Since you are a native Russian speaker, could you please translate the Red Army award citations for Alexander Nikolayev, a Hero of the Soviet Union at these links: [1], [2]. After you translate them could you please add the information to the Alexander Nikolayev article? Thanks, Kges1901 (talk) 19:44, 7 January 2016 (UTC)
- Hi. Both those citations are for his two Orders of the Red Banner. Other references are already used to support the related sentence. In case of something, let me know. Brandmeistertalk 20:20, 7 January 2016 (UTC)
- The issue is not that I need support for the awarding, but that I would like to know what exactly he was reported to have done in order to receive the awards. Kges1901 (talk) 20:26, 7 January 2016 (UTC)
- Ah. The first ref says, verbatim (what I could read as it's handwritten): "During offensive fights of the regiment, from March 21, 1945 to March 23, 1945, (he) displayed courage and valor as the commander of a (?) company. At that time... his company managed to break the line of enemy (...) trenches and retake? 3 inhabited places. Commanded by comrade Nikolayev, the company killed 80 enemy soldiers and officers in those fights and captured over 12 Germans. He himself led the capture of enemy trenches. With his courage he led his men for heroism. [He] was wounded in a fight on March 23, 1945 but did not left the battlefield until the military objective was completed. For the able command of the company during fights at the city outskirts of Danzig he is commendable for the state award of the Order of Alexander Nevsky". There's a discrepancy between the scanned handwritten text and typed text in the reference, as I only read the typed text initially. The second ref says: "On behalf of the Supreme Soviet, for the exemplary accomplishment of miliary objectives of the command during the conflict with German occupants and the gallantry and courage displayed I bestow the Order of the Red Banner to... Lt. Alexander Petrovich Nikolayev, commander of the rifle company of the motorized machine gun battalion of the 197th Sverdlovsk Tank Brigade of the 30th Ural Volunteer Tank Corps". The article that I created, Alexey Nemkov, was assessed as C class due to sketchiness. I am trying to improve it to a B and adding more information about how he received his other awards would make it more complete. Could you please translate the following citations : [3], [4] and [5] Thanks, Kges1901 (talk) 09:45, 10 January 2016 (UTC)
- The first ref issued by the 37th Guards Rifle Division of the 1st Belarusian Front on 23 Oct 1944 says: "Guards Senior Lieutenant Nemkov Alexey Vladimirovich, commander of the rifle company of the 118th Guards Rifle Regiment (is hereby awarded the Order of the Red Star)". The second ref is an Order to the 65th Soviet Army from 24 Oct 1944 and says that Guards Senior Lieutenant Nemkov is awarded, among other persons, the Order of the Red Banner as the commander of the rifle company of the 118th Guards Rifle Regiment from the 37th Guards Rifle Division "for the exemplary fulfillment of military objectives of the command in the conflict with German invaders, and the gallantry and courage displayed at that time". The third ref issued by a unit of the 2nd Belarusian Front on 16 May 1945 says that Nemkov is awarded the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky as the deputy battalion commander of the 118th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 7th Guards Rifle Division. Brandmeistertalk 12:07, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
- Sorry that I didn't clarify more since there are multiple documents at the links, but what I meant specifically was the "Подвиг" tab on the far left of the bar. The Подвиг document contains the reasons he was awarded the orders. Kges1901 (talk) 20:45, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
- I see now. Will do soon, that's handwritten. Brandmeistertalk 21:44, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
- The first ref: "Guards Senior Lieutenant Nemkov is the participant in the Great Patriotic War since its earliest days. During that time, he displayed gallantry and courage on the battlefield several times, and the skill of commanding own units in the battle. During the offensive battles from 10 August 1944 to 30 September 1944, the company led by comrade Nemkov has traversed over 300 km. During fights for the Motherland he accrued 10 killed enemy soldiers and officers on his battle tally. During the Great Patriotic War period he was wounded twice and was shell-shocked once. In accordance with the order of the 1st Belarusian Front no. 0131, comrade Nemkov is commendable for the government award of the Order of the Red Star".
- The second ref: "While commanding a rifle company in the fights on 25 August 1944 in the vicinity of the village Zalye, Guards Senior Lieutenant Nemkov showed himself as a tactically knowledgeable, gallant and resolute officer. In that battle his company was the first to break into the enemy trenches, having driven the enemy out of them and killing up to 20 German soldiers and officers at that time. While chasing the retreating enemy, the company of comrade Nemkov recaptured one towing vehicle and two mortars, took the village Lysaya-Gura and the Moscow-Warsaw highway. In the battle for the inhabited place Brok on 27 August 1944 the company of comrade Nemkov was the first to enter it and (?), thus severing the enemy retreat route, having killed 25 German soldiers and officers at the time. In the battle on 30 August 1944 in the vicinity of the village Poręba, while repelling an enemy counterattack, the company of comrade Nemkov killed up to 18 German soldiers and officers. In that battle comrade Nemkov was lightly wounded in the leg, but did not left the battlefield and continued to lead the unit. In a battle on the western shore of the River Narev, in the vicinity of the village Lubeneu, the company of comrade Nemkov was among the first to drive the Germans out of 3 trenches, at that time up to 15 German soldiers and officers were killed, with 5 regimental mortars and 1 towing vehicle being captured from the enemy. Comrade Nemkov has constantly been among the company ranks, where he ably managed the battle. During the entire battle period, he personally killed 10 German soldiers. He is commendable for the government award of the Order of the Red Banner".
- The third ref: "In the offensive battles of the regiment from 23 March 1945 to 28 March 1945, during the elimination of the encircled German troops in the vicinity of the city of Danzig, Guards Captain Nemkov as a commander of the 120th (?) Rifle Battalion showed a skillful command of the unit. In the battle on 27 March 1945 when Germans numbering up to one infantry battalion launched a conuter-attack, the battalion led by comrade Nemkov successfully repelled eleven German counter-attacks and having unsinewed the enemy, the battalion broke the German resistance and proceeded forward, fightening its way to the city of Danzig and occupying several precincts. With his gallantry and courage comrade Nemkov inspired his men to heroism. In the battles from 23 March 1945 to 28 March 1945 the battalion led by comrade Nemkov killed over 215 Germans, destroyed 24 firing points, suppressed the fire from 27 (?) mortar batteries, 5 cannons, and captured over 130 Germans. For the able command of the battalion in the battles at the city outskirts of Danzig and during street fights, as well for the gallantry and courage displayed at that time he is commendable for the government award of the Order of the Red Banner". Painting of Sor Juana
I bring your attention to an edit to Juana Inés de la Cruz which I reverted: here.
The claim is that the particular painting of Sor Juana on Wikimedia is not 17th century, but instead is a contemporary painting by Jorge Sanchez Hernández, the editor's uncle. I left a message for her on her talk page User talk:Elenapietrini, directing her to contest the image on Wikimedia. Since you uploaded the image, I figured you needed a heads-up on this. Regards, Tarl.Neustaedter (talk) 23:54, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
- I've reverted the claim in Commons. The painting is clearly signed J. Sánchez and dated 1666 in the lower right corner. At best, that lady may own a modern reproduction of this painting which confuses her. Brandmeistertalk 00:08, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

Venereum
Hi Brandmeister. I came across the article on Venereum, a type of room in the Roman house. The way Moormann uses the term got me thinking. He uses quotes around it and emphasises that it's an early interpretation. I got in touch with an academic about it and he said the concept of the Venereum is based on a misreading of an inscription in which the term is used as an adjective. Once the term was coined others went looking for other rooms to label as such. Essentially there is no such room type, and it seemed to be a term which fell out of use a ling time ago. What do you think we should do with the Wikipedia article? Nev1 (talk) 21:47, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
- Hi. From what I see, that Latin inscription from the House of Julia Felix reads "In praedis Juliae Sp. F. Feilics Locantur balneum venereum et nongentum tabernae pergulae". I looked at some modern sources, they interpret that "balneum venereum" either as "private baths" or as "bath fit for Venus". If that's correct, the article could be corrected. If I find more references, I'll add them to the article. Brandmeistertalk 22:22, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

Your Revenant interest
Your comments on the Talk page at the Revenant article. There was an article on the studio's over-the-top promotional campaign during the awards season concerning DiCaprio and the bear, etc. See John Anderson, "Leo, the bear and the confounding Oscar race of 2016", Entertainment Weekly, Feb 12, 2016, p51. Is it worth mention of the Academy Award promotion campaign by the studio on the article page? Cheers. Fountains-of-Paris (talk) 15:29, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
- I think a cursory mention can be made. Also, could you provide a reference for Innaritu's preference to use the "survival and revenge film"? I don't see it in the article. Thanks. Brandmeistertalk 15:50, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
- The Anderson article I just mentioned was actually TIME magazine on Feb4 and is now access locked by the publisher. The Inarittu material you ask about was in the actual documentary of him which is linked in the Documentary section of the article (its worth the 45-minute run time). If you can figure out a way to get the access-lock issue addressed on the TIME article, then it might make for a nice addition of the Anderson material. Cheers. Russian Translation Request #3
Hello again, Brandmeister. Another of the articles that I have expanded has been assessed as not meeting the MILHIST B2 standard. Could you please translate the text on the document shown under the Наградной лист tab at this Link for Ismailbek Taranchiev's Order of the Red Star citation. If the text is too small a seemingly magnified version of the document is under the Подвиг tab. Thanks in advance, Kges1901 (talk) 08:29, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
- Hello. The text is: "Letter of recommendation. 1. Name, last name, patronymic: Taranchiev Ismailbek. 2. Rank: Junior Lieutenant. 3. On 13 December 1944, while on a combat mission alongside 4 artillery fire suppression crews around Platim the aircraft piloted by Taranchiev was heavily damaged. Despite heavy damage, comrade Taranchiev was able to take it to its aerodrome and safely land it. The successfulness of completed combat sorties is confirmed by the division staff. On 18 February 1944, for the excellent air attack of the military equipment and enemy personnel in an area west of Narva the ground command of the 30th (unknown acronym), a gratitude is declared to the Regiment. For the excellent performance of combat missions of the command, and the valor and courage displayed in the fights with German invaders, [Taranchiev] is recommended for the state award Order of the Red Star. Thanks for your edits at Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The edit summary you gave in one of those edits states a net profit of $441 million is "hardly a disappointment". While I agree that "by some" should be added here (since we don't really know to what extent it's supported by experts in the field), I don't believe you're aware that the profit is actually much, much lower. For starters, it has been reported that the film would need to cross $800 million to start turning a profit. Why so high? This is because studios only get 50-60% of ticket sales in the US, and even less in many overseas markets. When you add marketing costs to the overall production budget of $250 million, many have estimated as much as $350 million (or more) was spent to produce this film. So when its gross hit the $800 million mark, it was basically breaking even. It's definitely in the black now, but nowhere near the $400 million in your comments. Just thought I'd mention it. --GoneIn60 (talk) 19:32, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for sharing thoughts. If the production crew also views this as a disappointment, it could be mentioned, but otherwise it looks like redundant journalistic opinion, I think. For clarification, I calculated this way: 250 million production budget + 160 million (upper estimation) of marketing costs = 410 million of total spendings. Since the film currently grossed roughly 851 million according to the article, the net profit is roughly 441 million. Brandmeistertalk 19:44, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
- Gotcha. I see how you arrived at that number now. Yeah, it's just important to realize that when you see "worldwide gross" totals, not all of that goes back to the studio. A big portion is kept by the theaters. In China, for example, I've read some US films get less than 35% of the revenue. Ouch! --GoneIn60 (talk) 20:35, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Indian cuisine into India. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was moved, attribution is not required. — Diannaa (talk) 21:11, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
Removal of talk page threads
Hi, re this edit: another user (Crh23) had replied, so WP:TPO prohibits the complete removal of the thread. You could have moved it to be with the other related threads on the same page, so that is what I have done. --Redrose64 (talk) 22:56, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

Per a comment on Commons, I've added a very slight sharpening to the original image. Can you please review your vote and make sure you're still happy with the image? Cheers! Adam Cuerden (talk) 13:48, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
- Looks ok, I still support. Brandmeistertalk 13:59, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:23, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

My tone in the edit summary was sharper than usual, sorry. Anyone is welcome to edit TFA text before it gets protected near its Main Page day. I don't think that edit will work in this case, though. I'm offering you a compromise in the form of adding "General" back (at the start), though I've already been reverted once when I did that, and it's not what we normally do. - Dank (push to talk) 14:07, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
- Don't mind, but now I think "was a U.S. general" is succinct enough to be placed there, as we don't typically jump directly to person's actions in biographies. Brandmeistertalk 14:31, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
- "U.S" is uber-repetitive in this context, but I can otherwise live with this, and I agree that your way is the more standard way to deal with the problem. It may also make Ian happy, since now we can link "general". - Dank (push to talk) 14:43, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

G'day from Oz; it's not necessarily ungrammatical to say that "Flight XXX" was an aircraft, although it may be a bit early in this case. The missing Boeing 777 is now known as MH370; when people say that the search for MH370 has not produced results or whatever, they are referring to the aircraft itself. There are plenty of other such cases as well. Cheers YSSYguy (talk) 17:51, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
- Just to my knowledge such articles (including MH370) usually begin with the type of flight and starting it with "was an aicraft" looks borked to me, also per WP:BEGIN. Best, Brandmeistertalk 18:01, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
Coma Berenices image placement
I moved that last image further up the page because where you replaced it prevents the long reflist from displaying in two columns. A GA reviewer may notice that. All the best, Miniapolis 01:43, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
- Yeah, I noticed after my saving. Brandmeistertalk 10:44, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
- In that case, I'll move it back. All the best, Miniapolis 14:21, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
- I've already did, so that the bottom would coincide with the relevant section. Brandmeistertalk 15:00, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
- In that case, I'll move it back. All the best, Miniapolis 14:21, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
Neapolitan Sunset
You took it upon yourself to remove one of the most unique sunsets on this encyclopedia to represent the southwest desert area. You claimed in your edit summary, that the "Photo Caption" read that is was due to smoke. That was untrue. The caption said noting of the sort. You had to click on the photo, and follow it to it's Commons description to find that info. I have replaced the photo with one that has no "SMOKE". Editing for the sake of editing is not a contribution my friend and the hoard of readers that clicked on that photo to view it this last 2 weeks would agree with me. Hopefully, you will not find a random excuse to eliminate the new one. Thanks, and happy editing.Pocketthis (talk) 22:10, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
- A few hours later, and with some time to evaluate the fit of the new photo, I am pleased to say that the new addition fits the page better in color and composition. So, I am pleased that you made the edit after all. I must say in all honesty, that the smokey, hazy conditions of the photo you removed, were not a relevant factor in my increased appreciation for the replacement photo, but rather that the Neapolitan shot was very red, and almost a distraction when scrolling down the page. All the best - Pocketthis (talk) 01:05, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
