Tardiness and predatory journals
Staszek Lem, while investigating something I discovered that in this edit you seem to have copied information from this or a similar version of another article. Please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Also, one of the sources you copied is a predatory journal, the International Journal of Business and Social Science, published by the "Center for Promoting Ideas". Please see Jeffrey Beall's list. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 15:15, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

NOTHERE
Hi, Staszek. I agree the guy you reported to UAA is NOTHERE, but there's not much I can do other than hardblock the account. I generally don't even like to put a template on the page when I block obscene names, per WP:DENY and also because I'd rather not have the name adorn my contributions list. Hardblock means the IP is blocked too — but only for about 24 hourse. Basically, as I guess you know, there's little we can do, other than briefly, to stop abusive individuals from editing. Thanks for reporting. Bishonen | talk 21:32, 14 September 2017 (UTC).

Longest words
Please bring your comments to the article Talk, not my personal talk, so that others can join in - it's a complicated topic. Wikipedia has long frowned on littering articles with lots of repetitive tags rather than using over-arching tags, but this is a complicated article so perhaps a different method is appropriate. But, as I say, this should be discussed at the article. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 17:01, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

About usage of primary sources in Scottish_Russians
Dear colleague, sorry for disturbing, its about usage of historical documents (primary sources) as sole references. I find out that those records from "finance books" was published already by Russian Academy of Sciences in 1983, Ed. by academician Veselovsky. After it was published ones it's possible to use as for references or not? "Академия наук СССР, Отделение истории aрхив АН СССР. Приходно-расходные книги московских приказов 1619-1621 гг. FYI, I've asked both WP:NORN and WP:NPOVN for additional input at Talk:Rape myths, since three and only three editors arguing circularly with each other isn't likely to produce anything but irritation. A Barnstar for you
The Special Barnstar | ||
This is a Special Barnstar for you, Staszek, as we don't yet have a Barnstar for Exceptional Reasonableness, and I don't have the graphic skills to create one. You deserve it because I can't remember any other editor on Wikipedia going out of their way to meet halfway an editor whom they had reverted and whom they didn't have to try to meet halfway because the other editor had already thrown in the towel. Thanks. Tlhslobus (talk) 08:24, 11 December 2017 (UTC) |
Edit war warning
What the hell? These articles have been disrupted by advocates and you are now following directly in their footsteps.
Your recent editing history at pfSense shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.. Superstition in Turkey
I had to undo your edits because you added them to a version of the article I consider problematic. Feel free to add your edits to the current version, or better, we could use a third party comments on the issue. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:33, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
- To Piotrus: -- Ah, I see. Both of you have valid points. Still, Nazar and the more, the evil eye, are not limited to Turkey, so IMO there is no reason to add more. In addition, "your" version (I guess not really your :-) is written in the language of modern Western kook ("negative energy", etc.) In such things we do really solid need refs to ethnographers. Staszek Lem (talk) 21:45, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
Time to ask for an assessment?
I think it's about time for one of us to ask for an uninvolved admin to rule on whether your proposal (Wikipedia talk:Be bold#Proposal) has consensus, though you might perhaps first want to add your own vote as nominator to make it 4 to 1 in favour instead of 3 to 1 (I don't know enough about such things to know whether it makes a difference or not). Regards, and Merry Christmas. Tlhslobus (talk) 13:47, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
Incidentally, if you're not sure whom to ask, I thought Kudpung made a fair assessment a few days ago (here), and I also usually trust DrMies when I need advice. But I don't know whether we're supposed to ask for our own admin, so it may be a matter of asking for their advice on who to ask and how to go about it, always assuming, probably wrongly, that, like me, you don't already know what to do. Tlhslobus (talk) 13:59, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
Having now read the rules Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment#Ending_RfCs, I'm not sure whether or not we shouldn't just agree to close it ourselves rather than posting a request at the indicated noticeboard (it all depends on the definition of 'contentious', I guess, but I don't really think it is 'contentious', and in such cases we're told not to post at the noticeboard, which is only meant for the most contentious stuff). But if so, we arguably still need to ask somebody uninvolved (such as Kudpung or DrMies, as mentioned above?) to do that for us. Otherwise I'm worried it will just hang around until a bot deletes it around the 7th of January Tlhslobus (talk) 14:14, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
Or perhaps we should just ask at the proposal, which I think I will now do. Tlhslobus (talk) 14:35, 21 December 2017 (UTC)

Tsarist autocracy
Could you place the following text back this anonymous contributor removed? https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tsarist_autocracy&diff=746461868&oldid=744634240
Also, it is mindbaffling how this article still exists, given the repeated discussions on the talkpage which all point at the poor quality of research by which the article hangs together (barely). 2001:1C02:1907:9500:5961:8A5E:9CFA:3884 (talk) 17:28, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- @2001:1C02:1907:9500:5961:8A5E:9CFA:3884: I agree the article is a mess, but the text you want to restore IMO does not have direct relevance to the article subject. Also the text "have pointed to a racial element in the concept" -s Wikipedian's interpretation of sources, i.e., a piece original wikipedian's research inadmissible in wikipedia. 17:42, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
AS I understand it, the original writer of the piece pointed at some authors that highlighted figures, like Kennan and other US Cold War historians/policy makers, who basically said that the 'concept' or 'model' is part of the Russian race/ethnicity. This was the argument of the authors, not so much of the original writer here. At least, that's how I read the references. But again, I find that a great deal of the sources there could be dismissed as irrelevant and non-specialist. But hey, what do you expect, when everyone who knows his way around with a keyboard and google thinks he's an academic specialist? Googling some terms, not reading the actual works to understand why the terms are mentioned, not grasping the debate, apparently stands for encyclopedic integrity here. 2001:1C02:1907:9500:6979:A7F1:7DD3:F83C (talk) 08:21, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

Raróg and CD Projekt Logo
Hi. You removed my information on Raróg used in CD Projekt logo claimning it was an false statement... but it was not. See the Polish version of the news: "W dniu 14 maja br. Raróg staje się podstawą nowej identyfikacji wizualnej studia [...]" SMiki55 (talk) 00:17, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- @SMiki55: My edit summary says "(rm false statement, based on misreading of the source)" . The statement of the band says that their logo is Northern Cardinal. The band quote further says:
"red color <...> we share with one more being: Rarog".(the stricken text is directly from Polish. English language version is even more blunt: "The colour, cardinal RED, is something that connects it with another bird <...>Rarog". I.e. that Rarog is logo is a fantasy of the author of the article. The logo itself has nothing to do with traditional visual representations of Rarog (of course, they are fantasies themselves :-). Staszek Lem (talk) 17:33, 20 February 2018 (UTC) - @SMiki55: IMHO I clearly wrote this is an (uneducated) opinion of the person who wrote the article, not of the band. The image is clearly NOT Rarog as everybody understands Rarog. Who do you think more reliable source: the article writer or the band themselves who clearly wrote another bird? I withdrawn my RfCs in part after reading your comment again. I still think there is a difference between sourced content and other content.[4] QuackGuru (talk) 17:57, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
You mentioned about the footnotes on the talk page. At least one of the footnotes added to the lead fails to verify the claim. I did explain on the talk page which sources and text fails verification. For example, the footnote for citation 10 states "...reported no clear evidence that screening for prostate cancer decreases the risk of death from prostate cancer...". That confirms the text fails verification and the other two sources also fail to verify the claim. There is another sentence in the lead that fails verification. But there is a much bigger problem. That sentence and others in the lead are not helpful and do not adequately summarize the body. My proposals summarizes the body and is verifiable. I don't edit different articles differently. For example, for the Everipedia article I added only one citation per claim. There are a few sentences in that article that have citations placed where they verify the claim rather than placing them all at the end of a sentence in accordance with Citation placement.
