No, those templates are all fine. I just think it's important to mention that, because it's always a mess for the Stub Sorting project when templates or categories are created, which were not proposed first. Stub types only make sense if there are at lease aroung 60 stubs of that type and when editors create templates without proposing them first they generally do not reach this figure.--[[User:Carabinieri|Carabinieri]][[User talk:Carabinieri|TTaallkk]] 18:30, 16 October 2006 (UTC) |

List of comic strips
It occurs to me another way of splitting it might be to go down a country of original publication route, so have a List of American comic strips, and list of British comic strips, and so on and so forth. What's your thoughts? Steve block The wikipedian meme 21:02, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
Sounds fine to me. The only question would be how many categories to include? I know that Adamson was syndicated under a variety of names in the US for some years, and I'm not sure how many countires of origin beyond the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, etc. should be included. Badbilltucker 23:40, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- Not sure I understand your point. What do you mean when you say categories, and who or what are you referring to when you say Adamson? As to countries of origin, when someone wants one I don't create, they'll most likely create it. Steve block Talk 16:06, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
And my boundless thanks to Mr. Steve Block, the Wikipedian meme, for his work on fixing my my mistakes on the list cited above. I know that he doesn't like having his own talk page cluttered with too many effusive thanks, and I feel strange putting it here myself, but such thanks are certainly in order in this instance. Thank you again, sir. Badbilltucker 13:10, 12 June 2006 (UTC) My mistake. I should have stated that we should have at least one list of strips from countries other than the UK, US, Canada (categorized by nation of origin), and the other significant producers. Adamson is the title of a (Swedish?) wordless comic strip which ran for several years, and, if I read it right, was maybe syndicated three times under different titles in the US market. However, I do think that separate pages for at least the US and UK strips would be probably the best way to go with them, as that is consistent with the way that things are done elsewhere here. Mell Lazarus
The two L's aren't a typo, that's really how it's spelled. see for yourself Jfpierce 04:30, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
- Not disagreeing with you, but I do note that the [Mel Lazarus page on the Lambiek Comiclopedia] and a few other sites as well go with the single L in the name Mel Lazarus, although they indicate that his actual name is spelled with two L's. I'm not really sure which would be preferable. Please advise. Badbilltucker 13:20, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
- I would say the way Lazarus spells his first name on his comic strip and the way his syndicate prints his first name, which is Mell with two L's. [1] I don't know why Lambiek uses the one-L spelling, but I see no reason to go against the cartoonist's own use. --Metropolitan90 01:38, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

The awesome people from City X cats
Good work on some of these subcats. I have been meaning to work on some of those. I did trim down some of the area that would be used to describe Category:People from Huntington, West Virginia The MSA is cobbled together around 3 small cities. People from the Kentucky counties would feel an bond with [[Ashland, Kentucky], for example. But hey, good work, I like where this is going. They make great subcats. Cheers. youngamerican (ahoy-hoy) 23:45, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for creating these! I just found your note at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Wisconsin, and wanted to let you know that they're being well-used already. I'm using AWB to better populate them (starting with Wisconsin, I have some other states I'm interested in too) and already (just a few weeks later) surprisingly few people are present in the state category who need to be moved down -- the majority of the additions I'm making are articles that had no origin cat whatsoever. Anyway, they are proving useful and used! --Dhartung | Talk 12:07, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

I reverted one of your edits and feel I should explain why
You have made many substantial and worthwhile edits to some of the pages I created or was a major contributor. On the Dow Finsterwald page, I reverted your Category: Fort Worthian edit. Dow Sr. was born and raised in Athens, Ohio and currently lives in Colorado Springs in the summer and Florida in the winter. It is his son, Dow Jr., who is a Fort Worthian. Welcome!
Hi, and welcome to the Biography WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of biographies.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- The project has a monthly newsletter; it will normally be delivered as a link, but several other formats are available.
There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:
- Starting some new articles? Our article structure tips outlines some things to include.
- Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every biography article in Wikipedia.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! plange 15:23, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Hugh Buchanan
I cannot find an article on Hugh Buchanan, but Argyleshire is an archaic spelling of Argyllshire, the anglified version of Argyll (abolished 1975), which is now (mostly) part of Argyll and Bute.
If you are doing an article on this chap, you should probably put him in Category:Natives of Argyll and Bute. Hope that is of assistance. PS. there is a very famous street in Glasgow called Argyle Street which uses the old spelling. See Argyle socks too! See Argyle. --Mais oui! 22:30, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Re: Possible weaknesses of article
Hi Bill, You commented on an article I was working on around the tenth of this month. I have it done now, and before I post it, I was hoping you would have a moment to look it over. The article is located Here. Thanks in advance. Somnabot 21:12, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

- Sorry about the delay there. The article looks fine. The only objection I can imagine is that it might be a bit long for a state legislator, and that others might see it as being a piece of propoganda. But that accusation gets levelled at all articles about sitting politicans, so I wouldn't necessarily pay any attention to it. I wish any of the pathetic little stubs I've put together on politicians were as good as this. Badbilltucker 23:51, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you Bill, I really appreciate the time you spent on this. I noted that User:Chicheley removed the template from the category. The template itself said that it was never to be removed. I have no way of knowing, and am on that basis asking whether this user may have acted against the explicit guidelines of the template and whether it should be restored. Badbilltucker 17:08, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- You should speak to the person about it, ask Chicheley why they removed the template and if they have a problem with putting it back on if you think it should. talk to JD wants e-mail 17:23, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry if I apparently phrased that statement poorly. I should note that I was NOT the one who put the template there, by the way. Am I to assume that the banner was not, as it were, "officially" placed there? That was the assumption I was operating on and the reason behind the question in the first place. Badbilltucker 17:41, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- I wouldn't think it were officially placed there, I'm guessing it just was put there as a notice so that people viewing the category would know that it needs to be sorted out. talk to JD wants e-mail 17:46, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Work via WikiProjects
Hi Bad Bill, I just read your latest comments at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Council#Public_Relations. A lot of what you are proposing is already being done, albeit slowly, at Work via WikiProjects. You can see a typical posting and response at the Anglicanism project, and the resultant worklist here. Likewise the Cathlicism is generating their worklist via the bot. All of this information is then collected here and summarized here (this last one needs an update). Our main goal is to get lists of the best and most important articles from all WikiProjects, then try to put those all together for a CD, DVD or paper version of Wikipedia. The secondary goal is essentially the same as the new WP Council, to help projects (and notice boards) talk to each other and share ideas - and this has indeed happened. We have already contacted most of the projects that were listed on the main list about a year ago, this posting is in fact our "second round".
I was wondering if you might be interested in helping out with this project. We have only had a handful of people, typically only 2 or 3 active people at any time, and only one (me!) active right now. At the same time, this small project helped to promote the idea of article assessments and key articles, and was instrumental in arranging for Mathbot to work for the WikiProjects. So I think the time invested in this project has been extremely fruitful so far - and, quite frankly, exciting at times. We have also already laid the foundations for the inter-project discussions you were proposing. Would you be interested in working on this a bit? I'd really appreciate some help! Thanks, Walkerma 23:13, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for signing on! Regarding contacting individuals from inactive projects, I have in fact done that on one or two occasions, particularly with major subject areas. As for the WP Council, I think we should raise that issue with on the WP Council talk pages (I'm heading home soon, can't do this right now). The other main person likely to work on WVWP is Tito (User:Titoxd) and he is on the council too, so it won't upset anyone. If you're willing to do some of these contacts, we need to decide how to divvy up the list - in the past this has generally been along the lines of "I'll finish the sciences if you can do the arts ones". You follow up afterwards to check for responses and record the information. Is there a particular set of projects you'd be most interested in contacting? For many of the pages, I need to do a lot of work to set them up - it's very involved so I won't burden you with that part. Thanks again, this is a great help! Walkerma 21:31, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Wikiproject Council
Sorry for asking here, but when will we review wikiprojects? Or there will be any "peer review" for the projects or we just help them to improve? Thanks for the answer in advance. NCurse work 15:10, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for the long answer! Now I create a plan about how to help this Council and I'll make a request at the council's discussion page. I hope I can help. I have two ideas:
- I could fix and fulfill the list of wikiprojects related to science (or more specifically medicine, health)
- Maybe we could create a new page for inactive projects for those who would like to maintain one but can't find out how to find a project without active maintainer.
But I'll write these there too. NCurse work 16:00, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- You gave me power. :) Done... NCurse work 16:09, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
WPBio
Hi Bill. If you're tagging a talk page with WPBiography|living=yes, could you also add the article to Category:Living people if it's not in it already. If there's no date of birth, add Category:Date of birth missing, if there's no year of birth Category:Year of birth missing. On other hand, if they're dead but the article doesn't say when they died we have Category:Year of death missing.
This is work that humans can do much better than bots, so your help fixing these little issues when you find them would me much appreciated! Cheers. (No reply needed). --kingboyk 16:14, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

OK. I will remember that. I just remember reading in wikipedia somewhere that, so to prevent possiblity of lawsuits in this area, to list a person as living if the article does not have a reputable source indicating otherwise.

The article contains a stub template. You classified it as a start article. There might be a conflict here, but I don't know which is right. Just thought you might like to know. Badbilltucker 15:02, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- Please take a look at this page for the assessment criteria : Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Assessment. I have given Start-class because this article cites its references, has a picture and has somewhat a format to grow, not like usual stubs. Lincher 15:07, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- I'll remove the stub template from the article itself, then. Thanks for the quick response. Badbilltucker 15:09, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
Hey! Very nice work on the list! You might want to take a look at what's currently happening with the directory, though; the latest idea seems to be alphabetical listing within broad subject areas, which may remove the need for a second alphabetical list.
I just wanted to let you know so you can avoid spending too much time turning the list into charts in case it doesn't get used later on. :-) Kirill Lokshin 17:28, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Well if the current directory isn't finnished, I don't see why the previous List of Wikiprojects was prematurely turned into a redirect. Thanks For The Tips!
Heya, first thanks for stepping in for my project in the discussion page, and I'm also really grateful for giving me some advice on how to improve it! I'll just have to wait and see whether it's kept or not, but if it's voted to be given a chance I'll probably first go to Emo_Music wiki discussion page and add the banner there, plus I'll search the net for sources (like band members interviews) to comply with NPOV policy. If it's okay with you I'll have more questions I'd like to ask once I know the result of the project discussion. I think I've got the way I should edit the template, thanks again!

WikiProject Germany
I noticed you just created a proposal for a WikiProject about Germany. This idea had actually been floating aroung on WP:GSWN, but it was decided that the scope was too wide and that we would not be able to organize such a large number of articles. We had also considered creating a project just about the German Democratic Republic. User:Kusma was going to draft a proposal but has not done so yet.
I'm actually not sure, I think it would be impossible to organize all articles related to Germany although we would need to find a rather large number of interested editors. I would probably be interested in contributing to this project and will try to inform editors, of whom I know that they are active on WP:GSWN or contribute Germany-related articles.
Thanx.
--CarabinieriTTaallkk 17:40, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- It wasn't exactly decided that the scope was too wide. It's just that I chickened out and wanted to try a smaller project first because I was afraid this could become a monumental failure if not planned and organized well (certainly needs a lot of manpower). A WikiProject Germany has been on my wishlist for a while, but it is probably an epic task (and I don't want to be its main organizer, I have enough to do with Portal:Germany). Anyway, some resources you might want to use for your draft can be found here. Maybe you can also use this list of Germany-related Featured Articles (and former FAs that could be brought up again). If you are interested, my GDR (sub-?)project draft can be found here. Kusma (討論) 18:17, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, User:Carabinieri has brought to my attention that you are starting a Germany project. This sounds really interesting and I think I'd definetely have a lot to contribute. Please keep me updated and let me know what the status is so far, as well as anything you need help with. (Patrick 04:47, 10 October 2006 (UTC))
I saw your help tag on this article. Since the article is reposted content that was deleted in accordance with an XfD process, I've tagged it for speedy deletion (per WP:CSD#G4. -- Merope Talk 21:30, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- I removed Lewis Henry Morgan from Aurora, Erie County, New York. He was born in the other Aurora in NY. You may want to edit that article instead. Stepp-Wulf 00:34, 6 October 2006 (UTC).
Userbox Template Source
You helped me with a banner for a project page, do you know what template is used to make this box?

I already assigned a code for a userbox I want to use, but I couldn't add colors or manage the width/alignment of the template correctly:

BTW, did you get my reply via e-mail? Iceness 18:13, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks!! If you have a look at the bottom of the project page - I've added the Userbox paragraph which uses a template, and I've also made a wiki template for the banner - both seem to work pretty well. I should be ashamed of myself for not figuring the source-thing, being a webdesigner and all. Again thanks for your time explaining codes - it was really helpful. On Fair Use - I've made a sub-article withing my project /WikiProject_Emo/Project_Icon , I hope it would help - if not can I just take a picture myself and use it? Since I'd be the owner of the copyright in that case.
On the email, I thought it was you who left me a comment via my winterless-iceness.com website . And no worries about that Avril incident, cheers! Iceness 19:35, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Probability
I see you removed the inactive template from Wikipedia:WikiProject Probability with recent activity. On the main project page and the talk page there have been no significant edits this year. No one has responded to queries about inactivity. From this I conclude the project is really inactive. Do you have any reason to assume otherwise, or are you thinking of restarting the project. --Salix alba (talk) 18:48, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Uyghur Wikiproject
Thanks for your comments. I would love to contribute on Uyghur-related topics, but my knowledge of them is pretty weak, so I doubt I'd get anything done. Sorry about that. Mar de Sin Talk to me! 15:40, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi,
Thank you for doing so much house-cleaning on derelict Wiki-projects; please do remember, though, to list under the proper Wikipedia day when nominating them. If the day doesn't exist yet, just make it by copy-and-pasting an existing header. As you know, Wikipedia operates under UTC time, meaning a new wiki-day begins at 8 PM EDT in the US. Best wishes, Xoloz 16:15, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
Wiki Project On Avril
Ha, thanks! I've messaged the founder on this, so cheers for the heads up. Not sure if some radical members of wiki police wouldn't decide to shut it down for the sake of it, but hopefully not. BTW I did quite alot of updates on my own project today, so I guess it counts as an 'activity'. No new participants yet though, but I'll blame it all on Monday =] . Thanks again for the link. Thanks. In my free time I shall start and abandon WikiProjects just to keep you busy. Yomanganitalk 23:03, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
Thank You
Thank you for pointing out to me that it was merely my page up for deletion, for I was unsure of the difference between the two propositions. And thank you for defending me on the deletion page. I realize I may have been abusing my page, but I will urge myself and others to refrain from continuing that behavior. Sporks.Are.Loverly 01:07, 13 October 2006 (UTC)Sporks.Are.Loverly
Welcome!
Hi, and welcome to the Biography WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of biographies.
We look forward to seeing you around! plange 04:08, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
Wikiproject Germany
Not only biographies but I have contributed to various articles about science and engineering related to Germany. Would be nice to share opinon/ideas on some sort of joint effort. Could also help translate articles from German wikipedia too IrfanAli (talk) 15:59, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
Stub templates
No, those templates are all fine. I just think it's important to mention that, because it's always a mess for the Stub Sorting project when templates or categories are created, which were not proposed first. Stub types only make sense if there are at lease aroung 60 stubs of that type and when editors create templates without proposing them first they generally do not reach this figure.--CarabinieriTTaallkk 18:30, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
No you can delete this project. I'll join WP:SHARKS and help with my selected articles via that project. Unisouth 19:40, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
