- Stefan this picture was paid for by myself as part of a series of profile shots I had done for my website. The photographer was Jes Swallow, he was paid for his work, and I have sent an email to Wiki affirming my ownership of this image. The image can also been found on my SoundCloud page and website page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DJStereolove (talk • contribs) 00:22, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- It is important that an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org contain an appropriate permission from the "copyright holder", not just the person in physical possession of the image. Depending on the laws of your country, unless you have an agreement transferring copyright to you, it may be that the professional photographer retains the copyright, even though you paid him for the finished product. --B (talk) 00:40, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Hello B, Yes I did what you have suggested prior to your posting, I sent an email to the email address permissions-en@wikimedia.org, and I have made mention of that in the posting by Stefan2. I do not require a release from my photographer as he was paid for his work by myself, and our agreement is that all the pictures are free for me to use as I see fit, without any limitations on their use. The photographer is Jes Swallow and he can be found on the Flickr under the user name Mugley. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DJStereolove (talk • contribs) 01:05, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear stefan2, you have to look again and compare the two image, one I have designed with higher resolution on the 7th of April 2013 and Uploaded into wiki, the other image you, stefan2 referencing is clearly different with its low resolution and have been probably designed by that website you linked to, also, if I design the coat of the arms of a X with higher resolution are you going to come up with such accusation? You can chech here too [2], this image have been duplicated and redisigned and its widely all over the place, so the one I have desinged can not be subject to the copyright you suggesting. Thank you Abdirisak (talk) 14:35, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- The image was posted to the other website more than a week before it was posted here. More likely, both images were stolen from a third place. --Stefan2 (talk) 15:08, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- WOW, STOLEN! So now you accusing me that I stolen this drawing from somewhere? I FOUND THAT WORD OFFENSIVE, VERY OFFENSIVE INDEED. Abdirisak (talk) 15:30, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Is this coat of arms of your own original design? Did you create the artwork from scratch and not derive it from anyone else's work? If not, you didn't make it and you don't own the copyright. Merely tracing the artwork of another does not make your own any more than photocopying a book would make it your own. Now, the question needs to be answered - is the underlying coat of arms public domain? --B (talk) 22:44, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- WOW, STOLEN! So now you accusing me that I stolen this drawing from somewhere? I FOUND THAT WORD OFFENSIVE, VERY OFFENSIVE INDEED. Abdirisak (talk) 15:30, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- What are you on about B? read it again what I have written above before you jump into misplaced questions, certainly I did not claim THAT I OWN the originality of the artworks, I made it with higher resolution, the regional emblem is widely on the Public Domain, but if editors like you are making meal of it then be it. Abdirisak (talk) 09:33, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Calm down. The purpose of this exercise is not to put you through the inquisition - it is to accurately assess the status of the image. A lot of people incorrectly believe that copying or slightly modifying the work of someone else makes them the copyright holder. Is the COA public domain by virtue of being really, really old and no longer subject to copyright protection? Or is it an original work of someone in Somalia, which, according to stefan2's template has no copyright relations with the US? If either of those is the case, that's fine - it just needs to be adequately explained. --B (talk) 12:07, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- What part of this is a sculpture? I'm guessing it's the guy who looks like he's taking a leak? Is it actually a "sculpture" or is it clothing on a manikin? If the latter, then I wouldn't think that would be copyrightable as it is utilitarian (you can take a photo of clothes, you can take a photo of a person wearing clothes, you can take a photo of an inanimate object wearing clothes). In any event, I'm guessing/assuming that the guy carrying a lamp isn't a sculpture and it's just a guy carrying a lamp? If so, an uncropped photo is not useful for any encyclopedic purpose. --B (talk) 22:37, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Hi Eatgreens2, is there somewhere on the Flickr page that he identifies as the artist? Or somewhere on an official website for the work they he identifies the Flickr page as his own? Linking to that statement from the image description pages should be fine. Obviously, it's not a problem for the artist to make a derivative of his own work ... we just had no readily apparent way of knowing that this was the case. The image description pages should clearly spell out that the photographer and the person who made the sculptures are the same person. Also, it would be helpful if the description pages clearly spell out what I am looking at. (In ,other words, what is the medium of the art? Wood sculptures? Clothing on manikins?). And is the guy walking by with a lamp part of the artwork or is he just some guy walking by with a lamp? (The latter questions have nothing to do with licensing - it's just helpful for the image description page to convey necessary information to help the reader understand the image.) --B (talk) 12:16, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

At http://www.flickr.com/photos/glazedparadise you'll now see the artist's name listed as the account. At http://xmarkjenkinsx.com/hi-res.html you'll find the link to this flickr page. - At the bottom of the article Mark Jenkins, it says that the artist's home page is http://xmarkjenkinsx.com/ but and the infobox it says http://www.glazedparadise.com/ which redirects to the same website. The page http://xmarkjenkinsx.com/hi-res.html links to the Flickr account, so the Flickr account appears to belong to the artist. Assuming that the claims in the Wikipedia article about the website belonging to the artist are correct, it should be possible to keep all of these images. --Stefan2 (talk) 22:41, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Do you speak Indonesian or are you going off of Google translate? They have a HUGE list of images from that site that need to be cleaned out if the Google translation is accurate. --B (talk) 01:25, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm speak Malay but I also understand Indonesian. I used google translate to translate it from Indonesian into English because I'm not fluent in English and can't speak English correctly.--法尔汉 Aplikasi 01:35, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Hi Aplikasi. I will try to use simple English. Please read http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Resolution:Licensing_policy/id . (The policy is also available in other languages.) Wikipedia only uses images that are public domain or have a license like the GFDL or Creative Commons. We do not allow images that are "non-commercial" or "Wikipedia-only" permissions. I do not understand Indonesian - I am using Google translate to read the message on the Indonesian Wikipedia. The Indonesian site seems to say that permission was granted only for Wikipedia to use these images. Those are not allowed and need to be deleted. I hope this is clear and helps you understand the issue. Please feel free to ask if I can help explain anything. --B (talk) 01:47, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- This is a logo, Threshold of originality concern. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 21:07, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Probably copyrighted, but can't we just delete it as a logo for a company for which we don't have an article and thus don't need? --B (talk) 22:48, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete If it is a logo which is obviously a copyright violation and obviously doesn't qualify for fair use (for example because the company doesn't have an article), then I think that {{db-f9}} is better. PUF may be OK if the logo has a chance of passing WP:NFCC (which is often the case if the company has an article). --Stefan2 (talk) 23:30, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- I'm skeptical that a 1920's image is the uploaders own work. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 21:13, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Also, we don't know whether it is a published image or not, so we can't just slap {{PD-US-1923-abroad}} on it. --Stefan2 (talk) 23:31, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- It could be both if the uploader owns that website, but I think that we need OTRS to confirm that. --Stefan2 (talk) 23:32, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
