Tommy Robinson
I have changed a recent addition to the notable persons list and the editor has asked for further explanation. (See here [1]) There were too many citations: one is enough for a linked name in this section, not four. The man is notable for being an activist, not for being a prisoner. At least one cite was unreliable, ie the Sun. The editor has only had half a dozen edits, all about this man. The cites given all cover a very recent event so are questionably recentism. The man is known mainly by the name Tommy Robinson, as in his own wiki page, not by the name used to add him to the notable people list. Also, I did not remove the added person, I merely improved the editing used to add him to the list. Roger 8 Roger (talk) 09:15, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
To-do list
Couple of things I want to look at when I come back to this:
- The history of luton section is bigger than the subarticle it referenecs
- I'm really unsure if Wikipedia normally has lists of people 'associated with' a town. Or a list of local attractions.
- There a massive amount of unsourced content that I think needs replacing with some well sourced content rather than replacing entirely. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joereddington (talk • contribs) 19:42, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
- Did the history today. I've also been thought all (I think) the cities here: [[2]], and none of them have a similar 'big blue list of names' (indeed, the FA for Bristol specifically complains about lots of names in the text body) With that in mind I'm going to boldly remove them. Joe (talk) 19:32, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
Laundry list.
For general conversation: this edit [3] caught my attention and I've removed the content. (it reads a bit like someone did a Google news search for 'Luton and terrorism' and then entered all the articles. Opinions will probably differ, but I thought it was very much WP:undue. Would appreciate any second opinions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joereddington (talk • contribs) 15:14, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for starting this discussion, I was going to say something similar myself. I agree it looks like an anti-islam rant, and that seems possible given the regular edits from fans of a certain infamous far right Lutonian. That and the negative attention Luton sadly gets due to its demographics and history makes me wary. On the other hand, User:Yaakovaryeh said it "included content originally added by an admin in 2011", but I haven't looked into it enough.
- Regardless of where it came from, I was planning on putting that content into an "Extremism" subsubsection, trim it a lot by removing the repetition and less notable parts, and try to add some sentences providing some opposing views of the community in Luton to provide some balance. A sort of compromise, but maybe it's not appropriate at all and I was just glad to have some more content, which would probably be better coming from the other sections I'm planning on adding to. I'll have a read of some other similar UK town articles to compare what they do. -- odg (talk) 23:27, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
- Agreed. The majority does not belong here. The original part I was referring to is here [4] which I think does belong. Perhaps some of the other stuff should go to Terrorism in the United Kingdom &/ Islamism in the United Kingdom? Yaakovaryeh (talk) 02:39, 29 March 2019 (UTC)
WikiProject page
To try to be a bit more organised, I made a subpage in the Bedfordshire WikiProject here, if anyone's interested. At the moment it's mainly just a to do list with what I had in my mind.
I thought it's not worth starting a new WikiProject, the Bedfordshire one is pretty dead but I made a new page to keep the Luton bits separate.
Feel free to add or change anything on there. I'd like to make Luton and related articles really good!

"Large" town
There is a discussion at talk:Milton Keynes#"Large" town that may be of interest to editors of this article (since it also uses the phrase "large town"). --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 11:06, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
