Mark Bryan Wyland (born October 27, 1946 in Escondido, California) is a U.S. Republican politician from the state of California, who represents the 38th District in the California State Senate.

Biography
Wyland grew up in Escondido, California, where he co-owned a family business. Wyland has a BA in international relations from Pomona College and an MA in political science from Columbia University. After briefly working for the city of New York, he returned to Escondido and began working at Pine Tree Lumber Company, a lumber and building materials supplier where he became a co-owner. The company has since been sold. Before his election to the California State Assembly, Wyland served on the Escondido Union School District Board from 1997 until his election to the State Assembly in 2000.
Wyland was first elected in 2000 to represent the 74th Assembly District, which includes Vista, Carlsbad, Escondido, Encinitas, and San Marcos, all in San Diego County, California. Wyland was the Whip for the Republican Caucus. He was reelected in 2002 and 2004.
In 2006, Wyland was elected to the California State Senate, representing the 38th Senate District. Wyland became Assistant Republican Leader in 2008.
Senator Wyland serves on seven committees. Despite being a newly elected member from the minority party, he is the Chair of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee. He is also Vice-Chair of both the Senate Education Committee and the Senate Labor & Industrial Relations Committee. He is a member of the Senate Appropriations, Budget, Governmental Organization, and Health Committees.
Senator Wyland also serves on the Board of Trustees of Pomona College, his alma mater.
38th Senate District
Senate District 38 is composed of portions of Orange County and San Diego County.
North San Diego County - stretches along Interstate 5 from the horse track of Del Mar to the Marine Corps base at Camp Pendleton. Additional San Diego County cities include Carlsbad, Encinitas, Escondido, Oceanside, San Marcos, Solana Beach, Fairbanks Ranch, Rancho Santa Fe, Hidden Meadows, Bonsall and Vista.
South Orange County - cities include San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano.
