Comprehensive edits analysis
Tile join (also known as the "Genesis vandal" or "Virgin Killer vandal") is a serial sockpuppeteer who has edited off and on since at least the beginning of 2007. Because of the use of "throwaway" sockpuppet accounts, which are not marked per revert, block, and ignore, the editing patterns of this user are best followed from the history pages of his major targets. Historically he has used sockpuppets in long-running edit wars for some particular change or to completely replace an article with something else. Tile join has access to a large number of IPs from different ISPs in England.
Articles
Pages targeted include:
- Bethel Church, Mansfield Woodhouse: wants to include the word "tyre" in the description of a business;
- Evolution: the typical attack is to replace the text with part of the biblical book of Genesis;
- Talk:Evolution: same as Evolution;
- Northwich Victoria F.C.: historically edit-warred over player nationalities;
- Virgin Killer: removes the controversial album cover image;
- Winshill: restores an older version that violates copyright;
- Witton Albion F.C.: changes the capacity of the stadium to 2,300.
User pages targeted include User:Raul654 and User:Richard Rundle.
Editing styles & patterns
Attacks are typically a combination of one type of edit that is particular to a page, and a mix of page blanking, section blanking, use of nowiki tags and <-- --> arrows to disrupt formatting, and insertion of unrelated material. When a target is semiprotected, Tile join will circumvent by gaming auto-confirmation (waiting four days after registering, and then making ten meaningless edits, usually adding and removing something to a user page or user talk page).
Username patterns
Usernames are typically short meaningless combinations of letters and numbers (Wayx, Pep3rr,...), two unrelated words (Tile join, Far where,...), a word and numbers (Venn 87, 74 seem...) or two short character salads (Way oww, Katt ye,...). Sometimes the name has some relationship to a targeted article, or to previous names (such as Tile Witt and Eir Join, in reference to Tile join and Eir Witt, another prominent alias).
Other notes
A combination of edit filters, IP range blocks, pending changes protection, and semiprotection can be used against Tile join, as a situation warrants.
This vandal has also been reported at other sites, such as EvoWiki a free wiki encyclopedia of evolution and biology written from a pro evolution point of view ([1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] )... ... and the OLPC Wiki ([9][10]).
Tile join is probably British, and usually edits in the evenings of British time.
