they are using multiple IPs, protection of the page is the only option. Ketabtoon (talk) 19:31, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Dudley_Brown (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Semi-protect. High level of IP vandalism. Erroneous remarks that have no basis of truth other than hearsay and intent to defame subject content. Repeated changes made from several IP sources that are not backed, and are made out of bad faith. some positive constructive changes, but most changes to account are not of useful nature, and are slanderous. - Well, there appears to be alot more random vandalism than helpful edits from unknown IPs. I would say every 7-14 days, someone from a random IP vandalizes the site. Only a few days ago, someone from a random IP did a Flood of vandalism ruining the page. I had to revert to an older edition of the page just to fix it. Please reconsider. Yehuda Amichai (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Temporary full protection dispute, There's a dispute/edit war going on here (I'm one of the parties) over User:Afalpi's repeated removal of sourced material and the pursuit of his own POV (including his own analyisis of Primary sources). We're trying mediation, with the help of User:Epeefleche - see Talk:Yehuda_Amichai#Moving_forward. I've suggested that all parties hold off making any edits while we mediate, but User:Afalpi won't stop making his own POV changes and won't discuss them. I wonder if protecting this page for a little while might help? (If you think so, I think Afalpi's most recent change should be reverted at the same time - as you can see, it breaks the text format of the article at least - and I've detailed the faults with it here). . -- Boing! said Zebedee 07:52, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
- Have reverted the most recent change, as someone else had already made a modification to it - if we leave it, it just gets harder and harder to eventually get back to something good. -- Boing! said Zebedee 14:53, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

- Temporary semi-protection vandalism, A dynamic IP 187.132.XXX.XX had been disruptively editing a section of the Oaxaca article that dealt with protests by the "APPO". That article was semi-protected on 10-02-03. Since it can no longer disruptively edit that article, it has now moved on to the APPO article itself, making the same, unexplained, disruptive edits. Attempts to talk with "it" have been unsuccessful. . nsaum75¡שיחת! 03:47, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
- The IP just reverted it again, without discussion. --nsaum75¡שיחת! 10:29, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, this is really getting old. Repeated uncited edits per WP:Terrorist, WP:NPOV and WP:RS, with a dynamic IP address that doesnt seem interested in talking, seems to constitute vandalism and not a content dispute. --nsaum75¡שיחת! 15:36, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Current requests for unprotection
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
Template:Infobox organization ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
According to the talk page discussion there is consensus to restore the predecessor and successor fields of this template. It could be done by restoring this version of this template. The protecting admin was requested by this note, but he has a wikibreak. Most likely, there will be also other changes in the future but they still need a further discussion. Thank you. Unclear why this page is protected, but relevant information about this mayoral candidate is incapable of being added to the article.
Not unprotected Please discuss on the article's talk page. And also, contact admin Bearcat (talk · contribs). Cirt (talk) 22:12, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- An inappropriately POV assessment of his campaign launch, written by an WP:SPA editor who was visibly motivated by the desire to portray Giambrone as an inherently non-credible candidate for mayor rather than just a candidate who's faced some controversy, was being repeatedly added to the article despite being removed on more than one occasion. I've now added a more neutral summary of the matter in a more appropriate and suitable context. The matter in question, especially the latest news, is exactly the kind of thing where we consistently have a major problem with anonymous editors wanting to swoop in and use Wikipedia as a platform for criticism instead of an encyclopedia, which is why the page was protected. We need to be cautious and not overstep the bounds of policies such as WP:BLP and WP:NPOV here. Bearcat (talk) 23:31, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Also note that the original page protection expired on its own shortly after my earlier reply; the page is currently back open. I am continuing to monitor the article, and I will reapply protection if inappropriate content continues to be added to the article, but right now the page is not protected.
