Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Wikipedia. (For retitling files, categories and other items, see When not to use this page.)
Please read the article titling policy and the guideline regarding primary topics before moving a page or requesting a page move.
Any autoconfirmed user can use the Move function to perform most moves (see Help:How to move a page). If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:
- Technical reasons may prevent a move: a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. See: § Requesting technical moves.
- Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
- A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
- Unregistered users and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.
Requests are generally processed after seven days. If consensus is reached at or after this time, a reviewer will enact the request. If not, the request may be re-listed to allow more time for consensus to develop, or the discussion closed as "no consensus". See Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.
Wikipedia:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.
When not to use this page
Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
- Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Renaming a category – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming an image or other file – see Wikipedia:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
- Moves from draft namespace or user space to article space – Unconfirmed users: add
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the article. See Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Confirmed users: Move the page yourself. - Merging two articles – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge.
- Contesting a move request close – use the Wikipedia:Move review process.
Undiscussed moves
Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:
- No article exists at the new target title;
- There has been no discussion (especially no recent discussion) about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
- It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.
If you disagree with such a move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.
Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
Requesting technical moves
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct page if you tried to move a page, and you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:".
![]() If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

- To list a technical request: the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the top of the list, filling in pages and reason:
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new page title|reason=reason for move}}
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page. - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Technical requests
Uncontroversial technical requests
- Luke Browning (racing driver) → Luke Browning (currently a redirect to List of EastEnders characters (1987)) (move · ) – The current 'Luke Browning' page links to a specific year of EastEnders characters, one of which was named 'Luke Browning'. Now, an actual person named Luke Browning has a page, which generates around four times the amount of views as the the non-disambiguated page. It should have the basic page. Contested technical requests
- Surma people → Suri people (currently a redirect to Surma people) (move) – The proposed title is used in most of the article, and the current title is only used once in the article - in an external link. Should be changed to make the article title consistent throughout the article. InterstateFive (talk) - just another roadgeek 14:41, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi. Both names are used multiple times in the article. And there's a discussion (albeit very old) about it. I think this needs discussion. Dr. Vogel (talk) 15:25, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
- @InterstateFive: You have marked this as discuss=no in the request template, but it has been contested as more than just a technical request. This will be removed shortly unless you decide that you would prefer to take the RM discussion path. -2pou (talk) 17:55, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Requests to revert undiscussed moves
Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves
The discussion process is used for potentially controversial moves. A move is potentially controversial if either of the following applies:
- there has been any past debate about the best title for the page;
- someone could reasonably disagree with the move.
Use this process if there is any reason to believe a move would be contested. For technical move requests, such as to correct obvious typographical errors, see Requesting technical moves. The technical moves procedure can also be used for uncontroversial moves when the requested title is occupied by an existing article.
Do not create a new move request when one is already open on the same talk page. Instead, consider contributing to the open discussion if you would like to propose another alternative. Multiple closed move requests may be on the same page, but each should have a unique section heading.
Do not create a move request to rename one or more redirects. Redirects cannot be used as current titles in requested moves.
Requesting a single page move
To request a single page move, click on the "Add topic" tab of the talk page of the article you want moved, without adding a new subject/header, inserting this code:
{{subst:requested move|NewName|reason=Place here your rationale for the proposed page name change, ideally referring to applicable naming convention policies and guidelines, and providing evidence in support where appropriate. If your reasoning includes search engine results, please prioritize searches limited to reliable sources (e.g. books, news, scholarly papers) over other web results. You don't need to add your signature at the end, as this template will do so automatically.}}
Replace NewName
with the requested new name of the page (or with a simple question mark, if you want more than one possible new name to be considered). The template will automatically create the heading "Requested move 30 March 2022" and sign the post for you.
There is no need to edit the article in question. Once the above code is added to the Talk page, a bot will automatically add the following notification at the top of the affected page:
Note: Unlike other request processes on Wikipedia, such as Requests for comment, nominations need not be neutral. Make your point as best you can; use evidence (such as Google Ngrams and pageview statistics) and refer to applicable policies and guidelines, especially our article titling policy and the guideline on disambiguation and primary topics.
WikiProjects may subscribe to Article alerts to receive RM notifications. For example, Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Article alerts/Requested moves is transcluded to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography. RMCD bot notifies many of the other Wikiprojects listed on the talk page of the article to be moved to invite project members to participate in the RM discussion. Requesters should feel free to notify any other Wikiproject or noticeboard that might be interested in the move request, as long as this notification is neutral.
Single page move on a different talk page
Occasionally, a move request must be made on a talk page other than the talk page of the page to be moved. For example, a request to rename Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Resources to Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Reviewing and templates would need to take place at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation because the talk page of the project page to be moved, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation/Resources, is a redirect to that centralized discussion page. In this type of case, the requested move should be made using the following code:
{{subst:requested move|reason=(the reason for the page move goes here).|current1=(present title of page to be renamed)|new1=(proposed title of page)}}
Note that the |1=
unnamed parameter is not used, and that the |current1=
and |new1=
parameters are used similar to multiple page moves described below.
Requesting multiple page moves
A single template may be used to request multiple related moves. On one of the talk pages of the affected pages, create a request and format it as below. A sample request for three page moves is shown here (for two page moves, omit the lines for current3 and new3). For four page moves, add lines for current4 and new4, and so on. There is no technical limit on the number of multiple move requests, but before requesting very large multi-moves, consider whether a naming convention should be changed first. Discuss that change on the talk page for the naming convention, e.g., Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (sportspeople).
To request a multiple page move, edit at the bottom of the talk page of the article you chose for your request, without adding a new header, inserting this code:
{{subst:requested move
| current1 = Current title of page 1
| new1 = New title for page 1 with the talk page hosting this discussion
| current2 = Current title of page 2
| new2 = New title for page 2
| current3 = Current title of page 3
| new3 = New title for page 3
| reason = Place here your rationale for the proposed page name change, ideally referring to applicable naming convention policies and guidelines, and providing evidence in support where appropriate. If your reasoning includes search engine results, please prioritize searches limited to reliable sources (e.g. books, news, scholarly papers) over other web results. You don't need to add your signature at the end, as this template will do so automatically.
}}
For example, to propose moving the articles Wikipedia
and Wiki
, put this template on Talk:Wikipedia
, and replace current2
with Wiki
. The discussion for all affected articles is held on the talk page of the article at page 1 (Talk:Wikipedia
). Do not sign a request with ~~~~
as the template does this automatically. Do not skip pairs of numbers.
RMCD bot automatically places a notice section on the talk page of the additional pages that are included in your request, advising that the move discussion is in progress, where it is, and that all discussion for all pages included in the request should take place at that one location.
Occasionally the discussions for significant multi-move requests may be hosted on WikiProject talk pages or other pages in Project namespace. For multi-move discussions hosted on a page which is not itself proposed to be moved, specify |current1=Current title of page 1
for the first page to move.
Request all associated moves explicitly
Please list every move that you wish to have made in your request. For example, if you wish to move Cricket (disambiguation) to Cricket because you do not believe the sport is the primary topic for the search term "Cricket", then you actually want to move two pages, both Cricket (disambiguation) and Cricket. Thus you must list proposed titles for each page affected by your request. For example, you might propose:
If a new title is not proposed for the sport, it is more difficult to achieve consensus for a new title for that article. A move request that does not show what to do with the material at its proposed target, such as:
is incomplete. Such requests may be completed as a request to decide the best new title by discussion.

Commenting on a requested move
All editors are welcome to contribute to the discussion regarding a requested page move. There are a number of standards that Wikipedians should practice in such discussions:
- When editors recommend a course of action, they write Support or Oppose in bold text, which is done by surrounding the word with three single quotes on each side, e.g.
'''Support'''
. - Comments or recommendations are added on a new bulleted line (that is, starting with *) and signed by adding
~~~~
to the end. Responses to another editor are threaded and indented using multiple bullets. - The article itself should be reviewed before any recommendation is made; do not base recommendations solely on the information supplied by other editors. It may also help to look at the article's edit history. However, please read the earlier comments and recommendations, as well as prior move requests. They may contain relevant arguments and useful information.
- Vested interests in the article should be disclosed per Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI.
When participating, please consider the following:
- Editors should make themselves familiar with the article titling policy at Wikipedia:Article titles.
- Other important guidelines that set forth community norms for article titles include Wikipedia:Disambiguation, specific naming conventions, and the manual of style.
- The debate is not a vote; please do not make recommendations that are not sustained by arguments.
- Explain how the proposed article title meets or contravenes policy and guidelines rather than merely stating that it does so.
- Nomination already implies that the nominator supports the name change, and nominators should refrain from repeating this recommendation on a separate bulleted line.[a]
- Do not make conflicting recommendations. If you change your mind, use strike-through to retract your previous statement by enclosing it between <s> and </s> after the bullets, and de-bold the struck words, as in "•
SupportOppose".
Please remember that reasonable editors will sometimes disagree, but that arguments based in policy, guidelines, and evidence have more weight than unsupported statements. When an editor offers an argument that does not explain how the move request is consistent with policies and guidelines, a reminder to engage in constructive, on-topic discussion may be useful. On the other hand, a pattern of responding to requests with groundless opinion, proof by assertion, and ignoring content guidelines may become disruptive. If a pattern of disruptive behavior persists after efforts are made to correct the situation through dialogue, please consider using a dispute resolution process.
Closing a requested move
Any uninvolved editor in good standing may close a move request. Please read the closing instructions for information on how to close a move request. The Simple guide to closing RM discussions details how to actually close a requested move discussion.
Relisting a requested move
Relisting a discussion moves the request out of the backlog up to the current day in order to encourage further input. The decision to relist a discussion is best left to uninvolved experienced editors upon considering, but declining, to close the discussion. In general, discussions should not be relisted more than once before properly closing.[b] Users relisting a debate which has already been relisted, or relisting a debate with a substantial discussion, should write a short explanation on why they did not consider the debate sufficient to close. While there is no consensus forbidding participation in a requested move discussion after relisting it, many editors consider it an inadvisable form of supervote. If you want to relist a discussion and then participate in it, be prepared to explain why you think it was appropriate.
Relisting should be done using {{subst:relisting}}
, which automatically includes the relister's signature, and which must be placed at the very end of the initial request after the move requester's signature (and subsequent relisters' signatures).
When a relisted discussion reaches a resolution, it may be closed at any time according to the closing instructions; there is no required length of time to wait before closing a relisted discussion.
If discussion has become stale, or it seems that discussion would benefit from more input of editors versed in the subject area, consider more widely publicizing the discussion, such as by notifying WikiProjects of the discussion using the template {{RM notification}}. Banners placed at the top of the talk page hosting the move request can often be used to identify WikiProjects suitable for notification.
Notes
- ^ A nominator making a procedural nomination with which they may not agree is free to add a bulleted line explaining their actual position. Additional detail, such as sources, may also be provided in an additional bullet point if its inclusion in the nomination statement would make the statement unwieldy. Please remember that the entire nomination statement is transcluded into the list on this page.
- ^ Despite this, discussions are occasionally relisted more than once.
Current discussions
- This section lists all requests filed or identified as potentially controversial which are currently under discussion.
This list is also available in a page-link-first format and in table format. 118 discussions have been relisted.
- (Discuss) – Samuel H. Huntington → Samuel Huntington (Ohio politician) – per WP:COMMONNAME and WP:TITLEDAB. Most credible sources, historical and recent, seem to refer to the Ohio governor as simply "Samuel Huntington"[1][2][3][4][5][6] or, less frequently, "Samuel Huntington Jr.,"[7][8] although from what I've seen the "Jr." isn't a common enough alternative to be used as natural disambiguation. I have reason to believe this article has been misnamed "Samuel H. Huntington" (with a fictitious middle initial) since it was first created in 2004, and the error has since propagated widely throughout the internet in self-published/user-generated sites (e.g. genealogy websites and sites that mirror or draw from Wikipedia), and even seeped into some borderline reliable sources (e.g. government websites and printed books from academic publishers). No middle name or initial is found on his gravestone (photo), nor any primary documents in FamilySearch (registration required). It's possible that some web sites misnamed the Governor at the time of this article creation and have since been corrected, but a Google search by time fails to find any semi-reliable mention of him as "Samuel H. Huntington" until roughly 2008 in an OhioLink finding aid repository. A Google Books search of pre-2004 works finds some false-positive mentions of a 'Samuel H. Huntington' in Ohio/Connecticut law or politics, but from times after the death of the 3rd Ohio Governor. A Governor named "Samuel H. Huntington" in Google Books is only found in works published after 2004, and often in passing, for example:[9][10][11][12][13] Rather than boldly move this title on my own, I want to invite others who may have more insight to weigh in (perhaps he really does have a middle name), and use this as an opportunity to reflect on how Wikipedia may originate or amplify unchecked errors that subsequently pollute the information ecosystem (e.g. "citogenesis"), hindering accurate presentation of the past and clouding future efforts to evaluate sources. --Animalparty! - (Discuss) – Royal Consort Gwiin Jo → ? – Gwi-in means Consort so the current title is equivalent to Royal Consort Royal Consort Jo. It's also not found in any reliable sources. - (Discuss) – Aura (paranormal) → Aura – Primary topic by both pageviews and longterm significance. According to views, the symptom is the only thing that even gets close to the views of the paranormal/spiritual topic, and the name of the symptom is clearly based on the paranormal occurrence/fictional concept (it is about seeing "auras" in front of things like the supposed energy field). The mythological goddess might be able to compete for longterm significance, but is only a minor goddess. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 19:54, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – George Ducas (singer) → George Ducas – While the page views and inbound links are equal, most hits for the prince seem to come from the fact that he's linked in an infobox. He is mentioned relatively few times in the prose of other articles. The singer, by comparison, has multiple inbound links from songs and albums on which he has participated, and has an ongoing career to boot. Given how close it is, I suggest either a.) making the singer the primary topic of the name "George Ducas", or b.) making "George Ducas" a disambiguation page between the two. The only other articles in this page's category, Category:Free and open-source software licenses, which use the spelling "licence" are three pages named for specific "Licence"s created in the U.K., whereas the generic lower-case word has been spelled consistently as "license" in all article titles. - (Discuss) – Schutzstaffel → SS – We currently have SS as a redirect to this page, though the WP:COMMONNAME among both academic and popular literature appears to be "SS". Searching Google Scholar, we see nearly 18x greater results for the search "SS Nazi" than we see for "Schutzstaffel". With respect to the WP:CRITERIA: #The proposed title is more recognizable than the current title for someone familiar with, although not necessarily an expert in, the topic. More English speakers familiar with Nazi Germany will recognize the term "SS" than the term "Schutzstaffel". #The proposed title is more natural than the current title; that is, the title is one that readers are more likely to look or search for and that editors would naturally use to link to the article from other articles. It conveys what the group is usually called in English. #Both the proposed title and current title are precise, since they refers to this particular Nazi group. #The proposed title is more concise than the current title, though both are concise. #There is no topic-specific naming convention for Nazi paramilitary groups, as far as I can find, though subdivisions of the SS tend to use "SS" in their title rather than Schutzstaffel. In light of this, the WP:COMMONNAME of the group (SS) appears to be a superior title to the current title. I therefore propose that this page be moved. — Mhawk10 (talk) 20:34, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Malik Taylor (American football) → Malik Taylor – This was briefly discussed on Talk:Malik Taylor (disambiguation) last year. There was some consensus the football player should take the redirect. I agree with that. Phife Dawg isn't well known as "Malik Taylor", and the football player occupies the vast majority of prominence for "Malik Taylor", as can be seen from Googling, and the pageviews for Malik Taylor redirect are much smaller than Malik Taylor (American football). Also, I think Malik Taylor (disambiguation) should be deleted. A hatnote is good enough. --Quiz shows 18:07, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Jomboy (sports media personality) → Jomboy – Two and a half years after Jimmy "Jomboy" O'Brien became a well-known persona in sports media with his video on the Houston Astros sign stealing scandal, I think it's safe to say that he has become the primary topic for the word "Jomboy" in English, as borne out by Google and Google News searches. The city in Uzbekistan has a population of 11,000, and even the Uzbek Wikipedia only has a few paragraphs' worth of content on it. Only 82 people visited the city article in February, and of those 82 at least 36 clicked through to Jomboy O'Brien. You can see here the massive surge of views the city article got during the Astros scandal, and how it never died back down. There were only a few months prior to the Astros video that the city got more pageviews than it's gotten the past few months, and even then, Jomboy O'Brien was still a well-known baseball personality at that time. If you go back before June of 2018, the city consistently got 50-75 views per month, keeping in mind that at most 46 people visiting the article this past month were actually looking for it (probably considerably less considering some people just don't click navigation links). If there isn't consensus for this, I would suggest still moving the city article and making Jomboy a DAB, and also perhaps giving O'Brien a more concise title... either Jomboy (entertainer) or Jimmy "Jomboy" O'Brien. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 13:53, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
For instance, Google Scholar finds only 145 results for "suprangular" and 5,590 for "surangular", and the Google Ngrams graph shows use of "suprangular" to be essentially negligible. Suprangular isn't even the second-most common spelling. It's fourth, behind "supra-angular" and "supraangular". I don't know if I've ever seen the spelling "suprangular" used before today, and I consider myself reasonably well-read on the subject of vertebrate osteology. - (Discuss) – Prayer bump → Zabiba – (AND rename the current Zabiba page "Zabiba (disambiguation)" for the purpose of disambiguation redirects) - the reason being that "prayer bump" is not clearly the common name for this subject, by a long shot.In fact, "prayer bump" is not used in a single one of the sources actually referenced by the article. Though we're not talking very decisive numbers, Google scholar also produces 104 hits for zabiba or its alternative spellings to just 39 hits for prayer bump (in many cases as a bracketed explanation after the term zabiba/zebiba/zebibah is used). In terms of the choice of spelling, while it's a bit of a toss up between the different spellings, zabiba is the most straightforward Arabic transliteration, so makes sense to use by default. Ngram, while it might snare some other uses of the term (such as sources using Zabiba as an alternative spelling of the historic queen Zabibe), also presses this spelling and all but kicks the other two into the long grass. They all use the same naming convention of <city> <state or country> Temple. They all fail WP:PRECISION. The titles need something to distinguish what kind of temple they are. See for example the disambiguation page Chicago temple and the various types of temples in that city. Each one has an unambiguous title, but the Chicago Illinois Temple seems to only lack disambiguation because someone chose to include the state in the title. The acceptable options I see are Chicago Illinois Mormon Temple, Chicago Mormon Temple, Chicago Illinois LDS Temple, or Chicago LDS Temple. - (Discuss) – US Senate career of Huey Long → United States Senate career of Huey Long – @GoodDay:; @SnowFire:; @SMcCandlish:; @FOARP:; @ModernDayTrilobite: There are numerous problems with titling a page "US Senate career of [politician]". First of all, "US" is not American English, so if the title were to be abbreviated, it would need to be "U.S. Senate career of". This would be consistent with the titles of other articles concerning American subjects, such as U.S. Routes or independent agencies of the United States government. However, it also does not make much sense to abbreviate the title in the first place. The page "United States Senate" is not abbreviated as "U.S. Senate", nor "United States" as "U.S.", and neither should these articles. State senate articles, such as Illinois Senate career of Barack Obama, are not titled "I.L. Senate career of Barack Obama", so I don't see why U.S. Senate articles should be. Also, I noticed that the article United States Senate career of Barack Obama was not moved, although that could be due to the editors not being aware that the article existed. In any case, I would strongly support a move back to the original titles. -- Politicsfan4 (talk) 17:16, 18 March 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. ---CX Zoom(he/him) (let's talk|contribs) 20:24, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Russo-Ukrainian wars → List of wars between Russia and Ukraine – Following the closure of a recent AfD as no consensus, I think it is time to discuss what to do with this article. The present title is less than clear. If this article is going to be kept, it makes sense that the title make clear that it is a list of wars between Russia and Ukraine. None of these wars, other than the most recent one, are usually called 'Russo-Ukrainian War', and hence the present title is at least somewhat misleading, and potentially a gateway to an WP:OR historiography. One user proposed the title List of wars between Russia and Ukraine in the deletion discussion, and thus, I shall propose it here. This is an analogue to articles like List of wars between Russia and Sweden. RGloucester — ☎ 17:13, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Feminist stripper → Feminist views on striptease – To align this article with Striptease, Feminist views on prostitution and Feminist views on pornography. As with any other type of sex work, there are two main feminist viewpoints towards the act of striptease or strippers. One viewpoint supports strippers who view their profession as a choice and a career field; the other viewpoint thinks that striptease is inherently exploitative towards women. Currently, the first half of this article discusses the former viewpoint, whereas the second half discusses the latter viewpoint. Renaming this article allows the title to properly reflect the article's scope and topic. feminist (talk) Слава Україні! 14:54, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Independent legal reasoning in Islamic law → Ijtihad – Ijtihad absolutely dwarves the use of the convoluted term "Independent legal reasoning" in English-language scholarly literature about the subject. "Indendent legal reasoning" + "Islam" gets about 700 Google Scholar hits; ijtihad gets 41,000. Almost all the terms in Islam on the periphery of ijtihad are already named in naturalised phonetic English, such as taqlid, jihad, etc. Ijtihad is a big enough concept in Islam to be treated in the same manner, just as it is in scholarly sources. Even independent of this, there would be a case for the change based on pure consistency, as ijitihad also blows away terms like taqlid in terms of usage. See taqlid on Google Scholar (just over a third the ijtihad tally) and Ngram. Iskandar323 (talk) 18:02, 18 March 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 21:10, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – The Warriors (film) → The Warriors – Prior to the recent move discussion I initiated on The Exorcist, which ended with the "(film)" being dropped from the title as the 1973 movie is clearly the primary topic, I looked around for support to other filmed adaptations from 40-50 years ago that have clearly displaced the novels on which they were based. From around 1979-1980, I saw that Being There and Ordinary People recognize in their titling that the film is the PRIMARYTOPIC. But, astoundingly, this one does not, despite Yurick's novel having been so eclipsed by the film that there are a great deal of people today who aren't even aware there was ever a book 14 years earlier. Our own pageviews show that the film article gets 12 times as many views on an average day as the novel article. And I won't even get into the Jakes novel or the video game. None of the other title possibilities really get involved, as they have built-in disambiguation. The film is clearly the primary topic here. Daniel Case (talk) 18:37, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Jesuit reduction → Jesuit missions among the Guaraní – First, the word "reduction" is unfamiliar to most English-language readers and is almost always used in the plural and is used in the plural in the text of this article. "Missions" is a more common word than "reduction" or "reductions." Secondly, the title is misleading as it implies a world-wide coverage of the topic, but more than 95 percent of this article is about the Jesuit missions among the Guaraní people in Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina. A brief mention is made of similar Jesuit reductions in Bolivia, but no mention at all is made of the Jesuit reductions in several other Latin American countries. Thus, the present title does not cover the whole scope of Jesuit reductions. Third, the Spanish language wikipedia article on this subject is titled Misiones jesuíticas guaraníes which translates as "Jesuit Guaraní missions." I would prefer following the Spanish model with an English title of "Jesuit missions among the Guaraní." Smallchief (talk) 10:31, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Milošević (surname) → Milošević – I've tried to discuss this previously at Talk:Milošević#primary topic?, but nobody seems to have cared enough to respond, instead people just occasionally came in and asserted a contrary position without much of a rationale, sigh. The basic contention for the other side seems rather obvious - the Serbian president who became infamous in the 1990s is the primary topic, e.g. if we just look at https://pageviews.wmcloud.org/massviews/?platform=all-access&agent=user&source=wikilinks&range=latest-20&sort=views&direction=1&view=list&target=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milo%C5%A1evi%C4%87%20(surname) where we can see that they are way up there on top of the list (disregarding the cruft). However, he still had a very generic Serbian surname, and he doesn't necessarily have that much of an edge in long-term significance compared to all the other holders of this common Serbian surname. If we look at the analysis of traffic coming to these terms (Milošević and Milosevic) compared to Slobodan Milošević, at e.g. https://pageviews.wmcloud.org/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&redirects=0&start=2018-07-01&end=2022-03-24&pages=Milosevic%7CMilo%C5%A1evi%C4%87%7CMilo%C5%A1evi%C4%87_(surname) the graphs are still all over the place, but clearly the level of interest seems to be entirely equivalent. More recently there's a spike, probably because of another war in eastern Europe where people mention Slobodan Milošević more - that too will pass, though. That's why I'd continue to advocate the position that using the anthroponymy article as the navigational aid here is appropriate, because, simply put, I don't see any value in short-circuiting navigation for the reader - I don't see how anyone who strongly associates the term Milošević with Slobodan Milošević would ever not be served well with his listing on the surname article, which is a very straightforward concept. (Who is this reader who would be really unhappy that they were forced to open a page with a modicum amount of info about a surname while navigating to a surname holder? It's almost as if the purpose of an encyclopedia is to have people learn things!) --Joy [shallot] (talk) 06:54, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
As noted in one of the previous discussions, Hollywood, Los Angeles, is described in some sources as a "District", and there are also others on the disambiguation page. I do not believe that throwing an ambiguous term like "District" after an already-ambiguous place name is sufficient disambiguation. - (Discuss) – Black and Tan → Black and tan – "Black and tan" is not a proper noun in this context and does not need capitals. I'm assuming they're there because of the false belief that the drink's name derives from the Black and Tans; in actual fact, it predates the formation of the RIC Reserves by at least forty years, and simply refers to the contrasting colours of stout and ale. - (Discuss) – Ministry of Environment, Foresty and Tourism (Namibia) → Ministry of Environment and Tourism (Namibia) – The title has a spelling mistake ('Foresty) and needs to be moved anyway. I would suggest to move it to the more general title, without the forestry, because some portfolios are forever moved around in the Namibian government. Forestry in particular has been existant only from 1995, became part of Agriculture, and only moved to the environment ministry in 2020. This would align with other government ministries, for instance Ministry of Labour (Namibia) which currently is called Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation. I also need technical help, as the move target is a redirect. Pgallert (talk) 10:12, 24 March 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Imprisoned with the Pharaohs → Under the Pyramids – This article was moved without consensus in 2014, after it was listed as a good article. Almost all of the sources listed in the article primarily use the old title to describe the text. Both of the sources in the further reading section do the same. I searched for additional sources on JSTOR and found that "Under the Pyramids" returns more results than "Imprisoned with the Pharaohs" does. Several of the results for "Imprisoned with the Pharaohs" mention it as an alternative title. Furthermore, most of the recent publications appear to use Lovecraft's original title. ―Susmuffin Talk 07:45, 17 March 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. signed, 511KeV (talk) 08:40, 24 March 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Abdullah ibn Muhammad al-Umawi → Abdallah of Córdoba – English sources generally spell the name "Abdallah" or "Abd Allah" rather than "Abdullah (example sources listed below). I have no feelings about whether the space should be present after "Abd", but I assume people are more used to the name without a space. Some other notes: We could move the page to "Abdallah ibn Muhammad", which currently redirects here, but that name is easily shared by other persons. The "al-Umawi" in the current title is simply Arabic for "the Umayyad"; rather than have a basically Arabic disambiguator, the "of Córdoba" is a more understandable English disambiguator and is also consistent with the title format of other articles about Umayyad emirs (e.g. Muhammad I of Córdoba, Hisham I of Córdoba, etc). - (Discuss) – Mýa → Mya (singer) – "Mýa" with an added acute accent is a stylized presentation of her stage name, along the lines of KoЯn, SAni†Y, Spın̈al Tap or BORДT, whose Wikipedia articles are titled Korn, Sanity, Spinal Tap and Borat respectively. I'm strongly supportive of Wikipedia getting the diacritics right where they are part of a word or name, but in this case, the ý (used in a few languages, but not any connected to Mya) is not a part of the spelling, any more than the Cyrillic letter Я is part of the spelling of Korn, the letter Д part of the spelling of Borat, or the † symbol part of the spelling of Sanity. Furthermore, her own website gives her name as "Mya Marie Harrison" without the ý, mostly reserving use of that letter to logos and graphic design, again forms of stylised text where other conventions are adopted such as all caps, which do not determine the spelling of article titles. The news page on her website calls her "Mya" without the ý when using her stage mononym in text copy. We should note the version with the acute accent in the opening sentence, as we do for the other examples I've given, and then correct the spelling of her name throughout to "Mya". - (Discuss) – Cam River (Canterbury) → Cam River / Ruataniwha – In December last year, a move request saw several articles relating to New Zealand places which have dual names move to said dual name as a form of natural disambiguation. Following that move, this request proposes moving other articles for which the dual name would be a more natural and preferable form of disambiguation. All of the proposed moves: #have a dual name as recorded in the NZGB Gazetteer, but their article is not at the dual place name #have a current title which requires disambiguation, and are not the primary topic for that title #would have a title of equal or shorter length by using the dual name, per WP:CONCISE. I believe that, given the above criteria, the proposed moves make for a much better form of disambiguation and for clearer names overall. Some of the above names have further cases for use of the dual name (such as consistency with linked places, as with Pigeon Island / Wāwāhi Waka being at a dual name with the neighbouring Pig Island / Mātau), but I believe each of the above stands on their own merit even aside from these cases. - (Discuss) – Left Youth (Italy) → Sinistra Giovanile – or Youth Left (Italy). There is no trace of the usage of the English word in literature (actually the whole article is based on a single source in Italian). Even if we wanted to make up a translation into English, then definitely sinistra giovanile translated more into "youth left" or "juvenile left", rather than "left youth" (that would be gioventù di sinistra). - (Discuss) – Saint Peter's Peacocks and Peahens → Saint Peter's Peacocks – (Added Mar 20) The women's athletic teams at Saint Peter's University have used the Peacocks moniker as well since 2013. That August, a move was made by The Ink Daddy! but was reverted four months later by Jrcla2. It is standard for these article titles to be updated in this instance. A perusal of the SPU athletics website shows no mention of Peahens in any recent year; indeed, the women's basketball players wear "Peacocks" jerseys. The name is not mentioned in the athletics style guide which was revised after a major rebrand effort in 2020 ([22]). I believe this undiscussed reversion from years ago is actually causing reliable sources to print Peahens as a name years after its discontinuation by the university. A March 4, 2022, Times Herald-Record article used the name Peahens (republished by Yahoo at [23]), and I see a few other scattered stories that are using this name incorrectly in recent years. In 2014, The Statesman, the student newspaper at SUNY Stony Brook, had to print a correction about the name:
A previous version referred to the Saint Peter’s women’s basketball team as the “Saint Peter’s Peahens.” The team is known as the “Saint Peter’s Peacocks.”
The university's athletics style guide does not even mention the name, and publications from their own sports information department do not use it ([24]). We need to do likewise. - (Discuss) – Coombe Hill, East Sussex → Combe Hill – Reliable sources are divided between "Coombe Hill" and "Combe Hill"; a Google Books search shows a slight preference among recent works for "Combe Hill". In addition, the hill is primarily known for the archaeological site on it, which is almost always spelled "Combe Hill" in the sources that discuss it. Examples include Hadrian Allcroft (1908) Earthwork of England; both excavation reports, in Sussex Archaeological Collections (1950 and 1994), titled "An Excavation at Combe Hill Camp Near Eastbourne August 1949" and "Dr V. Seton Williams' excavations at Combe Hill, 1962, and the role of Neolithic causewayed enclosures in Sussex"; Curwen (1954) The Archaeology of Sussex; Oswald et al.'s The Creation of Monuments (2001), a survey of all British causewayed enclosures, and Whittle et al. - (Discuss) – 2022 Chernihiv bombing → 2022 Chernihiv bombing on civilians – I think this article needs a new title. There is a whole battle going on in Chernihiv. It's clear that the city has been bombed a lot. But this article seems to exclusively refer to the 3 March bombing that killed 47 people. However, the title does not exactly reflect that. It is titled as if it covered every single bombing that happened on the city in 2022, when such is not the case. We can take example of other articles with unorthodox titles such as NATO bombing of Albanian refugees near Gjakova and propose a new one. "2022 Chernihiv bombing on civilians" is not perfect as probably more civilians have died in the city as a result of bombings but I think it'd get us closer to a satisfactory option. Adding "3 March" into the title is probably not preferred so other options could be "2022 Chernihiv residential area bombing" or "2022 bombing of a residential area in Chernihiv", and "2022 Vacheslava Chornovola and Kruhova streets bombing" (probably a bad option). We could also follow French Wikipedia's steps and title it as a massacre. Although there was another murder of civilians in Chernihiv yesterday so maybe we shouldn't chose this option. - (Discuss) – Wahhabism → Muwahhidun (Wahhabi) – using the exonym "Wahhabism" alone is quite misleading in this article since the term may mislead many people in conflating the movement with a wide swathe of religious groups of seperate origins that shares common doctrines. Sometimes, conservative movements with opposing doctrines are also used to denote "Wahhabism". Hence I suggest that this article title should be more precise to denote the Arabian regional movement descended from Ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab and his students. And this is why I suggested the title Muwahhidun (Wahhabi), since: * There are multiple Muwahhidun movements historically * There are multiple movements getting referred to as "Wahhabi" * A seperate article is needed to for the term Wahhabi, which is different from the movement of Muwahhdin-Wahhabi Hence the title Muwahhidin(Wahhabi) shall be more precise, accurate and less confusing. Moroever, the existing links of "Wahhabism" shall always lead to here; since it automatically redirects here. Meanwhile "Wahhabi" when used as a pejoritave epithet or to denote other movements not descended from Ibn Abd al-Wahhab, someone needs to create a seperate article for the label and its etymology. - (Discuss) – Challenger di Roseto degli Abruzzi → Internazionali di Tennis - Regione Abruzzo – Even if i am not entirely sure of this title change i don't feel comfortable with the actual one, using the preposition "di". Usually these types of titles don't match the official titles, and are shortchanges for longer titles. My rationale for the change of title is that the regional Tennis Federation, and in this article, this one, and this too, is used the proposed title. We already have a tradition of "Internazionali di tennis - Città di XXXXX" with the name of the italian city (Todi, Perugia, Forlì, etc..) where the ATP Challenger is played, and we have a prominent precedent for the title abovementioned in Internazionali di Tennis del Friuli Venezia Giulia with the name of the region instead of that of the city (Cordenons). I am aware the name on the official draw pdf is "Regione Abruzzo Aterno Gas & Power Cup" which is composed of the region name plus the sponsor name, but i recall there is already consensus on not using sponsor names on the main page of tournaments. Still I am not, i repeat, entirely sure we should make this move. I am ok with changing the title into "Roseto degli Abruzzi Challenger" or "Challenger Roseto degli Abruzzi" if you don't agree on the proposed one. 87.20.107.44 (talk) 12:26, 7 March 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. Yes, the UN charter refers to the use of force, but "use of force by states" could also refer to many domestic state actions, such as for example arrests, deportation, police brutality, etc. A synonym for use of force in international law is act of aggression or armed attack (see Sayapin, Sergey (2014). - (Discuss) – Leonese dialect → Leonese language – Leonese, along Asturian (titled as a language on Wikipedia), Mirandese (also titled as a language) and Extremaduran (same here), are all part of the same language: Asturleonese. However, they are not dialects, at least not Asturian and Leonese, see maps on the actual dialects of Asturleonese we have on Commons here: [28] [29] [30]. The situation of the Asturleonese variants could be compared to that of the Serbo-Croatian ones: Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian and Montenegrin are not dialects of a same language, but different standardized versions of the same language, which do not correspond to the dialectal split of Serbo-Croatian [31]. Similarily, Asturian is only the Asturleonese spoken in Asturias, Leonese is the Asturleonese spoken in the region of León, and so on (although I am not sure if the Asturleonese variants have been standardized, probably not). I'd say it is better to have consistency among articles, since there's no reason that we label Asturian, Mirandese and Extremaduran as languages but Leonese as a dialect. Another option could be something like "Leonese variants of Asturleonese" or "Leonese Asturleonese", but that's probably not very widely used on Wikipedia. - (Discuss) – KiKi KaiKai → ? – Should this page be moved? English sources seem to disagree on what this game is titled. While they mostly agree to write it as two distinct words, they are split on capitalizing the middle Ks (KiKi KaiKai) or not (Kiki Kaikai). Normally in Japanese transcriptions, you don't capitalize letters mid-word unless it was an official stylization. I decided to do some research. Since this game was originally published only in Japanese (奇々怪界), I searched to find times it was officially published in English to see what it was titled. Here are the results: *Ki-Ki-Kai-Kai (Mobile, 2003) [32] *Ki Ki Kai Kai (Taito Legends 2, 2006) [33] *Ki Ki Kai Kai (Taito Legends Power-Up, 2006) [34] *KIKI KAIKAI (Arcade Archives, 2020) [35] though Hamster writes every game title in all capitals. Surprisingly, the game was almost always published as four distinct words! The problem is almost no sources currently write it like that (WP:COMMONNAME). But since it's a creative work, shouldn't we go with the title given by its creator? Interestingly, Heavenly Guardian, which was originally a planned 2008 sequel until it was rebranded, was originally titled Kiki KaiKai 2 (only one midword capital K) [36]. Great, as if we needed more confusion. Well anyways, I'm not sure what to go with: *A: KiKi KaiKai (current name) *B: Ki Ki Kai Kai (most common officially published English title) *C: Kiki Kaikai (commonname preferred two word split, but stylization removed) *D: Kiki KaiKai (used for planned 2008 sequel) Thoughts?
