This page lists proposed article mergers and splits as a supplement to the merge categories and templates and also spilt categories and templates; it is an index of ongoing discussions of possible mergers and splits, and does not replace any of the other steps in the merger process or the splitting process. Please add the appropriate merger tag(s) or spilitting tag(s) to the articles before listing them here.

How to propose a merger
There are three types of mergers on Wikipedia:
- mergers that are so obviously necessary and appropriate that no one is expected to object;
- mergers that would benefit from discussion with the other editors at the affected articles' Talk page about whether and/or how to perform the merge; and
- mergers that are either controversial or potentially difficult to carry out, and therefore need assistance from uninvolved editors in determining whether to merge the pages.
If the pages that you would like to merge fall into the type 1 group, then it is not necessary to propose a merger at all. You should boldly do the merger now, without formally proposing it. (In the event that someone unexpectedly objects, then the merger can be undone easily, and you can formally propose the merger for discussion at that time.)
If the merge falls into the type 2 group or type 3 group, or a formal discussion is needed or wanted, then proposing a merger can be done in three steps (as the proposer, you should still be willing to carry-out the merger in a type 2 article):
- Step 1: Create a place for discussion. Go to the Talk Page (also known as the discussion page) of the TARGET ARTICLE (the one you want to merge to) and create a section (eg: "Merger proposal") to discuss the merger. If there's already a discussion on the talk page regarding the merger, you can omit this step. Whether the discussion is new or old, make sure the discussion section names all articles involved and links to them. The section name can be anything that includes the word merge (for example
==Merger discussion==
). - Step 2: Put one of the merger tags at the top of the articles you wish to be merged. The templates {{Merge from}} and {{Merge to}}, or {{merge}} are the most common ones. Remember to make sure that the Discuss link in each tag points to the section you've created in step 1 (this is to prevent having two separate discussions on different talk pages).
- Step 3: If the proposed merge is controversial or potentially difficult to carry out, follow the directions under #Requests for merge assistance and feedback to add it to the list.
- See: Copy and Paste easy merge templates for easy to follow shortcuts of the above procedure.
Many bold mergers are performed each day. Of the mergers that are formally proposed, about 95% fall into the second category, of wanting discussion or practical assistance from the editors at the articles that are to be merged. The remaining 5% of formally proposed mergers are on contentious topics or are controversial for one reason or another. Only this small fraction is listed at the bottom of this page as instructed in step #3.
Requests for merge assistance and feedback
If you need outside feedback regarding mergers that are either tricky or of a controversial nature, please do the following:
- Tag the article as shown above
- Create a discussion as shown above
- Notify the talk page of the appropriate Wikiproject to get knowledgeable people to comment on it. (To find out which Wikiproject the page is associated with, check the associated talk page. It should be tagged with a template, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey.)
- If there is consensus to merge, but the merge is difficult, contact Wikipedia:WikiProject Merge for assistance.
For other topics:
- If you need help with renaming or moving, consult Wikipedia:Moving a page.
- Cut-and-paste move fixes: If you have merged an article by this method, then you need to request page histories to be merged; list them at requests for history merge. Please DO NOT perform further moves by cut and paste.
NOTE: Do not post here if you are not willing to do the merge yourself. We will provide you assistance in how to complete the merge if you are unsure how to do it. -Project Merge
NOTE: Please do not re-list old merge proposals that are already tagged and in the "to Merge" queue (including requests made up to two years ago), as these will be handled as we get to them. -Project Merge
Merge requests
New requests
If you need assistance with proposing a merge, list it below and someone will make sure it's properly listed. Note that this will not get the merge completed, as there is a large merge backlog. After a merge is listed properly, move it to the "Answered requests" or "Awaiting consensus" sections below as appropriate.
Please list new requests at the bottom of this section. Use the Edit Summary and list at least a link to the article to be redirected. Please legitimize your request by signing each listing or comment by typing four tildes (~~~~). Unsigned requests will not be honored.
Awaiting consensus
After all involved articles are tagged for merger discussion, the request should be added at (or moved to) the bottom of this section. This section can also be used if a proposal needs further discussion due to age or disagreement. All merger comments and discussions should be directed to the Discussion subsection of the targeted articles' talk page, not here. We will also attempt to get more people to comment on proposals.

Merge North Caucasian Huns into Huns. North Caucasian Huns is a stub and only has one source I'd really consider reliable. I propose merging it to Huns. The vast majority of scholars believe that the North Caucasian Huns were descended from or closely related to Attila's Huns, including Denis Sinor, Peter Golden, Otto Maenchen-Helfen, and Jin Hyun Kim. There's no real reason to give them their own article. Additionally, the article currently falsely gives the impression that the North Caucasian Huns are the "Khunni" mentioned in Ptolemy.--Ermenrich (talk) 15:07, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

Merge...Estimated number of guns per capita by country into Gun ownership....The "Estimated number of guns per capita by country" page is based on the 2007, Small Arms Survey report, it is now badly out-of-date (over 10 years) and frankly not salvageable. Therefore, I recommend that it be redirected to the "Gun ownership" page, which has a far more comprehensive and up-to-date list, taken from the June 2018, Small Arms Survey report. This list includes Estimate of firearms in civilian possession, Population 2017, and Estimate of civilian firearms per 100 persons. Whereas the Estimated number of guns per capita by country only includes Civilian-held firearms per 100 population.--RAF910 (talk) 20:39, 29 June 2018 (UTC)

Merge John Couey into Murder of Jessica Lunsford. Couey's only real notable crime was killing Lunsford and most of his article talks about that crime, which is already covered in the murder article. 74.89.40.58 (talk) 21:18, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Split requests
Newly requested
If you need assistance with proposing a split, list it below and someone will make sure it's properly listed. Note that this will not get the split completed, as there may be a backlog, and splits often require considerable discussion. After a split is listed properly, move it to the "Completed requests" or "Awaiting consensus" sections below as appropriate.
Please list new requests at the bottom of this section. Use the Edit Summary and list at least a link to the article to be redirected. Please legitimize your request by signing each listing or comment by typing four tildes (~~~~). Unsigned requests will not be honored.
Consensus pending
After the involved article is tagged for split discussion, the request should be added at (or moved to) the bottom of this section. This section can also be used if a proposal needs further discussion due to age or disagreement. All split comments and discussions should be directed to the Discussion subsection of the targeted article's talk page, not here. We will also attempt to get more people to comment on proposals.
Split Community into Community (settlement) and Community (sociology): to distinguish between the only tenuously related 1) original human geography sense of the term, based on physical living environment; and 2) the subcultural derived meaning of intentional community, voluntary association, and self-selecting participation. What we have right now is basically a messy WP:COATRACK situation. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 00:21, 27 July 2018 (UTC)

Split American Bucking Bull into American Bucking Bull, Inc. and American Bucking Bull cattle: There's a WP:COATRACK here, where an animal breed article's content is basically hidden inside an article on an organization. This is not how we do things. The breed article should be split out to American Bucking Bull cattle, with {{Infobox cattle breed}}
and the normal sections for a breed article, like "Breed characteristics", "History", "Genetics", or whatever we'll have the sources for. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 18:52, 31 July 2018 (UTC)

Oppose: This is a distinction without a difference. The Bucking Bull breed and its registry have no need for a split. If the corporation needs a separate article, that's a separate question, not a split discussion (Like American Quarter Horse and American Quarter Horse Association). As usual, the lead editor on these articles appears to not have been notified. Montanabw(talk) 16:35, 1 August 2018 (UTC)Whoops, sorry, moved this to the discussion page of the article. Split Stagg Field concerns two distinct topics - the old Stagg Field/Marshall Field (used by a Big 10 football team, the site of nuclear testing, and torn down in the 50s/60s) and the new Stagg Field (tiny complex built relatively recently). There should be two articles. --B (talk) 12:34, 11 October 2018 (UTC)

Split Anderson shelter out of Air raid shelter. I think this a very well known topic in the UK and is worthy of its own article. Having a separate article would also encourage further expansion in future. See Talk:Air raid shelter#Anderson shelter BubbleEngineer (talk) 19:27, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

Split Template:Survivor should be split into Template:Survivor and Template: Survivor (U.S. TV series). Currently the template includes both world-view and US-franchise templates which is a problem as the US navigation template is placed in non-US series pages which have no relevance to it. This merged style is unique to this template as other reality-show templates, such as Big Brother, have individual templates. --Gonnym (talk) 20:19, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
