Deletion discussion about The Hobbit (1985 film)
Hello, Delusionalinsanity,
I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether The Hobbit (1985 film) should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Hobbit (1985 film) .
If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Explanation of WP:Notability (1985 Hobbit)
Greetings, the term WP:Notability has a specific technical meeting on Wikipedia: it doesn't literally mean "important", it means "something where we can prove that somebody bothered to write about it". That is, if there's a band playing in Chicago and nobody writes about them except on their MySpace page and some blogs, they're not WP:Notable. However, let's say the Chicago Tribune does a writeup on their rising career, they get profiled in Spin magazine, etc., now they meet WP:N.
So for this Hobbit film, to keep the article (which I think would be cool, the film sounds interesting), you need to demonstrate that some reputable (not blog or forum) media or academic source wrote "hey, here's this interesting Soviet version of The Hobbit, here's some interesting stuff about it..."
Does that help clear up the issue? MatthewVanitas (talk) 22:11, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you Matthew Vanitas. Yes, that clears the issue up. Is there a time period within which things can be found out? I could ask around about it. I'm sure such event couldn't escape from press. Delusionalinsanity (talk) 22:20, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- (don't forget to indent by adding one more colon than the person before you, makes the flow clearer)
- There isn't a hard-and-fast deadline; there are moderators who go through all the AFD debates one by one, and if it looks like a quorum of folks weighted in, the mod judges the consensus (not a vote, it's based on who has the more solid argument) and makes a decision. If the article gets deleted, make sure it either gets moved to your Sandbox, or if that doesn't happen contact the deleting mod and ask he WP:Userify the article (rescue it to your personal drafting space so you can work on it at leisure).
- This film certainly should be notable, it's just a matter of finding the materials. In fairness, if they can't be found the article does have to be removed, but even if it's removed this go-'round, it's worth checking around to eventually find the citations to document it properly. Also, if it gets saved, there are ways we can do a screen-capture of the film and add just one photo (for legal/licensing reasons) to illustrate the article, which would be cool. Now I just have to go home and watch some of this on YouTube! MatthewVanitas (talk) 22:47, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
