Actually........
Come to think of it, I have Phoenix (constellation) up at WP:GAN. I think I have the comprehensiveness more or less right, but I find these constellation articles tricky to get the prose to be more engaging. Given you are (a) interested in engaging prose, and (b) happy to be quite critical, then I think it'd be good for you to take a look at it if you have the time and inclination. WP:FOUR RFC
There are two WP:RFCs at WP:FOUR. The first is to conflate issues so as to keep people from expressing meaningful opinions. The second, by me, is claimed to be less than neutral by proponents of the first. Please look at the second one, which I think is much better.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 06:34, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

The Age source for "Goodbyeee"
Hi, I know that you added a source to the "Goodbyeee" article from The Age, and the topic has been raised in the FA nom of whether the American spelling "favorite" is correctly quoted. I find this unlikely as I believe the British spelling is used in Australia as well. I would appreciate it if you could help clear this matter up as I don't have access to this source. Sea FAC
Thank you for the work you have put into trimming various bits of the "Humans and the sea" section, and for adding the final quote to round the article off. Since the review started we have made great efforts to try to please a number of reviewers with differing views by adding, removing, explaining and altering the article. I don't think you have stated what you think of the article as a whole and whether you believe it reaches the FA criteria. As things stand, I am somewhat doubtful whether it will ultimately be successful. Three users have given their support, but they are not the ones who have been most involved in pointing out its deficiencies and suggesting improvements. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:01, 23 September 2013 (UTC)
- I'm continuing to engage there, but haven't done an end to end read through, and am watching the improvements in response to Snowman's comments (many of which I agreed with, such as regarding carbon cycle), despite our disagreement on some points. Will stick around and may express a view down the track (accepting that the track may be somewhat short :-)) hamiltonstone (talk) 01:30, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
If you have time.....
Triangulum passed GA and I am tinkering with it a bit - if you had a few seconds to point out the most monotonous bits and help examine the prose for engagingness to nonastronomers, that would be great :) Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 18:19, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

- Thanks for that. It does seem that there was an issue with mistakes. It is a struggle for reviewers on the English WP assessing articles with a significant range of non-English language sources (and offline as well). On a similar theme... Just a quick note to congratulate you on the promotion of Constance Stokes to FA status recently. If you would like to see this (or any other FA you may have helped to write) appear as "Today's featured article" soon, please nominate it at the requests page; if you'd like to see an FA on a particular date in the next year or so, please add it to the "pending" list. In the absence of a request, the article may end up being picked at any time (although with 1,336 articles in Category:Featured articles that have not appeared on the main page at present, there's no telling how long – or short! – the wait might be). Redback spider nominated at FAC
This FAC was not as well prepared by me and 99of9 as it should have been, and has been open a long time - Given you've been good at examining prose for engaging-ness and are probably a lay-reader when it comes to spiders, I wondered if you could have a look at this article - we do have a bit of a dilemma on how deeply to go into treatment and antivenom and how much could be left to daughter articles (latrodectism and antivenom). Snowmanradio found alot of issues which I think we've just about all sorted, but a complete outside set of eyes would be good - and brutal honesty appreciated...cheers, Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 20:04, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

Perseus (constellation) Comment
Turns out the childrens' book author (Staal) actually translated a seminal work by Schlegel on chinese constellations, which I have borrowed from UNSW library. My French is terrible and rudimentary at best, still the Schlegel book is full of maps and it is easy to figure out the prose. Anyway, worked on this, added some other facts to link the prose from one topic to the next better, and have renominated at FAC. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 02:25, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
GAN December 2013 Backlog Drive
Hello! A GAN Backlog Drive will begin in less than 4 days! In past Backlog Drives, the goal was to reduce the backlog of Good article nominations. In the upcoming drive, another goal will be added - raising as much money as we can for the Wikimedia Foundation. How will this work? Well, its pretty simple. Any user interested in donating can submit a pledge at the Backlog Drive page (linked above). The pledge should mention the amount of money the user is willing to donate per review. For example, if a user pledges 5 cents per review and 100 nominations are reviewed, the total donation amount is $5.00. At the time this message was sent out, two users have submitted pledges for a total of 8 cents per review. All pledges, no matter how much money, are greatly appreciated. Also, in no way is this saying you must make a pledge. |

Feedback on amph FA
Hey Hamiltonstone,
I want to thank you again for giving your feedback on the amphetamine FAC. Since I suspect the nomination is nearing a close, I was wondering if you had any other suggestions/feedback, or, if not, were willing to take a concrete stance (e.g., oppose/support) on the nomination. Sorry for bothering you with this if you're busy!
Best regards, Seppi333 (Insert 2¢) 19:58, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the additional feedback!
- Btw, I had a question about improving accessability of the pharmacodynamics section. Do you think that it'd be understandable to an average reader if I made a 2nd image that shows what this neuron would look like without amphetamine? Beyond comparison diagrams, I'm out of ideas on how to simplify it. Seppi333 (Insert 2¢) 06:14, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think the image support is the issue, it is a question of whether text as technical as this is appropriate to the encyclopedia article. I have an open mind on the issue, and would really like others to give their input. I suggest you ask the views of a couple of other FAC review regulars like Wehwalt, or ask one of the delegates to give their view (but don't ask the delegate who closed your last one - they will probably prefer to remain uninvolved, so they are seen as impartial when they review it next time...). Sorry I can't be more help, hamiltonstone (talk) 00:36, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

Patrick Corrigan
Dear Hamiltonstone, thank you very much for your comments. As this is my first article it is very encouraging. I presume your note about the potential conflict of interest relates to the book? I'm curious about the comment "looks as though you have addressed this through the 'article for creation' request". Is there another way? I assumed this was the only process to create/publish an article. To me, the reviewing process seems opaque. Thank you for all the other pointers and tips. Best regards Jane Raffan (talk) 21:04, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Jane, sorry for the delay. Yes my COI comment relates to the book, but I also thought you might have a coi if you were paid by Corrigan (that isn't a question so you don't need to respond). Articles can be created directly, without going through the afc request process. But you've avoided any issue with that by taking the approach you have. Any questions, feel free to ask - though i can take a while to respond sometimes! Regards, hamiltonstone (talk) 11:13, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
Making more constellations engaging
To finish off the four Southern Birds, I have buffed Grus (constellation) for GAN, while Tucana is sitting at FAC (though Thopha saccata is attracting much less attention) - if you have any time a bit of spit'n'boot polish to make the prose as nice as possible is always appreciated :) Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 23:47, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive
It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:
- This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Wikipedia Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively.
- Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
- The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
- An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.
Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.
More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the the drive page. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page.
I look forward to your participation and hope that because of it, some day the backlog will be gone!

Are you a Scottish Hamilton, an Irish Hamilton or an Australian Hamilton? In other words, am I talking to a close relative, or probably not? Amandajm (talk) 11:03, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- That question is more complicated than you think. All three, and none. Scottish by birth, Australian by upbringing and residence, Irish of heritage in patches, but as to the origin of the Hamilton, well, Kentish, to the best of my knowledge, though I well know that may seem unlikely. Ramsgate, to be precise. hamiltonstone (talk) 11:27, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- We are married into Scottish Hamiltons, who migrated to Australia several generations ago.
- Maybe the Australian Dictionary of Biography would be the way to go. I haven't got enough for a book. If I don't write it down, it will be lost, I suppose. They are only snippets. I hesitate to state that Myra invented the searchlight. It seems to have been more like a laser. According to my aunt Lavie, who was not an entirely reliable source, she shone it on the cat, and the cat died as a result.
- The Mary Gilmore story came from a much more reliable source, my other grandmother. The story goes that Myra was in the habit of listening to a radio broadcast by Leadbeater, a proponent of Theosophy. On this particular day Mary Gilmore had come to lunch and was arguing the point with Myra. Gilmore said "Well, if this man presumes to have all the answers, then let him answer this.... " and posed several difficult questions. The broadcast was turned on and he answered Gilmore's questions exactly as if he had the script. Gilmore took her hat and stormed out. That is how the story goes. Amandajm (talk) 02:21, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

At a loss....
to explain lack of interest at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Thopha saccata/archive1. I recognise it's esoteric but wonder about the engagingness of the prose. Any comments welcome at Wikipedia:Peer review/Thopha saccata/archive1 Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 11:52, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hm, that would have been disappointing. I had a glance through. I have read better leads - it peters out a bit in that last sentence, but nothing leaps out at me particularly as bad. Will try and take a look when i have more time - if i can work out when that will be! hamiltonstone (talk) 11:23, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

- I do not know whether the text at the page you cite is a copyright violation or not (that is, copied from elsewhere), but in any case it has no references, so a translation of it would not be acceptable at English wikipedia. I have replied further at your talk page. Regards, hamiltonstone (talk) 22:32, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

Brandis edits
Hi there,
How about this addition, and deletion of the previous Bigotry quote.
When asked by Senator Nova Peris in Australian Parliment on March 24 2014, "Won't removing section 18C facilitate vilification by bigots?”, Brandis claimed “People do have a right to be bigots, you know. In a free country, people do have rights to say things that other people find offensive, insulting or bigoted. ” Brandis went on to accuse Senator Wong of bigotry.[1] Brandis' bigotry comment was followed by intense media scrutiny.[2][3] Chazwazla (talk) 04:53, 27 March 2014 (UTC)

Thopha saccata redux

Fresh Eyes requested
Hello, I was wondering if you would mind taking a look at ongoing peer review on the WINC (AM) article. The article was promoted to GA status on April 10 and this is the PR prior to going to FAC.
The reviewer on the article, User:Finetooth, doesn't know much about radio stations and User:Casliber (the GA reviewer) says it looks a little "rough" still. Both agree a third set of eyes would be helpful. Thanks in advance...Neutralhomer • Talk • 00:36, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
- As it happens I just did that! Saw Cas's suggestion. I agree it's a bit rough. Tackle the stuff I've raised, then let me know and I'll take another look. hamiltonstone (talk) 01:07, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
