Files for discussion (FfD) is for listing images and other media files which may be unneeded or have either free content or non-free content usage concerns. Files that have been listed here for more than 7 days are eligible for either deletion or removal from pages if either a consensus to do so has been reached or the nominator specifically requests deletion or removal and no objections are raised. To quote the non-free content criteria, "it is the duty of users seeking to include or retain content to provide a valid rationale; those seeking to remove or delete it are not required to show that one cannot be created." For undeletion requests, first contact the administrator who deleted the file. If you are unable to resolve the issue with that administrator, the matter should be brought to deletion review. Examples of what files you may request for discussion, deletion or change here:
If you have questions if something should be deleted, consider asking at Media Copyright Questions. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Instructions for listing files for discussion Use Twinkle. If you can't, follow these steps to do manually:
State the reasons why the file should be deleted, removed, or altered. Also, state what specific action should be taken, preferably in bold text; this allows discussion participants and closers to better understand the purpose of the nomination. Some examples of nomination statements include:
These are not the only "valid" reasons to discuss a file. Any properly explained reason can be used. The above list comprises the most common and uncontroversial ones. If you remove a file from an article, list the article from which you removed it so there can be community review of whether the file should be deleted. This is necessary because file pages do not remember the articles on which the file were previously used. |

Instructions for discussion participation
In responding to the deletion nomination, consider adding your post in the format
* '''View''' - Reasoning ... -- ~~~~
where "Delete", "Keep", "Comment", or something else may replace "View". In posting their reasoning, many editors use abbreviations and cite to the following:
- Wikipedia:NFCC#1 – Free equivalent is/is not available
- Wikipedia:NFCC#8 – Significance
- Wikipedia:Non-free content#Images 2 – Unacceptable image use
Remember that polling is not a substitute for discussion. Wikipedia's primary method of determining consensus is through editing and discussion, not voting. Although editors occasionally use straw polls in an attempt to test for consensus, polls or surveys sometimes impede rather than assist discussion. They should be used with caution, and are no more binding than any other consensus decision.
Also remember that if you believe that an image is potentially useful for other projects and should be moved to Wikimedia Commons, in lieu of responding '''Move to Commons'''
, you can move it there yourself. See Wikipedia:Moving files to the Commons for instructions.
Instructions for closing discussions

Current usages in American popular music, Jefferson Airplane, and White Rabbit (song) may fail WP:NFCC#8 and WP:NFCC#3a. Defaulting to favor deleting this sample if there's no opposition, but I can stand corrected. George Ho (talk) 05:48, 23 September 2022 (UTC)

File:Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing - Donny & Marie Osmond.jpg
- File:Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing - Donny & Marie Osmond.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by JGabbard ( | contribs | uploads | upload log).
First time I nominated this cover, I was just questioning its presence when it brands a cover version of a hit song by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing". Furthermore, I initially thought the cover version itself didn't make much huge impact. Too bad certain editors disagree. Second time I nominated this, I also nominated the one I uploaded concurrent, hoping for more consensus. However, the only participants were only the uploader and I, who tried to make compromise and disagreed about which sole image to use to represent the cover version.
This and the third time, I'm nominating solely this German cover art in order to comply with WP:NFCC#3a and/or WP:NFCC#8. The uploader said something interesting when I first nominated the cover art: the Osmonds' cover is notable, having charted in the biggest music market in the world, the United States. That means that it was played by Casey Kasem on American Top 40 and thus aired worldwide.
However, the American music stores received the US edition(s) that lacked a picture sleeve as evident in discogs, 45cat, and an eBay listing. One must question why the German cover art, originally distributed in Germany, is used in the song article when the US edition didn't use a picture sleeve in "the biggest music market in the world". Possibly to help readers identify singers on the front cover? To help readers recognize the song title? Furthermore, the cover version itself was recorded in the US by the American music duo.
In order words, let's scrap the German cover art and display a portion of the US release, regardless of how the US single currently is to modern music listeners (and classics enthusiasts?). George Ho (talk) 19:43, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

- But do you have a better image? Isn't something better than nothing? I did take a video of this view in 2020, which might be better. https://www.instagram.com/p/CEkh0uQDhCw I could post a still from that, but not quite sure how Aebarschall (talk) 05:23, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- One of the reasons Wikipedia has become such a widely used resource is because many editors care about the quality of the project, and do not believe that low-quality is better than nothing. I was not able to locate a high-quality image of Randolph, New Hampshire. Your video was better quality. Magnolia677 (talk) 09:57, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
Keep. Yes, the image is low resolution, but it succeeds in conveying what there is to convey, namely that Randolph is mostly forest, with mountains/hills on both sides. A higher resolution image would let you see more individual trees, but how important is that? MOS:IMAGEQUALITY gives examples of what constitutes a poor-quality image; the image in question is not deficient to the extent of any of those examples. I just now uploaded File:Esquire 80th anniversary october 2013.png to replace this (other) cover now used as the infobox image. De-PRODded only because the 85th anniversary cover, one of my uploads I had deleted just now, didn't appease an editor who challenged the PROD tag. Alternatively, a "no lead image" option would be possible, but I wonder whether it's viable and suits readers well. If not, then let's go for the 80th anniversary cover, filled with individual photos of individual men. George Ho (talk) 21:50, 6 October 2022 (UTC)

Fails WP:NFCCP#8 as it does not have enough contextual significance since it is not an identifying cover. The cover is not used to identify this product (single/song) on any platform except YouTube Music. This is actally the cover of another product, namely, the album Juntos Otra Vez, see here. YouTube Music used that cover minus the album name to identify the single, since the song appears on that album, but the cover is not an identifying cover for the single. Muhandes (talk) 05:17, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- Keep - Because even thought only YouTube Music have it as a cover, it was the duo or record companies choice to have it as a cover. Also this cover does not have the words "Juntos Otra Ves" on the cover. The album "Juntos Otra Ves" does. So there's a little difference that anyone can notice. Also, if the album was ever made, the cover with the title on it would be used instead of this image. I guess I should have renamed it as the album's image in order to keep the image. I have done it for two singles from group and because it was used in those singles in multiple music streaming services, it stayed and also they were alternate covers.

— Note to closing admin: DominicanWikiEdit1996 (talk • contribs) is the creator of the page that is the subject of this XfD.
- This does not answer the concern that the image lacks contextual significance as the product is not recognized by this image, since this image is already used to recognize the album. I'm not sure what you mean by "if the album was ever made"; the album exists on multiple outlets and is always using this cover for identification. --Muhandes (talk) 16:38, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- What I meant to say by "if" referred to the fact that if a wiki page was ever made, two images would different from each other. I know the album exist. I am a huge fan of the duo and have don't a lot of edits for them on Wikipedia. Anyways, I actually have another image that could replace the cover. However, it is just a picture of the single CD. But since I have seen some wiki pages of songs using just the CD or vinyl images like some of Michael Jackson's songs like Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, Rock with You, and Off the Wall have a vinyl as the image cover for the songs' wiki pages. This image is on Discogs and could be a good replacement. Also I wanted to say thanks for inviting me to discuss the situation with you about the album "Como en los Tiempos de Antes". Even though we are disagreeing about this image, we're still able to help each other in solving the other issue. DominicanWikiEdit1996 (talk) 21:05, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

This is the Twitter profile picture, but I fail to see how this is fair use. We have images in the article for the managers of the account, and this isn't a logo for the account, rather an image from a different intellectual property. The image gives no critical commentary on the topic itself. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 06:35, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- Keep as uploader – I would classify the profile picture of a Twitter account-based organization as its logo. We presume in good faith that they licensed said logo fairly – if not, that's not our problem, it'll get taken down or switched and we'll do the same. It's an identifiable symbol of the account, and I think it serves that purpose well. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/her) 17:24, 16 October 2022 (UTC)

Photo is listed in the Tennessee State Library & Archives Catalog and the Tennessee Virtual Archive (TeVA), and both state that the copyright status has not be evaluated. The latter specifies: "Materials in TeVA are available for purposes of education, personal use, historical research, and other 'fair use' as defined by U.S. Copyright Law." The photograph does not appear online on the Chattanooga Public Library website with different information; TeVA is linked from the CPL's website though, which might be the point of conflation or confusion.
The important point here is that the image is tagged stating that it was published between 1927 and 1977 without a copyright notice. While it is true that the image itself is not watermarked with a notice, there's no proof it was published in that range of years. From the archives records, it appears that the photo was created in 1967 and placed in the archives in the "Tennessee Department of Conservation Photograph Collection, 1937-1976", which is not publication. If anything, the photograph was not published, i.e. made available to the public, until the digital copy was placed online, well after 1977, and on websites that currently bear "© 2022" notices. Imzadi 1979 → 06:29, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
- I obtained this photograph in person from the Chattanooga Public Library, with permission. I had no idea it was already published online. Bneu2013 (talk) 06:35, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Bneu2013: unless the CPL owns the photograph, they couldn't give you permission to use it here. Libraries can say they'll give you permission for personal use, or fair use, or at least say they're giving such a permission.
- As noted, it appears that the photograph is owned by the Tennessee Department of Conservation, so that state department would own the copyright in the image. If the photo is considered unpublished, then that copyright will expire after 2087, 120 years after creation. Otherwise, it will expire 95 years after the first year it was published. Imzadi 1979 → 06:50, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Imzadi1979: - the TeVA link says it is owned by TSLA. The photograph came from a database run by TSLA that is accessible in a few other locations throughout the state, including the Chattanooga Public Library, where I happened to obtain it.Bneu2013 (talk) 07:08, 16 October 2022 (UTC)

- I think there are page from Russian wiki? They're upload image. Bonthefox3 (talk) 08:59, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Bonthefox3: Russian Wikipedia has its own non-free content policy, as for each individual Wikipedia projects. English Wikipedia has somewhat stricter WP:NFCC policy than other projects. Wikipedia prefers to use freely-licensed images whenever it's possible.
- Also for another non-free image uploaded by you on used on the same page, File:Спутниковый снимок Крымского моста после взрыва 8 октября.png, you didn't explain why it's not replaceable in the rationale either. Although the image is not from commercial source, like AP and Getty, I think this might not be needed as it's adequately described by text in the article, and the image should be replaceable with freely-licensed alternatives as anyone can go there and take a free photo of the bridge after the explosion, as it's reopened to traffic, and upload to Commons, or maybe a public domain ISS image from NASA. --Stylez995 (talk) 09:28, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

Unsure whether the Fontana Records logo is below the US threshold of originality. Nonetheless, images containing the logo were deleted on Commons because the logo is still copyrighted in the Netherlands, its home country, for almost six more years. Should be "PD-ineligible-USonly" if considered below the threshold. George Ho (talk) 19:36, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

2m39 feels as though it strays beyond what might be considered a "clip" length, and resolution is over SD. -- AtomCrusher 21:09, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- If someone better skilled with the tech than me can reduce the resolution, fine, go ahead. As for the length, we have never set any maximum length for film clips as we have for music (and I think even that's too rigid). I agree that something like 5 minutes would probably be too long in any event, but as for this scene, that was as short as I could get it without leaving any of the encyclopedic value out—Paul Bateson's participation in the scene, its realism and historical importance, and the general importance of that scene to the film—all of which are supported by reliably sourced commentary in the accompanying text or elsewhere in the article. To be honest I didn't realize the scene was that long until I prepared the video ... it feels shorter, and probably certainly did to all the people in the audience who were induced to vomit by it during the film's original release. Exceeds MOS:SAMPLE's ten-percent limit, violating WP:NFCC#3b. Fixable if it complies with WP:NFCC#8, i.e. is contextually significant. However, I'm unconvinced that it helps readers contextually understand the whole song. George Ho (talk) 23:58, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

Today is October 18 2022. Put new nominations in Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2022 October 18 – ()
If the current date's page has been started without the header, apply {{subst:Ffd log}} to the top of the day's page.
Please ensure "===October 18===" is at the very top of the new page so that internal page links from the main Files for discussion page (the one you're on now) work.
The page Wikipedia:Files for discussion/Today will always show today's log.
