Files for discussion (FfD) is for listing images and other media files which are unneeded or have non-free content usage concerns. Files that have been listed here for more than 7 days are eligible for either deletion or removal from pages if either a consensus to do so has been reached or no objections to deletion or removal have been raised. To quote the non-free content criteria, "it is the duty of users seeking to include or retain content to provide a valid rationale; those seeking to remove or delete it are not required to show that one cannot be created." For undeletion requests, first contact the administrator who deleted the file. If you are unable to resolve the issue with that administrator, the matter should be brought to deletion review. If you have questions if something should be deleted, consider asking at Media Copyright Questions. |

Instructions for listing files for discussion To list a file:
State the reasons why the file should be deleted, removed, or altered. Also, state what specific action should be taken, preferably in bold text; this allows discussion participants and closers to better understand the purpose of the nomination. Some examples of nomination statements include:
Some common reasons for deletion or removal from pages are:
These are not the only "valid" reasons to discuss a file. Any properly explained reason can be used. The above list comprises the most common and uncontroversial ones. Since abbreviated deletion reasons will not be familiar to most Wikipedians, especially newbies, please consider using full words. A few extra keystrokes now can save paragraphs of explanation to a panicked uploader wondering what's wrong with their image. If you remove a file from an article, list the article from which you removed it so there can be community review of whether the file should be deleted. This is necessary because file pages do not remember the articles on which the file were previously used. |

Instructions for discussion participation
In responding to the deletion nomination, consider adding your post in the format
* '''View''' - Reasoning ... -- ~~~~
where "Delete", "Keep", "Comment", or something else may replace "View". In posting their reasoning, many editors use abbreviations and cite to the following:
- Wikipedia:NFCC#1 – Free equivalent is/is not available
- Wikipedia:NFCC#8 – Significance
- Wikipedia:Non-free content#Images 2 – Unacceptable image use
Remember that polling is not a substitute for discussion. Wikipedia's primary method of determining consensus is through editing and discussion, not voting. Although editors occasionally use straw polls in an attempt to test for consensus, polls or surveys sometimes impede rather than assist discussion. They should be used with caution, and are no more binding than any other consensus decision.
Also remember that if you believe that an image is potentially useful for other projects and should be moved to Wikimedia Commons, in lieu of responding '''Move to Commons'''
, you can move it there yourself. See Wikipedia:Moving files to the Commons for instructions.

User:Stifle User talk:Stifle earlier tagged the article for dated speedy deletion under CSD F7, with the following reasons:
- Criterion 3a, because multiple non-free images are being used when one would suffice
- Criterion 8, because the image does not significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would not be detrimental to that understanding.
Another user declined the dated speedy deletion and User:Stifle attempted to use regular speedy deletion. As that is inappropriate, I feel the best choice is to take to FfD to resolve the dispute. Safiel (talk) 01:02, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
- Delete. Fails WP:NFCC items 3a and 8, multiple album covers on one article used strictly for decoration with no critical commentary. Stifle (talk) 10:37, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
- Keep. Cover was previously used for standard edition pressings of the album, thus it allows readers to visually identify the album the article is about. Chase (talk | contributions) 16:12, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

- File:Pećanac and Deva 20 October 1941.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Peacemaker67 ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
This file already exists on Commons as File:Kosta Pećanac, 20 October 1941.jpg, and the website it's sourced to claims it is in the public domain. Unless there is a reason to doubt the veracity of that statement, the local copy should be deleted as unncessary under WP:CSD#F8. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:46, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
- Keep The veracity of the PD claim of the Commons file has been questioned during the Wikiproject Military history A-Class review of the Pećanac Chetniks article. This is because there is no evidence that it has been published other than on the website in question, which clearly would bring the PD status into question in both Serbia and the US. I agree with the reviewer that the PD claim of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is questionable, so I have uploaded a local version with a NFR for use in the subject article. If anything, the Commons version should probably be nominated for deletion. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 23:49, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

- @Peacemaker67: is there an on-going process in relation to this? I'd like to see this either being actively discussed or indeed the Commons version being up for deletion for it make sense to support keeping this. – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 03:49, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

- What's the point in relisting this, Steel1943? It's obvious that we should just mirror the outcome on Commons, and then it doesn't really matter if this remains on an old log page until Commons decides the outcome. --Stefan2 (talk) 13:08, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
-
- @Stefan2: Peacemaker67 questioned the nominate file's ability to be public domain, as well as the related file on Commons being nominated for deletion. I, more or less, relisted this discussion for those reasons, as well as allowing the timing of this discussion's closing to possibly be synced with the close of the other discussion, especially considering that votes in the other discussion did not really start coming in until the discussion was already open for two weeks. That, and per WP:RELIST: A relisted discussion may be closed once consensus is determined without necessarily waiting a further seven days.". Steel1943 (talk) 13:23, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

The only difference between this logo and its Commons version on commons:File:ESC 1964 logo.png under the same title is the extra border around the local copy. Only question would be whether this logo is actually OK for Commons. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 20:11, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
- There is no information about logos at c:COM:TOO#Switzerland, so the copyright status in the source country is unknown. --Stefan2 (talk) 13:09, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
- I did search the Swiss Federal Court records on logos, but all things I found were trademark related. Switzerland does require "individual character" for copyrightability, the SFC did rule that not all photographies of people satisfy that requirement but nothing on logos.Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:41, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
File:TV Zimbo old logo.png
- File:TV Zimbo old logo.png (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Valmir144 ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
This is a former logo for TV Zimbo. Contrary to the assertion in non-free use rationale for the file, the image is not being used as the primary means of identification as File:TV Zimbo logo.jpg is being used in the infobox. The previous logo is not the subject of any commentary in the article as is purely decorative. Whpq (talk) 20:31, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Logo is being used in the article on Televisão Pública de Angola, and the non-free use rationale assert that serves as the primary means of visual identification, but that purpose is actually being served by File:Televisão Pública de Angola.jpg. This the logo of this broadcaster's channels, and is not the primary subject of the article. Whpq (talk) 20:35, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

The local copy is shadowing commons:File:Internet Party Ukraine Logo.png which is marked as free due to PD-Ukraine. Unless there is an additional copyright in the US, the local copy should be deleted. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 21:49, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
- The template used on Commons only seems to cover government works, but this appears to be something created by a political party, so Commons seems to use the wrong copyright tag. Probably below the threshold of originality, though. --Stefan2 (talk) 13:11, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
- Worth noting that commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:FC Gazovik Hurtovina Logo.png did read that law as including non-government logos. Some subsequent discussion is here.Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:33, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hm. Since it's not a government work, I'd assume that the lex loci protectionis would make it copyrighted in the United States at least, and per WP:C and WP:NUSC, Wikipedia needs to follow United States copyright law. The fact that something is ineligible for copyright in the source country doesn't make it ineligible for copyright in the United States, per [1]. For government works, that tag could maybe be interpreted as a kind of 'PD-self', so the situation is less clear than for non-government works. --Stefan2 (talk) 00:09, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

File:Madonna Rebel Heart physical standard cover.png
- File:Madonna Rebel Heart physical standard cover.png (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Chasewc91 ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
I am nominating this file for deletion due to the below NFCC violations:
- Criterion 3a, because multiple non-free images are being used when one would suffice
- Criterion 8, because the image does not significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would not be detrimental to that understanding.
The image in question is not discussed in the article, neither received much notability form the third party media in place of the deluxe version used, which is critically and analytically discussed in the article. It is simply being used for decorative purposes. —IB [ Poke ] 22:21, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
- Keep. Use rationale clearly states that it provides visual identification allowing the reader to recognize the work and ensure they have come to the right article - this means it passes criterion 8. And let's put it another way: let's say a reader saw a copy of the standard version of the album in a store but not the deluxe version. They would see a completely different cover when they arrived at this album's article and likely be very confused. Chase (talk | contributions) 20:05, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
- Are we seriously here to upload non-free content to guide users? Non-free media should support the article content and increase reader's understanding of that content, not help them find out an album. The other cover present in the article is analyzed, so when our readers read that section, they see the supporting image in the infobox and understand "Oh, thats why there was controversy for the cover" or "Oh thats what the memes were..." etc. —IB [ Poke ] 19:59, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
- As the FUR clearly explains, the covers increase the reader's understanding of the article subject as they show the artwork the album was sold with, which also helps the reader ensure they came to the right article. This is standard practice with all articles for albums, films, and other forms of entertainment. Chase (talk | contributions) 19:27, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

File:Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp, Cover Art.jpg
- File:Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp, Cover Art.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by TahitiBlue ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
There are two book covers used in the article Nothing Lasts Forever (Thorp novel), the original and this, a cover of the reprint 33 years later. The original book cover is used in the infobox and this reprint book cover is used in the background section without any critical commentary about the cover. The reprint cover fails WP:NFCC#3a in that the original book cover already is used in the article for means of identification and fails WP:NFCC#8 because there is no commentary about the cover thereby doing nothing to increase the reader's understanding of the book and its exclusion is not detrimental to the understanding of the book. - File:25 anni int brigades.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Darwinek ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
Non-free poster art being used in International Brigades#Status after the war. No source is provided for the file so it's hard to verify its copyright status as required by WP:NFCC#10a or whether it has been previously published as required by WP:NFCC#4. In addition, the poster itself is not the subject of any sourced discussion at within the article so the context required by WP:NFCC#8 is lacking so its usage appears to be more decorative than not. File's description says the photo is from 1961, but I don't think that's old enough for {{PD-USonly}}, {{PD-Czech}} or another free license, but not sure. If this cannot be converted to a free license, then non-free usage does not comply with WP:NFCC and I suggest remove from the article. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:37, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

Each file has a non-free use rationale, but neither usage seems provide the context required by WP:NFCC#8. Neither file is being used in the main infobox of the article as their respective rationales claim, and neither file itself is the subject of any sourced commentary within the article per WP:NFC#cite note-2. Each version is only mentioned briefly as part of a list of cover versions in I Put a Spell on You#Covers and samples and understanding what little is written does not require that the reader actually see the cover art. I don't feel that the fact there are infoboxes for the songs is sufficient justification for their non-free use, unless these files were being used in stand-alone articles about each version. So, I suggest delete for each file. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:56, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

I do not believe that this image's presence in the article would significantly increase readers' understanding of the article topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding therefore failing WP:NFCCP #8. Uploader claims that it is being used to identify the subject of the article, the song, however we already have the cover art and a sound bite. Both of these items are also under fair use. The multiple fair use items on this page raises further issues with NFCCP #3a. Majora (talk) 03:46, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hi there! I'm the uploader of the file and I have to say that I strongly believe that the image really is important for the article. The screenshot is used in List of Alfred Hitchcock cameo appearances to show one of Hitchcock's cameo in his films. There is no critical commentary of the screenshot, it is simply one of his cameos, described in the list as "Sitting next to Cary Grant on the bus." The screenshot fails WP:NFCC#1 in that the since text "Sitting next to Cary Grant on the bus" is sufficient to describe what is in the screenshot without the screenshot being present and fails WP:NFCC#8 because there is no commentary about the screenshot thereby doing nothing to increase the reader's understanding of the topic and its exclusion is not detrimental to the understanding of the topic. Fairly sure that only coloured text is not original enough to make a copyrightable album cover. Seeing as Australia's copyrightability treshold is much lower than the US one (see the Australian Aboriginal Flag for an example), this should be relicensed as {{PD-ineligible-USOnly}}. It may also be renamed as it's shadowing a Commons redirect but that can wait. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 11:14, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

Non-free logo being used in a gallery of former logos in CBBC#Logos and also within the same article in CBBC#History. File has a non-free use rationale for one of the uses, but the rationale erroneously states the image is being used in the infobox at the top of the article to identify the station. In addition, there is only a single rationale provided so WP:NFCC#10c is not met. The usage in the logo gallery is clearly decoarative which is not something allowed per WP:NFCC#8 (WP:NFG). The usage in the "History" section also seems decorative since the context required by WP:NFCC#8 is lacking since the logo itself is not the subject of any sourced discussion within the section. I believe this image is too complicated to be below the threshold of originality for the UK to be considered {{PD-logo}}, but perhaps {{PD-USonly}} is a possibility. If the logo is too complicated for even "PD-USonly", then the multiple uses in the article clearly fail to comply with WP:NFCC#3a and I suggest remove from the gallery regardless since there does not seem to be any way to write a valid non-free use rationale for such usage. I also suggest remove from the "History" section unless the NFCC#8 concerns are properly addressed and the non-free use rationale is updated to reflect such usage. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:28, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

- File:St. John's, NL flag.gif (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by RingtailedFox ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
Non-free file being used in List of Canadian flags and St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. File has a non-free use rationale for each, but the usage in the list article is clearly decorative and does not satisfy WP:NFCC#8 (WP:NFLISTS/WP:NFTABLES). I don't see any way that a valid non-free use rationale can be written for a single entry in a list of various flags so I suggest remove from "List of Canadian Flags". File may be linked to if desired, but there are no flags listed for other cities in the same table, so not sure if that's consistent. Not sure about the file's usage in "St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador". It's being used in the main infobox, but I am wondering if it would be possible to recreate a free version of this using freely licensed elements to serve the same purpose per WP:NFCC#1 since the flag look only to be a coat-of-arms on a white background. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:09, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

- File:Aiyfposter.JPG (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Soman ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
Non-free poster art being used in All India Youth Federation. File has a non-free use rationale, but the context required by WP:NFCC#8 is lacking since the poster itself is not the subject of any sourced discussion within the article (the event it is not even mentioned). Usage appears to be purely decorative which is not allowed by WP:NFCC, so I suggest delete. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:32, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Non-free artist's rendition of a proposed building which apparently was never built. File is currently being used in Croydon Expo, List of tallest buildings and structures in Croydon, and Ruskin Square. File has a non-free use rationale for each usage, but only the one for "Ruskin Square" seems close to satisfying WP:NFCC. Usage in the list article is purely decorative and does not satisfy WP:NFCC#8 (WP:NFLISTS) since the proposed building itself is not even mentioned, yet alone the subject of any sourced discussion. Same for the usage in the "Croydon Expo" article since the context required by NFCC#8 is not there. The building is discussed in Ruskin Square#The Failed Arrowcroft / London Borough of Croydon Scheme so I could see how the image could improve the reader's understanding to the degree that removing it would be detrimental, but the discussion is unsourced so it could be considered WP:OR. I suggest remove for "Croydon Expo" and "List of tallest buildings and structures in Croydon" and keep for "Ruskin Square", but the non-free use justification would for said ussage would be stronger if supporting sources can be found and added to the article. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:52, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Non-free cover art being used in Army Daze. File has a non-free use rationale, but the context required by WP:NFCC#8 is lacking. The poster itself is not the subject of any sourced discussion within the article and seeing it not necessary for the reader to understand the sentence "Army Daze is a 1996 Singaporean comedy movie based on the 1987 theatre play". Suggest delete since this type of decorative usage is not allowed per WP:NFCC. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:07, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Non-free poster art being used in Auntie Mame#Adaptations. File has a non-free use rationale, but the context required by WP:NFCC#8 is lacking. The article is about the novel, not the Broadway play and poster itself is not the subject of any sourced commentary within the article; moreover, nothing in the short paragraph written about the play requires that the poster art be seen. There's no reason to use this non-free image here any more than there would be to use File:MameFilmPoster.jpg or File:MamePoster.jpg respectively for the film or musical adaptations of the same novel. Suggest delete. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:19, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Replaced by File:Vocativ logo.png. This may not actually be an orphaned non-free file, though, because I think it might be below c:COM:TOO. However, it is now obsolete. Suggest deletion unless there is a historical reason to retain it in the article, and it qualifies for conversion to a {{PD-logo}}. Nick—Contact/Contribs 17:49, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

This is an old non-free logo of the league which is being used without any explanation as to how it would enhance the understanding of the article topic. That is, it probably violates WP:NFCC#8 and such old logos have been deleted repeatedly in the past. Also, note that a Commons file with the same name is being shadowed. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:03, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
- Yeah, you're right. Deleting logos that were literally just changed in the last couple months and which were previously used for many years as the identifying mark of the league really helps make Wikipedia a better encyclopedia. Resolute 19:41, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
- Comment: I have renamed the nomimated file from File:CFL Logo.svg to File:CFL Logo (2009).svg per WP:FNC#9. In effect, I have also renamed this section. Steel1943 (talk) 20:43, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
- Delete. Fails WP:NFCC#8 where placed since the section does not describe the logo in detail. Steel1943 (talk) 20:43, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

This should be removed from Ischiopagi since it fails WP:NFCC#1 there. Since the subject of the article is a still-occurring condition, the example with Lakshmi Tatma cannot be the only instance of this. Steel1943 (talk) 21:22, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
- It's a very rare condition and most babies don't live for long, or are separated. I don't know if I would assume here that a replacement can reasonably be found or made - second opinions needed.Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 21:29, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Today is March 29 2016. Put new nominations in Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2016 March 29 -- ()
If the current date's page has been started without the header, apply {{subst:Ffd log}} to the top of the day's page.
Please ensure "===March 29===" is at the very top of the new page so that internal page links from the main Files for discussion page (the one you're on now) work.
The page Wikipedia:Files for discussion/Today will always show today's log.
