Hi, it appeared to me like you did a lot of the work in planning how to recognize the Apollo 11 anniversary this week, and I wanted to make sure you saw a compliment from a reader on WP:VPM. For good and thoughtful comments during a RM discussion. NickCT (talk) 02:57, 18 January 2020 (UTC) |
Hey bud, quick note to let you know I was impressed by the move discussion you raised here. It's sorta fascinating how controversial "Death of..." article title moves can be, even when the logic seems obvious. Perhaps all the controversy that surrounds these talks reflects the emotion that surrounds the subject of death and dying. Don't get discouraged if the RM doesn't work. Emotion often trumps reason over the short term. But in the end, the truth will out. NickCT (talk) 02:57, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
- NickCT, I thank you for the kind words. These discussions are difficult but I believe they are important. It is crucial that we question our own preconceptions; objectivity and NPOV are paramount. I always ask myself, what would an alien species who speak perfect English but have no emotions give as the title of this subject? I like to say that we are all biased and we must actively fight that bias. --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 06:24, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

Tidying up some unused templates
Hi there! A small group of editors is working on tidying up Template space, focusing on templates that have no transclusions and appear to be abandoned or otherwise not useful. I came across these nine pages on a report, and I wonder if you have any use for them. If not, you can place {{Db-author}} on each page to have them speedily deleted, or I can run them through the normal Templates for Discussion process. – Jonesey95 (talk) 07:16, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
- Done. thanks! --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 07:25, 15 November 2021 (UTC)

I have nominated Sasha (DJ) for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Hog Farm Talk 17:29, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
native_name on infobox
Hi.. two years ago, you put closure on this RfC. Just want to clarify something on that closure. Does it means the usage of native script (non latin script) on native_name parameter is allowed? Thank you. Ckfasdf (talk) 13:06, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Ckfasdf: Yes, and may be even generally encouraged unless there is a consensus not to do so reached on the talk page of the article for reasons not mentioned in the closing note. --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 17:44, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Coffeeandcrumbs: Thank you.. That's what I thought as well. The reason I ask is because I have disagreement (again) with other editor regarding that matter, and he seems to disregard that consensus. Ckfasdf (talk) 22:53, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Ckfasdf: I see that, looking at your contributions recently. By someone who was participated in the discussion. If it happening repeatedly, you should first bring that to the attention of the person on their talk page and if that does not work, post at WP:ANI. --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 03:28, 22 November 2021 (UTC)

Hello, Coffeeandcrumbs,
This looks ready to submit to AFC but it's an expiring draft. Did you want to continue to work on it? You should have received a notice in November from Firefly Bot about its nearing CSD G13 status. Liz Read! Talk! 03:29, 22 December 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Reaper (Van Gogh series)
![]() | On 11 January 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Reaper (Van Gogh series), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the first painting (pictured) in Vincent van Gogh's 1889 series Reaper may have been gifted to his contemporary artist Paul Gauguin? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Reaper (Van Gogh series). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Reaper (Van Gogh series)), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

I am confused about how to tell if a specific FP has been POTD
I was curious to see if my photo (File:Gateway_Generating_Station_rectified.jpg) had ever been a picture of the day. Per the Commons categories, it doesn't appear to have. So I figured maybe it would be in Category:Featured pictures that have not appeared on the Main Page... but this is an en-wiki category, so I don't think the file could be in there. Is there a way to tell whether not a photo has been POTD before? (And, of course, if this hasn't been, is there a nomination process?) jp×g 07:15, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
- That files has not been featured on the Main Page. It is in Category:Featured pictures that have not appeared on the Main Page. While this category is en-wiki, it tracks Commons files. Featured pictures have a local en-wiki description page: File:Gateway Generating Station rectified.jpg. It is dutifully created by User:Armbrust when they close the FP nomination as successful. That automatically adds the FP to the category. When the page becomes POTD, a bot adds {{Picture of the day}}. Because of the functionality of {{Featured picture}}, adding {{Picture of the day}}, removes the file from the category.
- tl;dr: everything is working as it should. the file is the category. --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 15:15, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
- @JPxG:, as for the selection process, it usually follows the principle of "first come, first serve". Meaning FP that are older are made POTD first. We are currently doing FP that were awarded in late 2019. However, POTD are completely at the discretion of the editors working in the area. Currently that is mostly, Cwmhiraeth and Amakuru. Most FPs are of birds, bank notes, and U.S. presidents and coat of arms. There is not much variety. I think Amakuru and Cwmhiraeth may appreciate the uniqueness of this photo and want to use it sooner than later. --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 15:39, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
- And the article is a GA too: Gateway Generating Station. --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 15:41, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
- Well it is a relatively recent picture, but it will provide variety so I will list it to appear soon and you will get a notification on your talk page of when that may happen. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:50, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
