@Anders Feder: what's your opinion about this discussion? Mhhossein (talk) 15:08, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
The Reuters story linked above[1] seems reliable enough. It has actually won an award from the Overseas Press Club.[2]--Anders Feder (talk) 04:45, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
Reliability of article by Reuter is not questioned here. Follow the related RFC discussion. Mhhossein (talk) 11:30, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
In that case we should use it as a source in the article.Anders Feder (talk) 11:34, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
Reuters does not mention "Net Worth". Mhhossein (talk) 12:47, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
Due to the unreliable sources used, I removed khamenei and his son from the list. Mhhossein (talk) 07:10, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
Hi, I have read this discussion and I don't see ANY mention of the fact that MSN is NOT a reliable source. IBTimes itself (which is a RS) reports: "Khamenei’s true wealth is estimated to be immense, perhaps in the territory of tens of billions of dollars." Thirdly, you have also previously removed this source which says: "The ayatollah likes to cultivate an image of austerity but receives major commissions from the Iranian oil and arms industries and there have been regular claims that he and his son have amassed a fortune running into billions of dollars." You can't just Pick and choose.
However, an important issue was missed in the Reuters report which is ‘Al Khums’ or the Fifth of excess income paid as a form of Zakat (alms-giving), which is usually reserved for Aal-Al-Bayt, Prophet Mohammad’s Household (PBUH). The black turban of Khamenei signifies that he belongs to Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib and Fatima’s household and being Al Wali Al Faqeeh (guardian of Islamic jurists with full control of the society’s affairs) gives him the majority share of the Fifth, as was the case with Ayatollah Khomeini. The amount is worth hundreds of millions of dollars accrued annually and added to Setad’s revenues.
Given that the Supreme Leader has been in power for many years now, and according to this calculation he must be worth billions for the very least. IMO, having a "high net worth" is NOT illegal or immoral by itself.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.125.116.243 (talk • contribs)
First of all please sign your comment. Secondly, there's nothing as stable! we'd better consider the reliable sources. Ignoring the question why you prefer to edit anonymously, please consider that the source which you are mentioning here is disputed and per WP:ONUS, finding the consensus for the edit is incumbent on the editor who wishes to add the material. Btw, please stop edit warring! Good luck.Mhhossein (talk) 08:19, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
First, I can edit "anonymously". If you have a problem with that, there is nothing I can do to help you with. Now, please answer the issues as described above about the sources (and most importantly avoid attacks). I have provided three reliable sources. So far, you have not responded to ANY of them *at all*. Again, one MSN source says "Wealth: $30 billion". Regrading editor's Anders' proposal: I agree that sources can be mentioned as references even if there is no specific amount in them.69.125.116.243 (talk)
The MSN source is not that great, since it is just an image caption. I propose mentioning the Reuters info in the lede instead of including a figure in the list.--Anders Feder (talk) 09:31, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
May be. What about the IBTimes sources' quote that gives "tens of billions of dollars" for net worth? Besides, it would be helpful if someone could provide a source for the Pahlavi era and also Rafsanjani. Sabet, who was a prominent industrialist during the time of the Shah (amongst others), should also be listed IMO (only if a reliable source can be provided). 69.125.116.243 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 10:08, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
Pinging the anonymous IP!: 1-You presented no reliable source. 2- Don't need to shout 'ANY', I can hear 'any', too. 3- You would understand that I responded to your queries, if you had read them carefully. 4- Why did you change the title of this discussion? Please open new topics if you'd like to start different discussions. 5- Certainly, I've got no problem with your identity. Mhhossein (talk) 11:34, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
I agree that leaving him out seems disingenuous - Khamenei almost certainly has plenty of wealth, and the only reason there are not good sources for it is his own heavy-handed suppression of the country's media. Perhaps the information from the Reuters report could be mentioned above the list.--Anders Feder (talk) 08:52, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
What amount should be in the list exactly in your view? According to what source(s)? Should it mention "$30 billion" (as in MSN source) or "tens of billions of dollars" as reported by IBTimes itself - or yet "billions of dollars" as reported by the Telegraph (UK)? I suggest using the Reuters information in the lead section only. 69.125.116.243 (talk) 10:39, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
I think a note such as this should suffice. A figure is not needed in the list when we only have poor/imprecise sources.--Anders Feder (talk) 19:08, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
IBTimes is just saying Khamenei is in "control" of some firms. The firms are not under his name and he is not a share holder. I do not find such inclusions encyclopedic.Kazemita1 (talk) 10:57, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
Whether the firms are under his name is irrelevant since Iran is not governed by rule of law anyway; the rulers can use whatever name they want on the company, and still own it in the economic sense. Per the "Asset" article, "an asset is a resource controlled by the entity as a result of past events and from which future economic benefits are expected to flow to the entity".--Anders Feder (talk) 18:32, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
Somebody has removed all the references to reliable sources in the lead section. 69.125.116.243 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 09:19, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
Removing refs with no use
Some of the references were merely pasted there in the lead, i.e they were not supporting any thing. I removed them. Mhhossein (talk) 05:37, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
