::::Thanks Sam. I don’t appear to have been charged anything - it doesn’t look like FMP have any payment details for me anyway. I just got an invoice. I look forward to hearing from you about this being resolved. [[User:TrottieTrue|TrottieTrue]] ([[User talk:TrottieTrue|talk]]) 14:56, 9 January 2024 (UTC) |

The Wikipedia Library now available as a link in Google Scholar
A quick announcement that you can now add The Wikipedia Library as a link from Google Scholar results! This should match our holdings and send you through the library's proxy, so if you find a result in Scholar that's in the library, you can get quick and direct access to it. Thanks to Andyboorman for the suggestion, and courtesy ping to Jo-Jo Eumerus and SmartSE.
- Go to https://scholar.google.com/ while logged in to a Google account.
- Click the hamburger menu in the top corner and click Settings
- In the 'Library links' menu, search for Wikipedia
- Check the box next to "The Wikipedia Library - The Wikipedia Library"
- Click Save.
- You should now see "The Wikipedia Library" links next to applicable search results.
One minor issue with this is that the first screen you'll end up on from the results page will usually error, and you need to click the "open the page in a new window" link at the top. We're looking into this to see if we can resolve the problem. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 16:50, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks! I'll see if it works properly tomorrow... Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 17:02, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- It does seem to work very well. Thanks I will cascade to the Wikispecies community if you are happy for me to do so. Andyboorman (talk) 20:18, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Andyboorman Of course! Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 12:50, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
- Afraid that it links to EBSCO even when the source is already present in TWL, e.g ScienceDirect. Noting this because EBSCO is one of the less navigable bits of TWL. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 08:04, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Jo-Jo Eumerus Yeah this is just how that service is set up - we had to make the request of EBSCO to link with Google Scholar. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 12:50, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Samwalton9 (WMF) When I click on the "Wikipedia Library" link on Google Scholar, it prompts me to login with an EBSCO account & password. I don't think this is the expected behaviour. OhanaUnitedTalk page 20:45, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hmm, correct, it should take you to log in to The Wikipedia Library if you're not already logged in. I wonder if you could copy the URLs you're being sent to here to help us diagnose the problem. When I search for 'test' I see "The logrank test" as the first result. It has an nih.gov link and The Wikipedia Library. Clicking it sends me to the library to log in. After login I end up here as expected. Could you describe the steps/URLs you're sent through? Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 12:42, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

- It looks like the error I noted in my first message has now been fixed. Please let me know if it reoccurs. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 16:38, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
Looks fine today (but I'm on a different computer so who knows?) OhanaUnitedTalk page 21:54, 30 November 2023 (UTC)- @Samwalton9 (WMF): Still got the same issue on the computer when I initially reported the problem. OhanaUnitedTalk page 05:43, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
- @OhanaUnited Odd - could you provide the URLs that you're seeing, similarly to my example comment above? That will help us diagnose the issue. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 12:58, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
- Unfortunately that was a while back and I can't find the link to retry it now. OhanaUnitedTalk page 14:36, 13 December 2023 (UTC)

Tripped an automated security rule
Hi, I am getting an error message on trying to access collections:
You have tripped an automated security rule in EZProxy. Common reasons for this might be trying to download too many items in a short period of time or using a web proxy.
I haven't used the Library for at least a week (was getting the same error at that point) and am not using a proxy. I was using it without problems up until about a month ago. Error message appears after clicking "access Library" (or access collections, not sure what the text is) and after selecting a collection. It doesn't seem to make a difference which collection I try to access, though I haven't tried them all.
Any advice appreciated. Thanks. Tacyarg (talk) 09:28, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Tacyarg The reason looks to be downloading slightly too many (or too large) files in a short timeframe. I've removed the block on your account so the library should work again for you now. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 15:43, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you, this is great, all working again. Tacyarg (talk) 17:50, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
The Wikipedia Library emails are currently broken for many users
This is a quick notice to let you know that Wikipedia Library email notifications are not currently working as intended. You may not receive emails such as application approvals or access instructions until the issue is resolved. We will endeavour to manually re-send emails on a regular basis but apologise if the service isn't reliable over the coming weeks. We're exploring some other options for notifying users, such as using Echo notifications and directing users towards information in the library, and we'll let you know when we have opportunities for input into those potential solutions.
If you have any questions or expected to receive an email that you didn't, please let me know. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 12:36, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
Newspapers.com
@Samwalton9 (WMF): When I go to the publisher extra papers on Newspapers.com (e.g. [1]), I receive a message that I need to "upgrade to a publisher extra subscription" in order to view it - I thought the Wikipedia Library gave access to all newspapers.com pages? BeanieFan11 (talk) 19:39, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
- @BeanieFan11 I also thought this. Let me check with them :) Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 10:26, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
Collection access
After logging into Wikipedia Library, I cannot open any of the collections. Any error message is received ie. www-jstor-org.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org didn’t send any data. Similar message for each collection with just the collection name changing. What could the problem be? Thanks. Conlinp (talk) 21:22, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Conlinp Please try clearing cookies for oclc.org. Let me know if that fixes the issue or not. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 13:23, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Samwalton9 (WMF) Tried that first. Did not make any difference. Tried both Edge and Google browsers, same problem. Conlinp (talk) 12:37, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
OUP problem
From time to time, it errors out, redirecting to an URL https://academic-oup-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/HTTPHandlers/Sigma/LoginHandler.ashx&client_id=ACADEMIC&state=9fbe16bf-3ac2-46f8-81da-f3e939dfa0f0redirecturl=httpszazjzjacademiczyoupzycomzwwikipedialibraryzwidmzwoclczworgzjCustomErrorzsstatusCodezr404zn404z003Bhttpzazjzjacademiczwoupzwcomza80zjHTTPHandlerszjSigmazjLoginHandlerzwashxznclientzxidzrACADEMICznstatezrd369cc1azy6d30zy4271zy8349zycecd566648a0redirecturlzrhttpszzazzjzzjacademiczzyoupzzycomzzwwikipedialibraryzzwidmzzwoclczzworgzzjmnraszzjarticlezzyabstractzzj525zzj2zzj2708zzj7244726 Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 19:09, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
Find My Past invoice
I have received an invoice from Find My Past for £157.24, due today. Presumably this has been sent in error? I was emailed, with a message saying “Please contact us at support@findmypast.com to make payment arrangements.” TrottieTrue (talk) 01:09, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
- @TrottieTrue That's definitely not intended. Can you cancel your subscription for now? I'll email our contact right away. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 11:45, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
- I have cancelled it. On 1 January I got an email saying: “Your Pro subscription will renew on 8 January 2024, granting you another 12 months of access to our vast record collection, handy family tree builder and so much more.
- Because you’ve opted for auto-renewal in your account settings, we’ll take payment on 8 January 2024 and as our way of saying thank you for your loyalty, we'll apply a 15% discount. With billions of records at your fingertips, what fascinating discoveries will you make?”
- Can you please resolve this for me?
- TrottieTrue (talk) 14:01, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
- @TrottieTrue Absolutely, and my apologies that you're having to deal with this. We had a lot of confusion around the codes at the outset of the partnership and weren't made aware of the proper procedure for activating them until recently. You (and all other BNA/FMP users) can expect to receive an email from me later today with more information.
- Have you been charged money, or have you just received an invoice? Did you enter credit card details into the Find My Past website? If you'd rather discuss this over email please feel free to contact me at swaltonwikimedia.org. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 14:24, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks Sam. I don’t appear to have been charged anything - it doesn’t look like FMP have any payment details for me anyway. I just got an invoice. I look forward to hearing from you about this being resolved. TrottieTrue (talk) 14:56, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
- @TrottieTrue Thanks for that, very helpful. I've emailed support@ and cc'd you and our FMP contact to get this invoice cancelled. Sam Walton (talk) 15:17, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
