Beyoncé (stylized as BEYONCÉ) is the fifth studio album by American singer and songwriter Beyoncé Knowles, released on December 13, 2013 by Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records.
Release
The album was released without any announcement or promotion exclusively on the iTunes Store, surprising both fans and the press. Described as a "visual album", Beyoncé also comes with a music video with each track on the album, as well as music videos for multiple tracks not included.[3] The self-titled set is Beyoncé's first visual album, featuring 14 new songs and 17 videos.[4]
The videos were filmed throughout 2013 in several locations around the world, including: Houston, New York City, Paris, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Rio de Janeiro.[1][5] It will be released in a physical format by December 20, 2013.[6]
Commercial performance
According to Billboard, the album sold 80,000 copies within three hours of its release in the United States. The publication expected it to debut at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart.[7]
