Miscellany for deletion (MfD) is a place where Wikipedians decide what should be done with problematic pages in the namespaces which aren't covered by other specialized deletion discussion areas. Items sent here are usually discussed for seven days; then they are either deleted by an administrator or kept, based on community consensus as evident from the discussion, consistent with policy, and with careful judgment of the rough consensus if required.
Information on the process
What may be nominated for deletion here:
-
- Pages in these namespaces: Book:, Draft:, Help:, Portal:, MediaWiki:, Wikipedia: (including WikiProjects), User:, TimedText:, Education Program:, Module:, Topic:, Gadget:, Gadget definition:, and the various Talk: namespaces
- Userboxes (regardless of namespace)
- Files in the File namespace that have a local description pages but no local file (if there is a local file, Wikipedia:Files for discussion is the right venue)
- Any other page, that is not in article space, where there is dispute as to the correct XfD venue.
Requests to undelete pages deleted after discussion here, and debate whether discussions here have been properly closed, both take place at Wikipedia:Deletion review, in accordance with Wikipedia's undeletion policy.

- User:Nihonjoie/Infobox Harry Potter book ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Copy of Template:Infobox Harry Potter book created following its deletion "for reference". If the editor wants a copy, they should ask an admin for a userification of the full history rather than just copying it to keep an orphaned version of template that has been deleted by consensus. I also note that there is no user under this name but I presume that's more of a typo by the creator than anything. Ricky81682 (talk) 05:12, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

RFC draft created by indef-blocked user to use as a BLUDGEON to press for inclusion of own work. It will clearly not be pursued. MSJapan (talk) 17:34, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
- Weak keep. Is this an userspace essay or a draft for an RFC? Essay is probably the best analogy to me. We don't normally delete essays even if the editor has been blocked. If no one else wants to take it up, mark as rejected maybe? Else, if it's a draft for an RFC, maybe let it be for now as a sandbox since the editor was just blocked. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 21:31, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
- Keep. An essay, or at least an editor's opinion, related to the project. These are never deleted from userspace unless with very good reason. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 08:16, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Procedural nomination for deletion. I deleted the main namespace article as the outcome of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fatal Blast Whip, so it's likely that this draft also qualifies for deletion. North America1000 06:29, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

- The deleted article was created on 27 May 2016, and the draft page was created on 25 May 2016. Old userspace draft for what seems to be an associate professor. I don't think he'd pass a WP:PROF test but this version has no source. It's so detailed it's possible but it's also possibly a WP:TNT situation so I don't know if it should be kept or deleted as excessively promotional. Ricky81682 (talk) 01:29, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

- User:Factomancer/Israeli art student scam ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Six year old userspace draft. The mainspace version is virtually non-existent as it survived Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Israeli art student scam only through a massive rewrite to generalize it. As such, there's no reason to keep this historical version of a page that consensus has already redacted away. Ricky81682 (talk) 19:16, 2 June 2016 (UTC)
- Keep, although is should be editorially replaced with {{Inactive userpage blanked}} due to the material being dated. These users' records are fine to be left in userspace, even of the user has had to use a new account. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 04:18, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

Userspace draft from 2010 already covered at Martin Kramer. It doesn't look to me like the editor (or under the new name) edited that page but mainspace has been around since 2004 and the first draft here seems like it was copied from there without attribution. As such it's just now a five year old version of the prior version. Ricky81682 (talk) 19:09, 2 June 2016 (UTC)

Userspace draft from May 2008. I think this is already covered by Coming of Age Day which has been around since 2004. I don't see any indication that this was merged into the mainspace one but there's almost nothing sourced so I don't know if it's needed or it's just a fork of the mainspace one from years ago. - As a note, some of these articles may have since been deleted in mainspace. Draft:Komal Jha
- Draft:Komal Jha ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
This has been rejected several times and the history at Komal Jha also suggests this cannot be accepted anytime soon considering the 2 AfDs (Added: By this, I meant the AfD tags, the first AfD and then the G4 tag afterwards) and other concerning deletions. This could, of course if needed, simply be blanked or whatever, and perhaps restarted later but I see nothing assuring from that happening and it's likely this simply be deleted for now. I also not get numerous deletions led this to being locked. SwisterTwister talk 20:57, 31 May 2016 (UTC)
- Nicely formatted and filled in draft for an actor. Notability is questionable, yes. Evaluating notability is hard work, and is only properly done for an article and at AfD. In addition to the tools at AfD, I like to review incoming links, but these are not allowed if it is a draft. The complexity of these issues is a flaw to having DraftSpace.
- If the article can be blanked and onblanked in future, then it can be left alone indefinitely.
- If the author wants to ignore reviewer comments, then I suggest that the author should draft directly in mainspace. Wikipedia was made by drafting in mainspace, and this incubator/draftspace is Wikipedia going off the rails.
- I see that "Komal Jha" has multiple hits in mainspace: (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Search&search=Komal+Jha&fulltext=Search&searchToken=8fxhyx1ysyxnmlrszocrd643n) If the article were to be drafted in mainspace, the meaningful mentions, excluding false positives, can be identified by the tool WhatLinksHere.
- The nominator mentions "the 2 AfDs and other concerning deletions", which is extremely frustrating to me. I am looking for related AfDs or other concerning deletions. Please substantiate or desist with alleging innuendo. It should not be the job of MfD reviewers to research nominator allegations.
- I guess that you mean Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Komal Jha? Is there another? Looking at User_talk:Ch.th#Komal_Jha, I see that the author submits that she has addressed the reasons for deletion at AfD. As a rule, I recommend referring allegedly fixed recreations to the deleting Admin, in this case User:DGG. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 02:14, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
- Comment - I spoke to the author and they were quote persistent that "it was no matter the previous deletions because they were apparently not relevant" but even they are and no apparent t improvements now would be any differences because this AfD was only somewhat over 6 months, certainly not enough time to become better convincing and acceptable. SwisterTwister talk 03:13, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
- Keep. I think there is possibly potential for an article; therefore the draft should remain. DGG ( talk ) 06:48, 2 June 2016 (UTC)
- Keep – As I stated in an AfC comment on the page, the subject presently meets WP:BASIC. Improve it and then publish to Main namespace. It's also too bitey of a nomination here; the deletion nominator here declined the submission (diff) and then knee-jerk nominated for deletion just over 24 hours later (diff), without allowing time for the interested contributor to really respond or copy edit the submission more. North America1000 19:27, 2 June 2016 (UTC)
- Comment - Basic is too lenient because her filmography basically seems to state there's not a fruitful career yet thus still questionable for notability. I simply nominated this because, considering the deletions, it's important to weigh this and therefore also suggests it's not acceptable for anytime soon at least. SwisterTwister talk 23:03, 2 June 2016 (UTC)
Draft:DJ Many
- Draft:DJ Many ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Looking at DJ Many (and DJ many) and the full deletion log there, you'll see this has been deleted numerous times with the past 5 years or so, and this is only making matters worse the fact there's no beaming hope to suggest this can be accepted for notability anytime soon. Sure, we could let this be and wait for any other future time, but I think that is unlikely to happen especially given the numerous attempts which suggests there's simply no actual notability. - It was listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Conservatism/Incubator#Article_lists. - Ricky81682 (talk) 20:34, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
- WP:Outlines was a quite sensible idea, proposal, and even active project, mostly driven by User:The Transhumanist, to network, index, and structurally organize mainspace articles. It was particularly justified by the obvious failure, back then, of Portal Space. There was resistance, battles even, especially over the concern that Outline articles were duplicating List articles. There is a lot of significant history there, and I am sure much useful to be learned, Portal Space is still mostly moribund, and the current fashion for single box unstructured search engine functionality may not last forever.

- Draft:Lee Waters ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Draft submission, no longer necessary to retain. This was created last year, at a time when the subject was still only a candidate for political office, and was rejected twice on that basis -- then when he won the seat earlier this month, a new article was created by an established editor through the conventional editing process. Yet for no apparent reason, several days after that, another editor updated the stale draft and resubmitted it for AFC approval again. But since an article already exists and can be updated and revised as needed, there's no need of continuing to hang onto the old draft version anymore. Delete. Bearcat (talk) 23:07, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
- Delete. The closest relevant portion of deletion policy is Wikipedia:Deletion_policy#Incubation which states that an article with "potential" can be edited before either "graduating" to mainspace or ultimately being deleted. There is no indication that it will be graduating any time soon so deletion is in line with policy. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 01:32, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

- The RFCs say more than that. What you are missing most immediately and simply here is the need for the nominator to articulate a reason for deletion. It sound like you have found an odd case, so you throw it into MfD for outside opinions. That is not the role of MfD.

- On this page, it looks plausibly notable, it probably could be partly merged into the Hawking article (I suspect the author was thinking inherited notability). --SmokeyJoe (talk) 01:52, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
- Like I said, I don't see it as every single mention I can find it purely the same single point that it was just used by Hawking. At best, it may be a move to redirect but that's not doing much. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 05:43, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
- It is commonly known fact, already present in Stephen Hawking (cited to [1]), but newcomers can't be expected to know Wikiepdia's "notability" nuances, and to know the structure of topics and pages. For this reason alone, a redirect in draftspace serves a useful purpose, assiting newcomers by pointing to existing mainspace coverage.
- The subject is also mentioned at Hawking (2013 film) and The Theory of Everything (2014 film). Definitely plausibly notable, but with an obvious merge target.
- There remains, on my further review of this, no reason for deletion. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 00:22, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

- The RFC resolution does not imply that there are no grounds for deletion. If this draft refers to a topic that will never meet GNG, it can be deleted. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 01:22, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
-
-
- Yes. Are you asserting that this topic that will never meet GNG? Or better wording: This topic can never be shown to meet GNG? Or "It is not plausible that this topic could be notable". Note that notability doesn't depend on sources in the article, but on all possible sources currently existing.
- Further, this presumes that there is no plausible merge target.
- Your nomination "looks like a non-notable" is weak, hedged, it is not sufficient rationale to agree to delete.
- Further, the RfC, nor anything else, says it must be deleted. And Wikipedia:Deletion_policy#Alternatives_to_deletion implies that you should look at the easier options before deletion as the solution.
- Bringing every weak DraftSpace draft through a deletion process is an absurd waste of time, consuming yours and others volunteer time, and completely unnecessary as DraftSpace is not MainSpace. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 02:06, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, I am asserting that this non-notable student-run debate club is never going to pass GNG, such as the non-notable literature club, quiz club, cookery club, yoga club, karate club or variety of other clubs at the school would either. As such, I suggest that it be deleted. However, if any individual who believes that it is workable can convince an admin to restore it, they can do so. Is your suggestion is that nothing should ever be deleted because there is always a possibility of it passing GNG in the future? Would you suggest that the quiz club content be made into a separate draft as well to further debate whether it should never be deleted? -- Ricky81682 (talk) 01:27, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

Userspace draft from February 2014 for a now-permabanned user. Possibly notable, I'm not sure, but the first edit with a summary of "Comment" is too good for me not to think this was copied from somewhere. I can't figure out where based on the editor's deleted contributions so part of me thinks that this is an unattributed copy from somewhere. Ricky81682 (talk) 23:05, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

This is a five-year-old stale draft copied from German encyclopedia but never completely translated. In 2009, the mainspace version of Otto Buchwitz was deleted (it was a single-line stub) following Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Claus Peter Poppe's debate about unsourced German-translated stubs. Ricky81682 (talk) 20:38, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
- Keep - this article is neither unreferenced nor a stub, so the cited AfD and the deletion of the previous iteration of this article seem completely irrelevant. All this article needs is translation, and it will be ready for mainspace. It is completely unproblematic and no benefit to the project is derived from deletion. Indeed, this page is almost certainly a net positive. Not to mention the lack of policy-based reasons for deletion. Even given the (incorrect but nonetheless applied by some) idea that drafts need to cover notable subjects, this subject is clearly notable. Honestly, I'm really confused by this nomination. A2soup (talk) 21:23, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
- Delete it is stale. If someone was inclined to translate the German page they would be foolish to start with a 5 year old copy. They should go grab the current version from German Wiki that is hopefully improved over the last 5 years. Legacypac (talk) 21:39, 8 May 2016 (UTC)

- Given that people like to have the creation credit for their work, see Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by article count, unless the editor wants to work on this, I highly doubt anyone else will want to do all the grunt work to give the credit back to someone who a half-decade ago, half-heartedly copied the German page over, especially it would likely have to be done again. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 22:39, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

- You seem to equate maintenance of standards in mainspace to that in userspace. That is mistaken because mainspace is the encyclopedia-proper, userspace is the volunteers' backroom deskspace. It is alienating to sporadic editors to have their workspace harshly judged (there is nothing allegedly wrong with this page beyond incompleteness) and deleted, and saying they can ask for permission to have it back is to ignore the alienation coming from that power differential. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 08:56, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

Unless you've gone blind you will seethe editor's not edited the thing since creation (2011) and his last contrib was in "03:30, 10 June 2012" so basically when that editor goes away and abandons that draft it's then our issue and we should deal with that issue by deleting it (what actual benefit is there in keeping it??), Rubbish the only thing that's disruptive here is people like you !voting Keep on something that's not been edited in 5 years and own't ever be edited for the foreseeable future. –Davey2010Talk 16:08, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

- Davey, I think you have a short term perspective. That's OK, but it is not OK to refuse other's perspectives. This project will not be complete in 100 years, and an editing break of almost four years is not remarkable. A great many editors have been teenagers. Of course they are going to take long breaks when they start serious study, or start their careers, and families. It will then be normal for them to come back in, perhaps after 20 years. This is the experience of many volunteer organisations, and why should Wikipedia be terribly different? You make too much of the length of inactivity. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 09:05, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

- Everyone here is entitled to their opinion and I have no problem with that, I personally have never known an editor to take a long term break and then come back 4/5 years later and If it does happen then I'd say it probably doesn't happen regularly, I do but I mean I'm not trying to cause arguments with you but I just genuinely don't see any need to keep them I honestly don't, BTW I've cut the language above which I apologize for, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 11:12, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

This one is a little tricky. The subject got media coverage and this is a tragic story. Does WP:BLP1E apply here? Is there good reason this page should be kept or deleted? I'm going to say Delete as inappropriately negative about the subject. Legacypac (talk) 19:59, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
- BLP1E doesn't technically apply since the subject is not living or recently deceased, but given the subject matter a WP:COMMONSENSE-based argument isn't inappropriate. We (unfortunately) have List of suicides which have been attributed to bullying, which is a potential merge target. VQuakr (talk) 20:25, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

- Looking at that list - nearly all the names have articles. That suggests mainspace it and include a link and summary in the list. Legacypac (talk) 20:33, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
- I considered that, but there doesn't seem to ever have been a consensus on the talk page of that article to restrict the list to entries with articles. IMO Hope Witsell would not satisfy the requirements for a stand-alone article per WP:ONEEVENT, so better to merge it now and avoid a 2nd round of processing over in article space. - Redirect to FIRST Robotics Competition. I appear to have misread the draft previously, the draft is about a team, not about the competition. The competition is covered at FIRST Robotics Competition. It is plausible that more individual teams might be covered there. There is at least one source covering this team. Agree that it is implausible that this individual team would warrant a stand alone article, but that doesn't mandate deletion. Dropping a note at Talk:FIRST Robotics Competition might be a good idea. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 09:14, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
- Why would it redirect to the competition? The team is one of thirty-nine Australian team (as of 2016), and that presumes that the team is around today. There's over 3100 teams. If it's not still active, is it really appropriate to redirect all past team names to the competition page? -- Ricky81682 (talk) 10:58, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
- I presume I understand correctly that this competition is the main competition the team plays (played) in. The redirect is a strong hint that if they are interested in the topic of robot competitions, this topic is probably a good one to start with, instead of their old team. Redirect does not imply attribution at the target, or that content should be merged, although it is possible that content may be merged. "Delete with a suggestion to improve FIRST Robotics Competition" is effectively the same thing, but requires an administrator to be involved. Requiring administrators (or other administrators) to be involved with such petty things is a waste of administrator resource. But I don't oppose "delete now that we are here". Indeed, this team has no plausible chance, beyond a possible mere mention, as a team, on the competition page. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 11:46, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

If and when I move something to article space that you object to, then you'll have valid cause to complain. But a clipping I've got in my own space for the purpose of research? I wish I had time on my hands to worry about stuff like that. David Cannon (talk) 12:58, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
- Weak delete. I'm not sure why it's protected but fine, it is. It's still an unattributed copy so it's going to be remade into something else, the original version will have to be restored and merged into it. I'd call this a userification attempt and I say restore the original mainspace edits and move it to this page so that the full history is intact. After that, no one will care unless and until David brings it back into mainspace. Being an administrator doesn't give carte blanche to randomly protect your own subpages and to ignore attribution requirements. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 21:20, 24 April 2016 (UTC)

Keep. Reasonable leeway in userspace for an active Wikipedian. Just because the material is not suitable to be a stand alone article (obviously!) doesn't mean it is not allowed as notes in userspace. Stop harassing other editors and find something useful to do. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 04:07, 27 May 2016 (UTC)- It's an unattributed UP copy of a probably copied-and-pasted pure dataset that hasn't been touched and shows no indication of being touched in the future. This ticks just about every box we have. I mean, I guess at least it isn't blatant advertising? The harassment argument is just a weird non-sequitur. —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 11:02, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

- I see a data table. Data tables (compiled according to simple logic) are not creative content and are not copyrightable. Advertising? I don't see the advertising angle, can you help me there? --SmokeyJoe (talk) 11:07, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

- I didn't say there was an advertising problem. I said at least it isn't blatant advertising. It ticks just about every other box for deletion. UP#COPIES doesn't purely rest on copyright issues. This is a wholesale copy of a mainspace article. But let's take your word for it that it's a simple, noncopyrightable data table sorted according to simple logic: In that case, WP:RAWDATA applies all the more! Certainly, userspace might be used to draft things that contain or rely on raw data, but that's not what's happening here. There is no reasonable hope of this ever being touched, just looking at the creator's track record, and the fact that it's full-protected. Look, you can't have this both ways. It can't be both exempt from UP#COPIES as uncopyrightable, and also exempt from WP:RAWDATA as somehow being part of the drafting of a Wikipedia article. Even having responded to this MfD, David hasn't even touched the page at all. Is he active or inactive? Is he using this or not using this? Certainly some leeway must be given, but this oversteps that leeway. As a current admin, David is fully capable of accessing the deleted page should he, for some reason, desire to use the data table in the future. —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 13:53, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

- I have to give you that point "It can't be both exempt from UP#COPIES as uncopyrightable, and also exempt from WP:RAWDATA as somehow being part of the drafting of a Wikipedia article." I should probably apologise because you did essentially make that point in the second sentence of your nomination. Yes, what possible use could he have for this data? I'll withdraw the "keep". I can't see any proper reason for hosting this material. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 04:08, 31 May 2016 (UTC)
