The amount of sheer nonsense and vitriol that has transpired on this article, and this talk page, has been an embarrassing spectacle for everyone involved. In 2018, Arriva had a logo and vehicle livery rebrand and since then vehicles have very gradually gained the new logo and livery, Most ex-Sapphire buses are now being repainted into the new standard Arriva livery (110 Tamworth, 575 Bolton, Arriva Colchester Stansted 133), Arriva 700 Bluewater, Most Arriva buses now seem to have leather seating as standard (or are being retrimmed as such) and I would assume going forward none would include USB sockets or any of the Sappphirey things they once had,
Anyway my question is Should this article now be converted to past-tense given Sapphire seems to very much be a thing of the past?. Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 17:24, 18 July 2022 (UTC) |
These edits of mine keep getting reverted without a decent explanation. In prose an amount in rupees is almost always appended with "/-" (ie. "rupees only"), and "Rs" is demonstrably still in common use as many keyboards do not yet support "₹". I also believe it is highly inappropriate and ahistorical to prefix "₹" in contexts from before the sign existed.TheCurrencyGuy (talk) 11:41, 10 July 2022 (UTC) |
In all the instances I have ever seen pound sterling is an adjective, not a compound noun, and if there are pence in the amount cited "sterling" is still suffixed, for example "the exchange rate is at 100 currency A to 1 pound 25 pence sterling", not "1 pound sterling 25 pence".
The Oxford English Dictionary seems pretty confident that it is indeed an adjective to describe an amount as "lawful English money" and not of some other currency.[1] It is cited as a contraction of the statement "pounds [of] sterlings". The Royal Mint also seem pretty happy to claim it as an adjective [2].
I hope this can be a fruitful discussion. TheCurrencyGuy (talk) 13:28, 9 July 2022 (UTC) |

Talk:List of longest-reigning monarchs
Currently, the article states that the Queen's reign in all her present realms began when her father died in 1952, which is actually not the case.
Here are few other examples of how the current version of the article is wrong and misleading:
At her Coronation in 1953, the Archbishop asked the Queen, "Will you solemnly promise and swear to govern the Peoples of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Union of South Africa, Pakistan, and Ceylon..?" No explicit mention of many of her present realms like Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Belize, Grenada, Jamaica, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu, as these became her realms on independence, not in 1952. Proposal The Queen has reigned as a sovereign monarch since 1952 only in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. It's in these realms where she has been reigning for more than 70 years, which makes her the second-longest reigning sovereign in history. Also, these are the only countries left from her Coronation Oath that she is still monarch of. So, including any other countries here is inaccurate and misleading, and it creates clutter and misses the point of the article. So, I suggest that the Queen's realms be whittled down to just these four realms, and a note may be added about the other realms of which she became sovereign after 1952. Option 1: In 2009, Chou moved to Las Vegas and became a landlord with his wife. According to Balmore Orellana, a former tenant and neighbor of Chou, he was a considerate landlord as Chou did not raise his rent throughout the time that he lived there, but was verbally aggressive toward his wife as he would hear Chou yelling through the walls. In the wake of the shooting Orellana also recalled Chou telling him that he identified as Chinese despite his Taiwanese nationality, and believed that China and Taiwan were one country. In the mid 2010s Chou was almost beaten to death by two tenants who were in arrears; Orellana said the attack left him with scars all over his body and was a harbinger of the decline in his mental stability. Option 2: According to his former neighbor, Chou was once a friendly owner of a Las Vegas apartment building. In 2012 he suffered a nearly fatal attack by two tenants over rent that led to a loss of consciousness, a broken skull, elbow, and partial hearing loss. He also suspected that police detectives tried to withhold a bag with his money before the prosecuter was involved and his bag was finally recovered. Please choose one of the three options, preferably together with a motivation and reliable sources that explicitly support the party's political position. --Scia Della Cometa (talk) 13:17, 24 July 2022 (UTC) |

The situation. On March 1st the governing bodies of tennis (ATP,WTA,ITF) told the world that no Russian or Belarus player can play a tennis tournament under their nation's flag because of the attack on Ukraine by Russian forces. All tournaments agreed and since that time you will see no player nationality listed at any tournament. No problems there. However, authorities did not say they would remove all nationality from rankings, nor did it say that we should erase the nationality of a player for other reasons. The ATP website software seems to have a problem in that it removed all traces of nationality of Russian/Belarus players... everything. Daniil Medvedev's bio shows no trace of his Russian flag. Rankings from 2020 also show no nationality. This is a software error and makes missing nationality from rankings on the ATP and WTA unreliable at the moment.
If we use other sources for rankings we see a different picture. ESPN rankings, FOX rankings, Washington Post rankings, Tennis Abstract rankings... these all show a nationality... as they should. Individual tournaments, which we can source, are a different matter. Nationality is not allowed for the tournaments and those affected players are not allowed to enter team events. These ranking templates will be affected:
Joint governing body March 1st statement is right here These templates are used in multiple articles and inside other templates, and readers have complained about missing nationalities where I have no good answer for them. Since I see no large discussion of this, and another editor and I are at a complete impasse, I have started this RfC here (since it affects multiple tennis articles).
The Oxford English Dictionary seems pretty confident that it is indeed an adjective to describe an amount as "lawful English money" and not of some other currency.[6] It is cited as a contraction of the statement "pounds [of] sterlings". The Royal Mint also seem pretty happy to claim it as an adjective [7].
I hope this can be a fruitful discussion. TheCurrencyGuy (talk) 13:28, 9 July 2022 (UTC) |

Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Elections and Referendums
Over the last year, users have begun adding image galleries to the primary section of non-Presidential United States election articles. These galleries feature a note that "The images in this gallery are in the public domain or are otherwise free to use. This gallery should not be construed as a list of major or noteworthy candidates. If a candidate is not included in this gallery, it is only because there are no high-quality, copyright-free photographs of them available on the Internet." These galleries have proven contentious and led to multiple prior discussions, none of which has yielded a consensus for or against.
Currently, there is no project-wide consensus on the use of these galleries or guidance on how they should be made. This RfC will be on two topics.
While discussion on 1) is underway, users can discuss the second plank in a separate section. If consensus is achieved for usage on 1), the ideas in 2) will be voted upon as well. Toa Nidhiki05 00:19, 26 July 2022 (UTC) |

There has been some disagreement over whether the Medium music publication Cuepoint, which is edited by Jonathan Shecter, directly owned by (the platform) Medium itself, and routinely featured a column by longtime music journalist Robert Christgau, is considered a reliable source. This was most recently raised at Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/1989 (Taylor Swift album)/addition1. This publication does not have an entry at WP:RSMUSIC nor RSP. The publication appears to have gone dormant in 2016 but is routinely used in Taylor Swift related articles.
Is Cuepoint a reliable source for music industry coverage?

User names
This page is for bringing attention to usernames which may be in violation of Wikipedia's username policy. Before listing a username here, consider if it should be more appropriately reported elsewhere, or if it needs to be reported at all:
- Report blatantly inappropriate usernames, such as usernames that are obscene or inflammatory, to Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention.
- For other cases involving vandalism, personal attacks or other urgent issues, try Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents; blatant vandalism can also be reported at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism, which is sometimes a better option.
Do NOT post here if:
- the user in question has made no recent edits.
- you wish to have the block of a user reviewed. Instead, discuss the block with the blocking administrator (see also Wikipedia:Blocking policy#Unblocking).
Before adding a name here you MUST ensure that the user in question:
- has been warned about their username (with e.g. {{subst:uw-username}}) and has been allowed time to address the concern on their user talk page.
- has disagreed with the concern, refused to change their username and/or continued to edit without replying to the warning.
- is not already blocked.
If, after having followed all the steps above, you still believe the username violates Wikipedia's username policy, you may list it here with an explanation of which part of the username policy you think has been violated. After posting, please alert the user of the discussion (with e.g. {{subst:UsernameDiscussion}}). You may also invite others who have expressed concern about the username to comment on the discussion by use of this template.
Add new requests below, using the syntax {{subst:rfcn1|username|2=reason ~~~~}}.

Please remember that this is not a vote, rather, it is a place where editors can come when they are unsure what to do with a username, and to get outside opinions (hence it's named "requests for comment"). There are no set time limits to the period of discussion.
- Place your report below this line. Please put new reports on the top of the list.
