Creating a page for an artist
Some artist ask us to create his page on Wikipedia and gave us the material to put it on, about, written books, monarchy, medals and distinctions, but when we finish the page it was in the same day delete and we can't understand why. I would like to know why you delete the page although does not promote violence, the pictures are his, it's not spam and everything is verified but you still delete the page. I was wondering what can I do to be able to get is page up and running with you deleting it? The artist really needs this, has he say is to enahace his work visibility, have a biography in a respectable site and let the world know hi and not just the country where is from. Thank you for your answer. Mboleo (talk) 05:10, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Mboleo: An article on a subject is not for their benefit; it is meant to inform readers about them, so long as their notability as Wikipedia defines it is established. Promotion is not what Wikipedia is for, and as such is heavily frowned upon on here. Please tell your artist to use social media networking sites like Instagram, Facebook, or (god forbid) TikTok. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 05:15, 31 July 2022 (UTC)

- @Mboleo: Then reliable, secondary sources that significantly cover the artist must be cited to establish his notability. If those aren't provided then there's no hope of there being an article on him. Just being
quite known
does not hold much weight here. Since you are also in contact with the artist, you must declare a conflict of interest (or any paid or employed relationship you may have), preferably on your user page. Also let the artist know that an article about him isn't necessarily a good thing. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 13:24, 31 July 2022 (UTC)

Vandalism help request from 2604:3D08:B184:F900:1900:67A0:B10C:8CA2
I have noticed some vandalism at PFM-1. Namely, constant edit and revisions related to claimed Ukrainian use of Russian cluster weapon in Donetsk, without citation, source or documentation. Suggest disputed template be added or article be locked to logged in users. Would an editor please assist me with fixing it? Thank you, 2604:3D08:B184:F900:1900:67A0:B10C:8CA2 (talk) 09:13, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
- I don't think the edits have been vandalistic, but there is an issue at the article that could use more editor attention. I removed some poorly sourced and undue content and commented at the talk page. For requests like this, I would recommend a noticeboard post over using the help desk. WP:NPOVN would have been a good choice for this. If you ever want to request protection of a page, see WP:RFPP Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 13:53, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
How can I block vulgar articles in Wikipedia?
I recently did a search for the name “Ana” in Wikipedia and in just the search suggestions, an article about anal sex with a vulgar image popped up at the top of the results. I like Wikipedia for the access to information, but I absolutely do not want to see articles like this, nor do I want my kids stumbling across them. - The poster is using the mobile version https://en.m.wikipedia.org and refers to Wikipedia's search suggestions after typing "Ana" in the search box. The second suggestion is Anal sex with File:Wiki-analsex.png displayed without going to the article. I admit that is a very graphic result when you haven't even written anal or clicked any link but as said, Wikipedia is not censored. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:24, 31 July 2022 (UTC)

- The images generally seem helpful. The feature uses the page image which is also used in other places. An image can be disallowed as page image per mw:Extension:PageImages#Can I exclude certain page images? But we do it very rarely and only for "random" images which are not representative of the article, not for censorship reasons. Whatever people think of this image, it does illustrate what the article is about. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:37, 31 July 2022 (UTC)

Add a foreign language article to a list
How do I add a German article on a writer to an English article listin notable people of a certain surname? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mommydoctor (talk • contribs) 14:32, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Mommydoctor: You don't. Those are not lists of people. They are lists of articles in the English Wikipedia. If there is a notable person without an English Wikipedia article, then you may create the article on that person, and then add the article to the list. Make sure the person meets the notability criteria for the English Wikipedia (WP:N), and only then proceed to WP:YFA. -Arch dude (talk) 15:09, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
- Mommydoctor (ec) Please exercise caution in doing this. The standards and policies of the German Wikipedia are different than those of this one, and what is acceptable there is not necessarily acceptable here. 331dot (talk) 15:12, 31 July 2022 (UTC)

The organization I am writing about is very hence no published resources about the organization. What sources should I use for referencing. Thanks WaxmanRono (talk) 15:34, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, WaxmanRono. An acceptable Wikipedia article summarizes what reliable, independent sources say about the topic, and significant coverage is required. If those published sources do not exist, then it is impossible to write an acceptable article. Cullen328 (talk) 16:10, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, WaxmanRono! I assume (as I think did Cullen328 above) that you meant to write "very new . . .". In this context, you may want to read our essay WP:Too soon. If your subject continues to be successful it's likely that, in time, more Reliable sources that are about your subject (a news agency) and independent of it will accumulate.
- Unfortunately, there is (I think) a tendency for news agencies and similar organisations (who would typify such sources) to avoid broadcasting/publishing very much about others in their field: positive things might promote a rival at their own expense, negative things might look petty and start a tit-for-tat exchange. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.201.73.20 (talk) 15:37, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

Please restore the page for Weird Al's Current Tour
There was a page for Weird Al Yankovics "The_Unfortunate_Return_of_the_Ridiculously_Self-Indulgent,_Ill-Advised_Vanity_Tour" that was recently deleted. There are pages for at least his 5 most recent tours, so it would stand to reason that this tour shoudl have a page as well. When I previously looked at this page it was occasionally being vandalized by someone who was deleting information from it and listing their edits as 'improvements'. Now the page is gone and all that exists is a redirect to the page about Al himself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:446:C200:3A45:E27B:58F4:7933:ACB6 (talk) 11:53, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- You seem to be referring to an article that was turned into a redirect. The content is still available at the old history tab. As far as I can see, the reason for the removal was that the only source for the information was Weird Al's website, which isn't WP:independent. You have started a discussion on Talk:"Weird Al" Yankovic, which is the correct venue. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:51, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- See also WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. GoingBatty (talk) 14:10, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for the reply. I find it odd that the entries for the current tour was deleted while independent entries for the most recent tours still exist. If it was just for lack of sources beyond Al's website, there are plenty of newspaper and A&E reviews of the tour that could be linked to. There was also no mention of this in the discussion for the page itself before it was deleted, it just simply went away one day without warning. 2601:446:C200:3A45:BDF0:9966:B340:7D0B (talk) 01:31, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

- The best thing to do is not attempt to do so further. You seem to have a common misunderstanding about Wikipedia in that it is not a place for companies to tell the world about themselves. The existence of your company is not in doubt, and is not the issue. This is not social media where mere existence warrants a mention- this is an encyclopedia with criteria for inclusion, called notability. The Wikipedia definition of a notable company is written at WP:ORG. Any article about your company must summarize what independent reliable sources have chosen on their own to say about it, showing how it meets that special definition. Sources like the company website, staff interviews, press releases, announcements of routine business transactions, and other primary sources do not establish notability.
- Wikipedia has articles, not pages, and those articles are not for the benefit of the subject in any way. There may be benefits, but those are on the side and not our primary goal. We have no interest in how the presence (or lack) of a Wikipedia article affects your business. Our only interest is in summarizing independent reliable sources. THe best way to do this is to allow independent editors to take note of your company in independent reliable sources and choose on their own to write about it(without any prompting). 331dot (talk) 08:30, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- To save anyone else the trouble, I did a quick Google search and don't see any independent coverage of the company. Just a nice website. That will make it very hard for anyone to do an article. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 23:04, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

Lua argument error in reflist
Hi folks -- I just made a small edit to this page using the visual editor: Carolyn Jefferson-Jenkins . When I saved the change, the entire reflist section was replaced with a whole bunch of this error: Lua error in Module:Citation/CS1 at line 1392: bad argument #1 to 'pairs' (table expected, got nil).
I hadn't touched that section, but I went to revert the change to start over, but when I view the previous versions of the page, they show that same error. Makes me wonder if there's a problem with the reflist tempate, but it doesn't seem to affect other pages I checked.

The only exception would be for an image that the site is falsely claiming is copyrighted but that is actually in the public domain (e.g. an image taken before 1927), but even then, you should go find and use the published image in the original publications and not the one on the "stock" website. -Arch dude (talk) 19:52, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

- In October 2011, Ditka and the 1985 team went to the White House after they did not attend in 1986 due to the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. He presented President Obama with a Chicago Bears jersey with the number 85 on it with "Obama" on the back of it.[1]

- ^ "Photo gallery: 1985 Chicago Bears visit the White House". Chicagotribune.com. October 7, 2011. Retrieved September 30, 2012.
- Clicking the link shows that the reference does indeed say 1985. As both the reference and our article say very clearly, it's the team from 1985. Obama was president in 2011 when the visit took place. Even if the external reference had an incorrect year in the title (it doesn't), we don't falsify titles of references so we would still have said 1985 on the link. Convert cents to dollars and cents?
Is there a template or something to easily convert a number of cents to a display of dollars and cents? For example, convert "37" to "$0.37", or "12345" to "$123.45" or "6" to "$0.06". I understand I could do something in Lua, or potentially by making a template that uses some string manipulation functions, but if there already is such a thing, I'd prefer to just use that. Thanks. -Rwv37 (talk) 05:09, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

The 1099 UK equivalate
Good day to you all, I am searching for the United Kingdom tax document that is the United States 1099 tax document, can you help me please, I am barrington 82.29.149.159 (talk) 06:36, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hi 82.29.149.159. This help desk is primarily for asking questions related to Wikipedia; it's not really a general information type of help desk. You can try asking about this at Wikipedia:Reference desk, but you might actually get faster results by simply Googling or Yahooing your question and seeing what comes up. I Googled "UK 1099 equivalent" and a number of search items showed up. Perhaps if you try that, you'll find the information you're looking for. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:45, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
How to demerge and create 2 seperate pages?
We had merged 2 company pages into Optare & Switch Mobility. As they were considered same. Now they are seperate entities and want to demerge. How can I proceed with this? We have been trying for very long, need help. Bhor.sankalp (talk) 07:45, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- First of all you need reliable, independent] sources that confirm your claim. Once you have those sources, open a discussion on the article talk page. Shantavira|feed me 08:22, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Bhor.sankalp: The Optare web site says they are part of Switch now. It seems the only thing that needs to be done is a page move to remove Optare from the title. You can discuss on the talk page. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 12:21, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Indian wikipedia editor
An editor asked me to find an Indian wikipedia editor for my entry on Riya Mukherjee since he/she would be more familiar with Indian media. How can I find an Indian editor for my entry (as recommended by another Wiki editor Henry_Templo. Gwenzil (talk) 08:39, 2 August 2022 (UTC)Wikipedia:WikiProject India
- Gwenzil, convenience link Draft:Riya Mukherjee. As HenryTemplo suggested, you could try Wikipedia:WikiProject India. Their talk page is Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics. TSventon (talk) 09:05, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
create a company wikipedia page
Hi,
I own a company that has been around for over 14 years, and quite well established, and has been included in many tier 1 publications. I am wondering how my company can aply for a wiipedia page?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ben 86.186.106.15 (talk) 09:09, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- You do not typically 'apply' for a Wikipedia article (not page). Articles are created by persons (editors) with no connection to a topic based on what has been written about the subject in independent, reliable sources. See the section above; #How I can create a page for our Company on Wikipedia?. Wikipedia cannot be used to publicise a business. Eagleash (talk) 09:19, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

Hello, could you please change url and name as Liv Bona Dea Hospital 84.51.15.114 (talk) 12:06, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- What is the new name, and please provide a source. You can also be bold and make the change yourself. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 12:09, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- You asked this last month. Have things changed since then to make your requested change more likely to succeed? Bazza (talk) 12:27, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- I see that Theroadislong has moved the article, and has also tagged it as probably not meeting Wikipedia's criteria for notability, so unless somebody attends to that, it is likely to get deleted. --ColinFine (talk) 14:08, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Nominated for deletion
Hi everyone, someone nominated a photograph for deletion in an article I wrote. I explained to him that I don't know the author of the photograph, as it was taken in the 1930s, and there is no signature or indication of who took it behind. I own the original of the photograph, and I am very happy for it to be in the public domain, but the person who nominated it for deletion is now not responding to my messages, and has left me in this situation. The deletion message shows on the article, which isn't great. Would appreciate some help. Thanks! Altaruse (talk) 12:54, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Altaruse! The deletion has now been performed by the very experienced editor Theroadislong, with whom you should discuss the matter. I see no message from you on Theroadislong's Talk page or on the Article's Talk page so far.
- Please remember that all Wikipedia editors are (presumably like yourself), unpaid volunteers working from home or other places of internet access whenever they choose: none of them work to any set schedule, and all of them have lives to lead, so you should never expect any response from another particular editor in less than a few days. (Also, it's the middle of the holiday season in the Northern hemisphere.) Remember, Wikipedia has no deadlines.
- As you've already been advised, possession of a photo (whether print or negative, etc.) in itself does not convey copyright in it, which (in the absence of a legal contract) remains with its creater (and their subsequent estate) for a considerable time: however I see that File:Leo Junek (1899-1993).jpg includes extensive data to suggest that it's in the public domain. Also, since the subject is deceased, Fair use may come into play. These issues are what need to be discussed. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.201.73.20 (talk) 13:51, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Professionals who want Wikipedia entries
Hi, I'm a journalist and author based in London, UK. I know many professionals who are high achievers who deserve to have a page. What is the best way to go about it. Someone called Jonathan Parker of Wikiproficiency based in Los Angeles just contacted me and wanted to charge at least $500 for an entry but I am suspicious of him. 82.17.9.184 (talk) 13:05, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- You can see WP:YFA for a good overview of how to put together an article. For articles on living individuals, there is a more strict policy for article content, covered at WP:BLP. From a glance at their website, I agree with your assessment on Wikiproficiency, they seem to make several Vague and Misleading claims, and "Jonathan Parker" is just a name for a chatbot. I also don't see the organization mentioned anywhere on wiki at the moment. You can see WP:PAID for more information regarding paid editors. WelpThatWorked (talk) 13:22, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- I would also recommend reading Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing for some negatives of having a Wikipedia article before deciding to go about it. Alpha3031 (t • c) 13:27, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- You are right to be suspicious of anyone who promises to create articles here for payment. Most will fail for various reasons including their incompetence. See also WP:SCAM. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:43, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- Wikipedia has articles about "notable" subjects, not "deserving" subjects: See WP:N. If a subject is not notable, no article will be accepted. Wikipedia does not endorse any paid editor, and there are a lot of scammers out there. Notable subjects generally attract interested volunteer editors. A desire to have a Wikipedia article about oneself usually indicates a basic misunderstanding about the nature of Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arch dude (talk • contribs) 13:47, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
"Welcome to your talk page"?
When I logged in I had a childish "start page" put on my talk page. I have seen a couple of others. Is there some way I can remove it from my own Talk page? Sammy D III (talk) 13:18, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- The View history tab seems to show that at 00:16 UTC today you replaced all of the previous contents with this . . . thing, but presumably you didn't do so deliberately; perhaps it's a mis-performing new "feature".
- I suggest you go to the history and undo that latest revision. Hope this helps. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.201.73.20 (talk) 13:36, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Sammy D III: This is a new "feature" of the way User Talk Pages work. Any completely blank Talk Page now shows this banner: it is not edited into the page and will disappear after any new content (not categories, apparently) are added. I have no idea who dreamed this up.... Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:53, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

- @Bazza 7: Neither worked, and the banner doesn't show up in Preview so you have to post it to see if it's still there. I'll just leave a small, stupid section. Whatever. I think they're just trying to grab editors off the street. Have a nice day/night. Sammy D III (talk) 16:39, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

Requesting To Alter Information About Nikki Fried
I noticed that the comment about Nikki Fried distancing herself from Charlie Crist mentioned that she criticized him for Florida's inadequate unemployment compensation system and that a following comment claimed that the inadequacy was created by Rick Scott. I wish to ask that this all be corrected because Charlie Crist was in fact governor during the recessionary period from 2008 to 2009 which did have a poor unemployment compensation program and very bad supervision. The only thing that Rick Scott did was make the compensation so small that it was insignificant and ineffective at helping families. Crist belonged to the political decision from many that decreased the amount of funds in reserve that would be kept for the unemployment compensation program. 2601:703:0:11D0:EDD7:8D95:46C7:2F64 (talk) 15:37, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

BurgerFi Edit
Can someone please edit this page for me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BurgerFi The new location is Fort Lauderdale, Florida, not palm beach, and CEO is no longer Julio Ramirez. It is CEO Ian Baines and President Patrick Renna Jrauth23 (talk) 15:51, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hello. The place to request this is at the talk page Talk:BurgerFi. The fact that you've asked for somebody to edit the page "for me" suggests to me that you have a connection with the business: if so, thank you for asking rather than going ahead to do it yourself. If that is the case, please declare your conflict of interest on your user page; or if you are in any way compensated by or in connection with that business, make a formal declaration of yourself as a paid editor. Then you can make an edit request on the talk page (see that link for details) and somebody will look at your request. You can make it more likely that a volunteer will pick up the request by citing a reliable published source for he changes. ColinFine (talk) 15:54, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
Relinking
Is Special:Diff/1101557769 appropriate? Utfor (talk) 15:57, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- Utfor Not something I'd worry about but has already been reverted. The lead sentence is still a WP:SEAOFBLUE which I'd be more concerned about. I think that readers would know what "restaurant" means without linking it, for example. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:11, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- Is it OK now, with the link turned blue? And if it isn't, why is similar linking to fast-food restaurant OK? Utfor (talk) 18:27, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- Well, it is consistent with the rest of the article; however, the article is grossly overlinked (see WP:OVERLINK). For example, food and menu are linked, which does nothing to help the readers' understanding of the article. 2603:6081:1C00:1187:49B4:94C7:A931:F855 (talk) 19:52, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

Request to review new article
Hi I created a new Wikipedia article (Nizar Hassan) and, if possible, I would appreciate an experienced editor to review/patrol it and/or give me feedback on how to improve it. Thanks! -- Samer.hc (talk) 21:54, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- Not a new pages patroller, but the page seems like a decent start. My main complaint would be that the "interviewed by/cited by" bit seems excessively specific, and doesn't really convey anything a shorter statement wouldn't. WelpThatWorked (talk) 22:12, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- I recommend deleting the entire "International visibility" section, which tells us almost nothing about him. You could instead try to find some independent sources (not based on what he has said), which tell us something about him, or about his political views. Maproom (talk) 07:33, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
edit donation's message
Hi. Where do I edit the message about donations that pops up when I opened WP? It goes on asking for money because we are reliable and so on, while having a duplicated word (this this). Hooray for good proof reading! :-) - Nabla (talk) 22:28, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- Nabla, you might want to bring this up in WP:VPW, since us editors cannot control the content of the donation banners. Also, you definitely don't need to donate. The WMF has more than enough money for the next few years. Sungodtemple (talk) 02:58, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
Get Published
Im having trouble figuring out how to get published MRTopNotchNME (talk) 22:31, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
- If this [1] is what you are trying to publish, I wouldn't bother. It has absolutely zero chance of being accepted as an article. This is an encyclopaedia (or at least attempts to be), not a provider of free advertising space. Read Wikipedia:FAQ to find out what is actually required. And then read Wikipedia:Username policy, since you are going to need a new one to contribute further. AndyTheGrump (talk) 22:57, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

Template indicating additional info is available in a foreign Wikipedia article
My turn to ask a question. I know if you do a translation of a foreign language Wikipedia article, you can tag the talk page with something like {{Translated page|fr|Acerum}}, which I added to Talk:Acerum after starting the translation. But what is the template for alerting editors that there's info that can be found in another language Wikipedia? For example, I was about to AfD Sixten Korkman, but saw this [[2]]. I don't want to do the translation, but another Finnish reader might, and it might save people from doing an unnecessary AfD. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 01:07, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

Tried to upload image; file name already existed
I changed the file name, uploaded again. Instructions said to "contact help desk" to reassign the new image (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a5/MilesPuppy.jpg) to the desired page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucas_Terrier
Thank you! LRM100 (talk) 03:48, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hi LRM100. Is File:MilesPuppy.jpg the file you uploaded? Do you want to replace the current image in Lucas Terrier with the file you uploaded? Is there something wrong with the file that's currently being used for primary identification purposes in the main infobox of the article? Is there some encyclopedic reason why you think the file you uploaded should be used instead? I apologize for all the questions, but the current image seems fine (at least at first glance); so, it's not clear why it needs to be changed (if that's what you want to do). However, I don't know much about that particular breed; so, you might want to try seeking feedback at Talk:Lucas Terrier or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Dogs before changing the photo. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:12, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
