Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Wikipedia. For retitling files, categories and other items, see When not to use this page.
Please read the article titling policy and the guideline regarding primary topics before moving a page or requesting a page move.
Any autoconfirmed user can use the Move function to perform most moves (see Help:How to move a page). If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:
- Technical reasons may prevent a move: a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. See: § Requesting technical moves.
- Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
- A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
- Unregistered users and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.
Requests are generally processed after seven days. If consensus is reached at or after this time, a reviewer will enact the request. If not, the request may be re-listed to allow more time for consensus to develop, or the discussion closed as "no consensus". See Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.
Wikipedia:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.
When not to use this page
Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
- Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Renaming a category – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming an image or other file – see Wikipedia:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
- Moves from draft namespace or user space to article space – Unconfirmed users: add
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the article. See Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Confirmed users: Move the page yourself. - Merging two articles – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge.
- Contesting a move request close – use the Wikipedia:Move review process.
Undiscussed moves
Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:
- No article exists at the new target title;
- There has been no discussion (especially no recent discussion) about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
- It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.
If you disagree with such a move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.
Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
Requesting technical moves
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct page if you tried to move a page, and you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons: ..."
![]() If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.
| |
- To list a technical request: the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the top of the list, filling in pages and reason:
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new page title|reason=reason for move}}
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page. - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

Requests to revert undiscussed moves
Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves
The discussion process is used for potentially controversial moves. A move is potentially controversial if either of the following applies:
- there has been any past debate about the best title for the page;
- someone could reasonably disagree with the move.
Use this process if there is any reason to believe a move would be contested. For technical move requests, such as to correct obvious typographical errors, see Requesting technical moves. The technical moves procedure can also be used for uncontroversial moves when the requested title is occupied by an existing article.
Do not create a new move request when one is already open on the same talk page. Instead, consider contributing to the open discussion if you would like to propose another alternative. Multiple closed move requests may be on the same page, but each should have a unique section heading.
Do not create a move request to rename one or more redirects. Redirects cannot be used as current titles in requested moves.
Requesting a single page move
To request a single page move, click on the "Add topic" tab of the talk page of the article you want moved, without adding a new subject/header, inserting this code:
{{subst:requested move|NewName|reason=Place here your rationale for the proposed page name change, ideally referring to applicable naming convention policies and guidelines, and providing evidence in support where appropriate. If your reasoning includes search engine results, please prioritize searches limited to reliable sources (e.g. books, news, scholarly papers) over other web results. You don't need to add your signature at the end, as this template will do so automatically.}}
Replace NewName
with the requested new name of the page (or with a simple question mark, if you want more than one possible new name to be considered). The template will automatically create the heading "Requested move 15 May 2022" and sign the post for you.
There is no need to edit the article in question. Once the above code is added to the Talk page, a bot will automatically add the following notification at the top of the affected page:
Note: Unlike other request processes on Wikipedia, such as Requests for comment, nominations need not be neutral. Make your point as best you can; use evidence (such as Google Ngrams and pageview statistics) and refer to applicable policies and guidelines, especially our article titling policy and the guideline on disambiguation and primary topics.
WikiProjects may subscribe to Article alerts to receive RM notifications. For example, Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Article alerts/Requested moves is transcluded to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography. RMCD bot notifies many of the other Wikiprojects listed on the talk page of the article to be moved to invite project members to participate in the RM discussion. Requesters should feel free to notify any other Wikiproject or noticeboard that might be interested in the move request, as long as this notification is neutral.
Single page move on a different talk page
Occasionally, a move request must be made on a talk page other than the talk page of the page to be moved. For example, a request to rename Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Resources to Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Reviewing and templates would need to take place at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation because the talk page of the project page to be moved, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation/Resources, is a redirect to that centralized discussion page. In this type of case, the requested move should be made using the following code:
{{subst:requested move|reason=(the reason for the page move goes here).|current1=(present title of page to be renamed)|new1=(proposed title of page)}}
Note that the |1=
unnamed parameter is not used, and that the |current1=
and |new1=
parameters are used similar to multiple page moves described below.
Requesting multiple page moves
A single template may be used to request multiple related moves. On one of the talk pages of the affected pages, create a request and format it as below. A sample request for three page moves is shown here (for two page moves, omit the lines for current3 and new3). For four page moves, add lines for current4 and new4, and so on. There is no technical limit on the number of multiple move requests, but before requesting very large multi-moves, consider whether a naming convention should be changed first. Discuss that change on the talk page for the naming convention, e.g., Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (sportspeople).
To request a multiple page move, edit at the bottom of the talk page of the article you chose for your request, without adding a new header, inserting this code:
{{subst:requested move
| current1 = Current title of page 1
| new1 = New title for page 1 with the talk page hosting this discussion
| current2 = Current title of page 2
| new2 = New title for page 2
| current3 = Current title of page 3
| new3 = New title for page 3
| reason = Place here your rationale for the proposed page name change, ideally referring to applicable naming convention policies and guidelines, and providing evidence in support where appropriate. If your reasoning includes search engine results, please prioritize searches limited to reliable sources (e.g. books, news, scholarly papers) over other web results. You don't need to add your signature at the end, as this template will do so automatically.
}}
For example, to propose moving the articles Wikipedia
and Wiki
, put this template on Talk:Wikipedia
, and replace current2
with Wiki
. The discussion for all affected articles is held on the talk page of the article at page 1 (Talk:Wikipedia
). Do not sign a request with ~~~~
as the template does this automatically. Do not skip pairs of numbers.
RMCD bot automatically places a notice section on the talk page of the additional pages that are included in your request, advising that the move discussion is in progress, where it is, and that all discussion for all pages included in the request should take place at that one location.
Occasionally the discussions for significant multi-move requests may be hosted on WikiProject talk pages or other pages in Project namespace. For multi-move discussions hosted on a page which is not itself proposed to be moved, specify |current1=Current title of page 1
for the first page to move.
Request all associated moves explicitly
Please list every move that you wish to have made in your request. For example, if you wish to move Cricket (disambiguation) to Cricket because you do not believe the sport is the primary topic for the search term "Cricket", then you actually want to move two pages, both Cricket (disambiguation) and Cricket. Thus you must list proposed titles for each page affected by your request. For example, you might propose:
If a new title is not proposed for the sport, it is more difficult to achieve consensus for a new title for that article. A move request that does not show what to do with the material at its proposed target, such as:
is incomplete. Such requests may be completed as a request to decide the best new title by discussion.

Commenting on a requested move
All editors are welcome to contribute to the discussion regarding a requested page move. There are a number of standards that Wikipedians should practice in such discussions:
- When editors recommend a course of action, they write Support or Oppose in bold text, which is done by surrounding the word with three single quotes on each side, e.g.
'''Support'''
. - Comments or recommendations are added on a new bulleted line (that is, starting with *) and signed by adding
~~~~
to the end. Responses to another editor are threaded and indented using multiple bullets. - The article itself should be reviewed before any recommendation is made; do not base recommendations solely on the information supplied by other editors. It may also help to look at the article's edit history. However, please read the earlier comments and recommendations, as well as prior move requests. They may contain relevant arguments and useful information.
- Vested interests in the article should be disclosed per Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI.
When participating, please consider the following:
- Editors should make themselves familiar with the article titling policy at Wikipedia:Article titles.
- Other important guidelines that set forth community norms for article titles include Wikipedia:Disambiguation, specific naming conventions, and the manual of style.
- The debate is not a vote; please do not make recommendations that are not sustained by arguments.
- Explain how the proposed article title meets or contravenes policy and guidelines rather than merely stating that it does so.
- Nomination already implies that the nominator supports the name change, and nominators should refrain from repeating this recommendation on a separate bulleted line.[a]
- Do not make conflicting recommendations. If you change your mind, use strike-through to retract your previous statement by enclosing it between <s> and </s> after the bullets, and de-bold the struck words, as in "•
SupportOppose".
Please remember that reasonable editors will sometimes disagree, but that arguments based in policy, guidelines, and evidence have more weight than unsupported statements. When an editor offers an argument that does not explain how the move request is consistent with policies and guidelines, a reminder to engage in constructive, on-topic discussion may be useful. On the other hand, a pattern of responding to requests with groundless opinion, proof by assertion, and ignoring content guidelines may become disruptive. If a pattern of disruptive behavior persists after efforts are made to correct the situation through dialogue, please consider using a dispute resolution process.
Closing a requested move
Any uninvolved editor in good standing may close a move request. Please read the closing instructions for information on how to close a move request. The Simple guide to closing RM discussions details how to actually close a requested move discussion.
Relisting a requested move
Relisting a discussion moves the request out of the backlog up to the current day in order to encourage further input. The decision to relist a discussion is best left to uninvolved experienced editors upon considering, but declining, to close the discussion. In general, discussions should not be relisted more than once before properly closing.[b] Users relisting a debate which has already been relisted, or relisting a debate with a substantial discussion, should write a short explanation on why they did not consider the debate sufficient to close. While there is no consensus forbidding participation in a requested move discussion after relisting it, many editors consider it an inadvisable form of supervote. If you want to relist a discussion and then participate in it, be prepared to explain why you think it was appropriate.
Relisting should be done using {{subst:relisting}}
, which automatically includes the relister's signature, and which must be placed at the very end of the initial request after the move requester's signature (and subsequent relisters' signatures).
When a relisted discussion reaches a resolution, it may be closed at any time according to the closing instructions; there is no required length of time to wait before closing a relisted discussion.
If discussion has become stale, or it seems that discussion would benefit from more input of editors versed in the subject area, consider more widely publicizing the discussion, such as by notifying WikiProjects of the discussion using the template {{RM notification}}. Banners placed at the top of the talk page hosting the move request can often be used to identify WikiProjects suitable for notification.
Notes
- ^ A nominator making a procedural nomination with which they may not agree is free to add a bulleted line explaining their actual position. Additional detail, such as sources, may also be provided in an additional bullet point if its inclusion in the nomination statement would make the statement unwieldy. Please remember that the entire nomination statement is transcluded into the list on this page.
- ^ Despite this, discussions are occasionally relisted more than once.
Current discussions
- This section lists all requests filed or identified as potentially controversial which are currently under discussion.
This list is also available in a page-link-first format and in table format. 61 discussions have been relisted.
- (Discuss) – Rulin waishi → The Scholars (novel) – I feel we should rename the page because this title would meet more of the page title criteria at WP:CRITERIA, and because WP:NCB states that if it's unclear what the most common title is, that page should be named after "the version that contributed most to the book's becoming known in the English-speaking world", which, in my opinion, is clearly the only English translation. "(novel)" is needed for disambiguation, but there are no other pages on novels with this title, so "(Chinese novel)" is unnecessary and overlong. CohenTheBohemian (talk) 08:56, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Peggle → Peggle (video game) – A rather lengthy and long-running series in which no particular game has primacy, despite the original game being the most developed article. Moving the series page to primary will help it expand and reflect the actual scope of the series, as well as bring it in line with other video game series. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 06:30, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – GNN (news channel) → GNN (Pakistani TV channel) – The current nonstandard disambiguator "news channel" is incomplete disambiguation given that "news" is in the name of several of the entries at GNN. None of the other entries concern an entity in Pakistan. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 05:02, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – 2021 Buffalo clinic attack → Buffalo, Minnesota clinic attack – I once said that "it is important to distinguish Buffalo, Minnesota, from the more well-known Buffalo, New York", and now, it's clear that I was prescient to say this, because we now have a mass shooting that occurred in the more well-known Buffalo. The addition of the state in the title will help distinguish this Minnesota event from the one that occurred in New York. As for the removal of the year, well, this is the only such event in the history of this Buffalo in particular, so there's no need for a disambiguating year. - (Discuss) – Beechwood (disambiguation) → Beechwood – No clear primary topic for "-wood". There are also several other species of beechwood listed on the DAB. Beech gets 14,781 views and the Beechwood redirect has 171 but Beechwood (disambiguation) has 282[[8]] which is a sign readers are not wanting the wood when searching though its not conclusive either way since it may be clicked by readers ending up at the tree article anyway however some readers may not find the DAB and just search again when they incorrectly land on the tree article but in any case a higher view count for the DAB than the redirect is strong evidence of there being no primary topic. Beechwood (Astor mansion) has 5,070, Beachwood, Ohio has 1,850, Beechwood (Vanderlip mansion) has 299, Beechwood, Merseyside has 167, Beechwood, Newport has 47, Beechwood, Michigan has 43, Beechwood, Wisconsin has 42, Beechwood, Runcorn has 35, Beechwood, Mississippi has 32, Beechwood (Beales, Virginia) has 16, Beechwood, Indiana has 14, the station has 12, Beechwood (Isaac Kinsey House) has 8, Beechwood (Southbridge, Massachusetts) has 6, Beechwood, Wyoming County, West Virginia has 4, Beechwood, Wood County, West Virginia has 3, Beechwood, Iron County, Michigan has 1 and Beechwood, Ontario has 1[[9]]. - (Discuss) – His Eminence → Eminence (style) – per WP:CONSISTENT and WP:GNL (first three), WP:TWODABS (last one). 23 other articles about noun-form styles are at "Noun" or "Noun (style)" where necessary (Apostolic Majesty, Britannic Majesty, Ducal Serene Highness, Exalted Highness, Excellency, Grace (style), Grand Ducal Highness, Highness, Illustrious Highness, Imperial and Most Faithful Majesty, Imperial and Royal Highness, Imperial and Royal Majesty → His Imperial and Royal Majesty, Imperial Highness, Imperial Majesty (style), Majesty, Most Excellent Majesty, Most Faithful Majesty, Most Gracious Majesty, Orthodox Majesty, Royal Highness, Serene Highness, Sultanic Highness, Worship (style)). The three proposed to be moved are the only ones at "His Noun". The His form has the disadvantage of arbitrariness and over-specificity: they could equally be at "Your Noun", and most of them are also applied as "Her Noun" or "Their Noun". An argument that the pronouns are required because they are integral to the style would be wrong – both Debrett's ("... would be entitled to the style Royal Highness and the title ... was created Royal Highness, but ... with the style of Highness and ...", all [10] p. 58) and the the Queen via the Gazette ("... should have and enjoy the style, title and attribute of Royal Highness with ..." [11]) omit the pronouns when referring to styles of this form without a name. I suggest that Debrett's and Letters Patent are the limit Wikipedia should be aiming for in terms of formality and hyper-correctness, and neither uses a pronoun when referencing styles in the abstract. These moves were previously discussed in 2018 as part of a larger set of proposals. This proposal is a subset of the prior proposal, and if accepted would now create a full set of consistent articles at either "The Adjective", "The Adjective (style)", "Noun" or "Noun (style)". Somewhat relatedly, also proposing moving Imperial Majesty (style) to remove the disambiguator – there are only two full links at the existing disambiguation page, it should be deleted and disambiguation done with hatnotes. - (Discuss) – Russian allegations of fascism against Ukraine → Anti-Ukrainian sentiment in the Russo-Ukrainian War – The subject is anti-Ukrainian sentiment (“animosity towards Ukrainians, Ukrainian culture, Ukrainian language, Ukraine as a nation”) during the Russo-Ukrainian War, ongoing since 2014. This subject is a specific aspect of these two topics, and WP:reliable sources have given us significant coverage of the first as connected directly to the second. It is not only about one or several specific slurs or tropes, for example “nazis,” a “junta,” a conspiratorial centuries-old “anti-Russia project,” or the purported illegitimacy of an independent Ukrainian nation separate from the “triune nation.” The name reflects a WP:neutral point of view and indicates the scope. —Michael Z. 18:38, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Aldebaran (Ai song) → Aldebaran (song) – The "Aldebaran (song)" page was created in 2016 and as of now still redirects to Enya. On the Aldebaran (disambiguation) page, there are no other songs listed with "Aldebaran" as the title other than "Aldebaran (Ai song)". As "Aldebaran (Ai song)" is a completed article, it should be moved to "Aldebaran (song)". -Verso- (talk) 03:56, 3 May 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! - (Discuss) – Frederick Douglas (disambiguation) → Frederic Douglas – The links Frederic Douglass, Fredric Douglass, Fredrick Douglass and Fred Douglass all redirect to Frederick Douglass as does Frederick Douglas, Fredrick Douglas as well as Fredric Douglas. On the other hand, Frederic Douglas redirects to Frederic Huntington Douglas and Fred Douglas redirects to Fred J. Douglas. Thus, it would seem more intuitive for Frederic Douglas to be the main title header of the dab page rather than redirect to Frederic Huntington Douglas. At the same time, such a move would also obviate the need for the parenthetical qualifier "(disambiguation)". — Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 21:22, 5 May 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. - (Discuss) – A Medio Vivir (album) → A Medio Vivir – The album is one of the best-selling Latin albums of all time and was a breakthrough moment for the singer, while the title-track which is the only other page listed in the disambiguation page has a low importance and notability in compare with the album. The situation is similar to Speak Now and Speak Now (song), Future Nostalgia and Future Nostalgia (song), Talk That Talk and Talk That Talk (Rihanna song), She Wolf and She Wolf (Shakira song), Sale el Sol and Sale el Sol (song), Dangerous Woman and Dangerous Woman (song), Man of the Woods and Man of the Woods (song), etc. In this case the difference of notability is even more than the most of the examples that I mentioned now. آرمین هویدایی (talk) 13:49, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Codfish Island → Codfish Island / Whenua Hou – In recent sources, the island is almost exclusively referred to with a dual name in some capacity (be that with an unspaced slash, just a space, hyphenated, comma,parentheses and spaced slash, with the order of the names varying. While this makes any form of meta-analysis even more difficult than usual, it should be clear from the outset that the dual name is frequently used, with each component name also used interchangeably with no clear preference of one over the other. As such, the dual name provides the most opportunity for a reader to find the island they are thinking of, whether they know it as the dual name, Codfish Island, or Whenua Hou. Per WP:NZNC guidelines, we should use the spaced slash format and the order as established in the gazetteer, which is what is proposed in this move. Turnagra (talk) 04:56, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Eudyptes warhami → Chatham penguin – According to the guinea pig example in Wikipedia:UCRN, the preference for English names over scientific names in article titles is official Wikipedia policy. Thus, almost all Wikipedia pages for living and recently extinct species use their common name as the title. Among living and recently extinct penguins, these two species are the only exceptions. Also, the article Eudyptes warhami appears to have been titled Chatham penguin before it was unilaterally moved without discussion in 2020. This particular critique does not apply in the case of Eudyptula novaehollandiae, but again the preference for common names is both official Wikipedia policy and the common pattern among Wikipedia pages. - (Discuss) – ISO/IEC base media file format → ISO base media file format – There was a previous renaming of this article in October 2019 (see the record of that above on this page). This request would revert that renaming, which was misguided. What people may not have noticed is that on 11 October 2019, just a few days before starting the renaming discussion, the same anonymous IP made a lot of improper changes to the article (see here). This included changing the titles of many of the cited sources to make it appear that those documents had different titles than what they actually have. I just reverted the obviously improper citation changes (see here). The proper and official title of this standard is "ISO base media file format", even though it was developed jointly by ISO and IEC. Just look at the official standard title here (not the numerical designation ISO/IEC 14496-12, but the actual title that follows after "Information technology — Coding of audio-visual objects — Part 12:". See also this press release from ISO and this similar press release from IEC about the standard. The formal name as well as the common name of this standard is "ISO base media file format", not "ISO/IEC base media file format". See also this and this. As far as I know, nobody calls this the ISO/IEC base media file format unless they've recently been reading Wikipedia. When proposing the previous renaming, the anonymous IP didn't even say that anyone actually uses their proposed name, and no one made any comments while the discussion was open. I think people were just not paying attention to the proposal. The IEC is a highly respected organization that has been involved in the development of this standard from day 1, but its name is not part of the title and is not part of the common name of the standard. I'll note that relevant categories here are Category:Jesus in art and (parent)Category:Cultural depictions of Jesus, the latter part of Category:Cultural depictions of religious leaders. So plural is the norm. See also: Depictions of Muhammad. That said, this was a no consensus move proposal 10 years ago (see few sections above). I did read it and I don't find it compelling - the topic is IMHO still the same, and we should be consistent our naming of articles. Plural name should be better, as in, it's simpler to standardize this exception to the norm then rename dozens of other articles and categories to match this one. Alternatively Jesus in art, currently a redirect, would also be an option to conside (Depictions of God in Western Christianity redirects to God the Father in Western art...). - (Discuss) – 1.96 → 97.5th percentile point – I understand that this article is about the number, not necessarily the point itself. However, as per WP:NCNUM, "article titles consisting exclusively of both arabic numerals and separators (like hyphens) are discouraged for content pages. I find the title of this article to be quite unusual considering the topics that other numbers' articles usually cover, and that this one is narrowly about statistics. I would be potentially open to 1.96 (statistics), or Z-score of the 97.5th percentile as alternatives, but I think as it is, it's not clear that "1.96" is the clear, unambiguous name of this concept. - (Discuss) – OpenSearch (software) → OpenSearch – I propose that we move OpenSearch to OpenSearch (syndication) and OpenSearch (software) to OpenSearch (with a hatnote disambiguation link) because the software project is now better-known than the syndication protocol and is almost always what users are searching for. Because I am a product manager on the OpenSearch project and therefore have a conflict of interest, I am not making the move myself. The OpenSearch web search syndication protocol was defined in 2005 by A9, part of Amazon.com; it continues to be used. Amazon Web Services, also part of Amazon.com, initiated the open source OpenSearch search engine software project in April 2021, and it is growing rapidly. The OpenSearch trademark is owned by Amazon. The transfer of the name from the syndication protocol to the software project is supported by the maintainer of the syndication protocol. Under our Article titles policy, when two topics have the same name, if one of them is the primary topic, that topic should use the unqualified title, in this case, OpenSearch. The primary topic is defined as: * A topic is primary for a term with respect to usage if it is highly likely—much more likely than any other single topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined—to be the topic sought when a reader searches for that term. * A topic is primary for a term with respect to long-term significance if it has substantially greater enduring notability and educational value than any other topic associated with that term. Here is some data showing that the software project is primary with respect to usage: * In Google Trends, the term [opensearch] was rated 1.5 from 2017-2020, and rapidly gained in popularity after the OpenSearch project was announced in April 2021. By the end of 2021, it averaged around 50, and for all of 2022 so far, it has averaged 71. Since there has been no recent activity around the protocol, we can infer that the difference between the current level and the stable pre-2021 level represents interest in the project, showing that the project is about 46x more popular as a search topic than the syndication protocol. The Related topics and Related queries also show that the term is being used for the software project. * In Google Search (tested in an incognito window), only one result of the top 10 (the sixth) is about the protocol. That is, Google’s algorithms estimate that the project is of much more interest to searchers than the protocol. * On Github, the software project repo has about 10x more stars and 2x more watches than the protocol, showing interest among developers. * On Wikipedia, pageviews for the project have been increasing steadily, and are now about 70% higher than for the protocol. I don’t have a crystal ball to predict long-term significance, but the protocol is a more niche interest – primarily among developers of browsers and Web search syndication systems – than the software, which is already widely used. Other things called OpenSearch are much less common: OpenSearchServer gets under 10% as many pageviews as either of the main ones, and the Open Search Foundation does not have a Wikipedia article. From the above data, it seems clear that the software project is now the primary topic by a large factor, so it should be at the title OpenSearch. The syndication protocol can use the disambiguated form OpenSearch (syndication). Macrakis (talk) 18:46, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Lottie and Lisa → Lisa and Lottie – The characters' names have been published this way round in the title in the United States since at least 1969 as well as in the current official title there so there is the potential that those introduced to the novel over the past five decades might be more familiar with this title. In trying to determine the most common name in English as per WP:COMMONNAME, I ran a Google Trends comparison (https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?geo=US&q=Lisa%20and%20Lottie,Lottie%20and%20Lisa) but searches for both titles as a search term have been at roughly equal levels over the past year as well as the past five years which makes it difficult. I filtered my search to results from the US on account of it having the largest population of English speakers and the novel having no strong local ties to any English-speaking countries having been written by a German author and being set in Germany and Austria. Another reason for my filtering of results from the US is because the novel is currently published in the United Kingdom and Australia under a different title (The Parent Trap) in use there since 2014 so more recent readers from there might be more familiar with it. I have wondered if the continued use of the older title could be influenced by the 1961 Parent Trap film but on further inspection the title for the novel it is based on is given as "Das doppelte Lottchen", which is the German original, both in the original film and the 1998 remake. The persistence of the older title could be down to use by the mainstream media but those articles could have been written by older generations introduced to the novel by its older title or they could be referring to the original English language edition. - (Discuss) – Raidió Teilifís Éireann → RTÉ – Using the abbreviations as the page title satisfies the naming WP:CRITERIA. It is clearly more concise. It is certainly as recognisable as Raidió Teilifís Éireann. I would argue that no precision is lost, although it is of course not its official name (but WP:OFFICIAL). Most significantly, it is more natural, in the sense that we describe Bryan Dobson as a "presenter with RTÉ" rather a "presenter with Raidió Teilifís Éireann", as so also is a more common name for the corporation (see WP:COMMONNAME). In terms of consistency, it would match the various pages beginning with RTÉ, as against none others using the full name. Iveagh Gardens (talk) 15:21, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Kabaš → Kabash – To begin with, the namesake of the village is the Albanian Kabashi tribe. Other such toponyms exist in Kosovo, such as the Kabash Mountain. For the sake of consistency, 'Kabash' should be used. Additionally, sources utilise Kabash as the common name in English as it produces 25 results for Kabash Viti (https://scholar.google.com.au/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=Kabash+Viti&btnG=), whereas 'Kabaš' (no matter which parameters are used) does not seem to produce valid results due to it's existence as a surname. Very few, if any, of the results produced by using 'Kabaš' actually refer to the village, and this can be very confusing for readers and those who use wikipedia. Therefore, in summary, this article should be moved to 'Kabash' due to the fact that it is more English-language friendly, it minimises confusion for readers by ensuring further search results directly relate to the village, it is consistent with the use of 'Kabash' toponyms in Kosovo, it is the WP:COMMONAME and it is also used by over 90% of Kosovo's population as well as the government. Botushali (talk) 03:06, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Oshtro Koplje → Bajraku (peak) – Bajraku and Oštro koplje garner similar results across websites, but the following should be noted; 'Oštro koplje' must be searched with the parameters 'Oštro koplje mountain kosovo' in order to limit the search to the topic at hand (as does 'Bajraku peak kosovo'), and many of the sources using this name are from the times of Yugoslavia in the 1900's. Google Books is not able to give a conclusive view on this RM as it simply includes droves of sources that do not actually have something to do with the mountain peak itself. Therefore, it would be appropriate to move this article due to the fact that the overwhelming majority of Kosovo (over 90%) speaks Albanian and thereby uses the Albanian term for the mountain - as does the local government. Botushali (talk) 02:53, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Streoc (mountain) → Strellc (mountain) – Strellc is the common name - although Strellc and Streoc garner similar results across websites (it is important to keep in mind there seems to be a lot of overlap between the village of Strellc which is named for the mountain and the mountain of Strellc itself, not all refer to the mountain), 'Strellc Kosovo' gathers slightly more results (https://scholar.google.com.au/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&as_ylo=2018&q=Strellc+Kosovo&btnG=) since 2018 than 'Streoc Kosovo' (https://scholar.google.com.au/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&as_ylo=2018&q=Streoc+Kosovo&btnG=). This reflects the trend of the increasingly preferred use of the Albanian name, which is used by over 90% of Kosovo's population and is also used by the government of Kosovo itself. Also of important note is the fact that the articles, Strellc i Epërm and Strellc i Ulët are named using the Albanian term, and the mountain that is their namesake should reflect this for the sake of consistency. Botushali (talk) 02:40, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
It is clear that Llapushnik is the common name in the English language and it is also the name used by the locals, the government and the vast majority of the nation (90+% to be more specific). - (Discuss) – Claims of genocide of Ukrainians in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine → Genocide investigations of 2022 Russian atrocities in Ukraine – There is a consensus that the current title is unsatisfactory, per discussion above, in talk:Claims of genocide of Ukrainians in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine#Finding a viable name. This title is better, it supports the five WP:CRITERIA as well as possible, and it reflects a WP:neutral point of view. It avoids loaded terms as described in WP:CLAIM. It defines the subject as the many ongoing investigations being conducted by legal and public entities, whose evidence will potentially inform the International Criminal Court investigation in Ukraine or other legal cases, and can include the academic and legal questions over them. Atrocity crimes is the umbrella term for military aggression, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.[14] At least some of those are accepted to exist, and using the umbrella term obviates the need to debate their specifics in accepting this title. —Michael Z. 14:59, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Genova → Museo Civico di Storia Naturale Giacomo Doria – As far as I'm aware, this is the most used name for the museum, including "Giacomo Doria" with or without quotes (e.g. [16] [17]), rather than "di Genova" (i.e. "of Genoa"). Google lists more results for the current title than the proposed one, but in fact many of the results, including Google's knowledge panel, actually seem to give the latter name or variations in their text. What makes me unsure about the name choice however is the fact that the museum's own website in Italian omits "Civico" currently: [18]. This also seems to be true of a few other natural history museums in Italy, however, and oddly enough the map on the website of this museum still gives the name of the museum with "Civico" in it anyway. So should the page have "Civico" in it or not? Alternatively, the page could be moved to "Natural History Museum Giacomo Doria" following the website's English-language pages [19]. - (Discuss) – Redmi 1 → Xiaomi Red Rice – Most of the sources I found for this phone call it the Red Rice (or Hongmi in China), and if you search "Redmi 1" on Google, most of the results are for the Redmi 1S, which is a different smartphone. The only place I found calling it a Redmi phone was in its GSMArena page, but even there it is called just the "Xiaomi Redmi" instead of Redmi 1, and it give alternative names as Red Rice and Hongmi. I'm not sure this phone is even notable enough for a Wikipedia article, or just a section the Xiaomi or Redmi articles, but as for the name I haven't found any other sources calling it the first Redmi, as most of the search results for this phone only come when searching up Xiaomi Red Rice. 9ninety (talk) 14:51, 24 April 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. Link to pageviews. (Dead Space 2 gets approx. 425 page views daily, Dead Space 3 about 500). It is also likely that many of the views for the 1991 film are actually looking for the animated video game films such as Dead Space: Downfall making it even less of a prominent target for pageviews than the franchise. - (Discuss) – Soul Eater (manga) → Soul Eater – I think the manga is the clear WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for "Soul Eater". The only other article that shares exactly the same name including the capitalization is Soul Eater (novel); there is also Soul eater (folklore), though it is irrelevant per WP:SMALLDETAILS. But anyway, even including it, this article gets far more page views than them. The novel averages 3-5 views per day and the folklore averages 40-50 per day. However, the manga averages 800-1000 per day, over 100 times more than the novel and 20 times the folklore. Even when it comes to long term significance, the other articles are poor and make it hard to determine how much long term significance they have. By comparison, this series has received multiple adaptations and even has a spin-off that is independently notable. Link20XX (talk) 00:05, 18 April 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. - (Discuss) – St. Denis station → St. Denis station (MARC) – Saint-Denis–Porte de Paris (Paris Métro) is a better candidate for WP:PRIMARYTOPIC here. Saint Denis in France is generally more well known than St. Denis, Maryland, which is part of the unincorporated community of Arbutus, Maryland. Further, St. Denis station (MARC) is a request stop which receives 11 passengers on average weekly, while Saint Denis Metro station in Paris is visited by millions of people every year. The move discussion above actually concluded that this article should be called St. Denis station (MARC), but according to the history it looks like a single user moved it again about a month later. I was prompted after noticing Mount Royal Station also seemed inconsistent with WP:PRIMARYTOPIC to check other Maryland station-related article to see if any slipped through the cracks. Most similar examples have been addressed properly as it is considered unfavorable to set a relatively obscure American place as the main topic over a more notable one in a non-English speaking country. Aberdeen station (Maryland) is no longer the main topic for Aberdeen station as Aberdeen, Scotland is far more notable; though a disambiguation is needed due to the existence of an Aberdeen bus station and train station there. Havre de Grace, Maryland is no longer the main topic for Havre de Grace given the notability of its namesake Le Havre (formerly Havre de Grace). MARC is the disambiguating component for most other stations in the system, like Muirkirk station (MARC), and service disambiguators are now in use for most Maryland stations more broadly. Aberdeen station does not follow this because it is served by both Amtrak and MARC. Middle river exports (talk) 04:49, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
Page view trends heavily favor the singer and continue to increase over time, while the archer's remain stagnant. - (Discuss) – Italian Social Democratic Party → Social Democracy (Italy) – I propose the move for multiple reasons: 1. it seems to me that this party is called in English-language sources exclusively "Social Democracy" (which, by the way, is the translation of the Italian alternative name of the party, "Democrazia Sociale") (see: [21], [22], [23], [24], [25]); 2."Italian Social Democratic Party" is the other name by which the Italian Democratic Socialist Party is called in the sources, so it should redirect to that page. While a reasonable point was made about the other Ollie's career and WP:10YT, I believe that it goes also into WP:CRYSTAL territory, as Amakuru notes; and it is not necessary for us to arrange for the possibility of a changing primary topic in the future; we cannot predict any such changes now, and the project is a work in progress; we can consider those changes as they happen. - (Discuss) – Can't Stop Feeling (disambiguation) → Can't Stop the Feeling – There are four songs, each titled slightly differently from the others, listed upon the Can't Stop Feeling (disambiguation) page. Among those four songs, the one listed as the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC above the remaining three is ""Can't Stop Feeling" is a song by Franz Ferdinand." However, the most prominent among the four songs is ""Can't Stop the Feeling!", a song by Justin Timberlake". If this dab page's main title header is moved to "Can't Stop the Feeling", which is currently a redirect, we can at least negate the incorrect positioning of the Franz Ferdinand song as having a greater renown than the combined prominence of the other three songs. — Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 04:23, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan → Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan – "Supreme Leader" has emerged as the most common in RS since the caretaker government was implemented (Agence France-Presse, BBC, Al Jazeera, TOLOnews, RFE/RL, Reuters, The Guardian, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Dawn, The Diplomat, Ariana News, Voice of America, NPR). I was holding off on making this RM because we didn't have confirmation that the Taliban themselves have used it as the formal title, rather than just a description. Thanks to Jasper Chu, we can see in this recent statement by Akhundzada himself that this is in fact an official name used by the Taliban in English. We could alternatively move to Supreme Leader of Afghanistan, but most sources do not appear to simplify it in that way (instead saying "the Taliban's supreme leader" or the "Islamic Emirate's supreme leader"), and I'd prefer to keep the IEA in the name since most of the office's history so far has been as the leader of an insurgency. ― Tartan357 Talk 01:41, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Overwatch (video game) → Overwatch – The previous requested move to this location resulted in no consensus. However, after looking over the evidence it is quite clear that the video game is the primary topic for the word "Overwatch". Pageviews indicate an extreme interest in comparison to the military term which is unlikely to die down in the future with the release of a sequel. - (Discuss) – Jomboy (sports media personality) → Jomboy – Two and a half years after Jimmy "Jomboy" O'Brien became a well-known persona in sports media with his video on the Houston Astros sign stealing scandal, I think it's safe to say that he has become the primary topic for the word "Jomboy" in English, as borne out by Google and Google News searches. The city in Uzbekistan has a population of 11,000, and even the Uzbek Wikipedia only has a few paragraphs' worth of content on it. Only 82 people visited the city article in February, and of those 82 at least 36 clicked through to Jomboy O'Brien. You can see here the massive surge of views the city article got during the Astros scandal, and how it never died back down. There were only a few months prior to the Astros video that the city got more pageviews than it's gotten the past few months, and even then, Jomboy O'Brien was still a well-known baseball personality at that time. If you go back before June of 2018, the city consistently got 50-75 views per month, keeping in mind that at most 46 people visiting the article this past month were actually looking for it (probably considerably less considering some people just don't click navigation links). If there isn't consensus for this, I would suggest still moving the city article and making Jomboy a DAB, and also perhaps giving O'Brien a more concise title... either Jomboy (entertainer) or Jimmy "Jomboy" O'Brien. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 13:53, 28 March 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. - (Discuss) – Cam River (Canterbury) → Cam River / Ruataniwha – In December last year, a move request saw several articles relating to New Zealand places which have dual names move to said dual name as a form of natural disambiguation. Following that move, this request proposes moving other articles for which the dual name would be a more natural and preferable form of disambiguation. All of the proposed moves: #have a dual name as recorded in the NZGB Gazetteer, but their article is not at the dual place name #have a current title which requires disambiguation, and are not the primary topic for that title #would have a title of equal or shorter length by using the dual name, per WP:CONCISE. I believe that, given the above criteria, the proposed moves make for a much better form of disambiguation and for clearer names overall. Some of the above names have further cases for use of the dual name (such as consistency with linked places, as with Pigeon Island / Wāwāhi Waka being at a dual name with the neighbouring Pig Island / Mātau), but I believe each of the above stands on their own merit even aside from these cases. - (Discuss) – Freeform (TV channel) → Freeform (TV network) – Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Television, the text of this article should describe it as a television network not a channel - its a distinction because the article is about the business entity which produces the content stream. "Television channel" is somewhat outdated terminology in that a channel is the customer-facing output - as in a virtual number assigned by TV provider, which can vary. (TV network) is the standard disambiguator per WP:NCBC#Networks. -- Netoholic @ 08:01, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Attack on Belgorod → ? – There seems to have been two attacks on the city so far (at least according to Russian sources/media), so I would propose the three options: * Attacks on Belgorod * Belgorod airstrike allegations * Belgorod during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine Another option would be to merge this with Millerovo air base attack into a new article called Attacks on Russia during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine or something of a similar title.
