I have been editing on Wikipedia since 7 February 2005.
I support Wikipedia:Process is Important and I urge all wikipedians to read it and consider it before undertaking out-of-process actions, particularly in regard to administrative functions.
I am interested in legal topics, and science fiction and fantasy, as well as various other subjects. I am a professional APL programmer, and I have been the chair of ACM's SIGAPL.

Ten Years
On 4 July 2015, I joined the Wikipedia Ten Year Society.
I hope to be active here at least ten years more.
As of 6 October 2005, I am an admin (janitor) here on the english-language Wikipedia. So if you have a problem that I might be able to help you with, or if you think I have made any mistake in my carrying out admin responsibilities, or in my use of the admin tools, please leave me a note on my talk page.

Recovery of deleted articles
If you need access to a Wikipedia article that has been deleted, ask me. If it's not a copyright violation, libel, or personal information, and has not been deleted as a suspected biographies of living persons violation, I will normally userfy the article for you.
Note also that I will place {{userspace draft}} on all restored articles. This will, among other things, add the NOINDEX parameter, and will prevent Google and other robots-compliant search engines from indexing the page.
If you want me to restore an article, place a note on my user talk page. Please give the exact name of the article before it was deleted if you know it. Please sign your request with four tildes (~~~~)
Education Project
I have recently (as of January 2014) been accepted as an online volunteer by the Wikipedia Education Project (not to be confused with the Wiki-project of a similar name). In this role I will attempt to assist students in particular courses.
My current courses
None.
New York Times
As of 2016, I have a digital subscription to the New York Times, with full access to digitized back issues from 1861 on. I may be willing to search for sources in those archives, or to provide information about a particular archived article, in proper cases. DES(talk) 00:22, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
Typos
I am a poor typist when typing at speed (I am particularly prone to two-character transpositions), and my editing setup does not make it easy for me to spell-check my wkipedia edits. (I routinely spell-check most other things I write.) I do spell-check major edits off line, but I generally do not spell-check smaller edits nor talk page posts. I apologize for any unclarity or cleanup work that results -- feel free to ask me to clean up after myself in articles.
User:DES-Public For use in public venues, and for non-admin tasks and to observe interfaces from a non-admin perspective.
User:DES~enwiki Created as User:DES, a doppelgänger account, but preempted and moved during global username unification, as an account with this name existed on some other wiki.

The Rescue Barnstar 3 - to be awarded to people who rescue articles from deletion or assist in identifying and rescuing articles. This can be independent of or in cooperation with the Article Rescue Squadron.
This barnstar is awarded to DESiegel for his rescue of several BLP articles which were disruptively deleted. You are a real asset to the project, thank you for your efforts, we truly need more editors like you to build the project. Ikip 06:19, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
