Thank you for attending! Wiki World's Fair - Your complimentary shirt! | |
---|---|
Thank you User:Pharos for attending the Wiki World's Fair at the Queens Museum in August! A round of applause to all who attended, socialized, gave lightning talks, edited, listened, and toured the Panorama of the City of New York. Thank you to Xavier Robles-Armas and the Queens Museum for having us. For the first time in Wikimania history, we held a T-shirt design contest during the event to generate a shirt for the conference. We are excited to announce we have produced a shirt with the winning design by User:Bagelpigeon. As previously announced, the shirts will be given, free of charge, to those that attended the conference. You are a confirmed attendee and now is your chance to claim your free shirt! If you want a shirt, we need your size!
What size are you? Please fill out this Google form or email: Wil@Wikimedianyc.org (One "L") Once we have everyone's size and we will order them and distribute them at local meet-ups or via mail. If you are out of town, please include your mailing address. The shirts will be available Feb or later. (User:Pharos, you, are seen here wearing a size large) Please let us know by January 15 or come to Wikipedia Day 2023 at the Jefferson Market Library and let us know in person! |

Directories using Wikidata
@Pharos: Ziski Putz suggested I ask you about asking a WALRUS (or SWAN?) meeting about how to create and maintain organizational directories based in Wikidata? I have two applications for this:
- PeaceWorks Kansas City has a "Community Organization Directory of Peace, justice, environment, and human rights groups in the Kansas City Metro", which has not been maintained since 2018 but is still attracting a substantial audience.
- People with Friends of Community Media and the Community of Reason Kansas City want to create a directory of local news outlets.
I think I could crowdsource the creation and maintenance of directories like this if I could identify (or create) the Wikidata properties needed to select Wikidata items based on the type and geographic region.
If I understood how to do this, I could create prototype entries and a SPARQL query to create prototypes of the desired directories. Then I could organize Edit-a-thons (or one-on-one sessions) to crowdsource creation and maintenance of the directories. If I can do this for these two applications, I could then post a tutorial on how to do it to Wikiversity, make a presentation on it at a future Wikimania, etc.
Suggestions? Thanks, DavidMCEddy (talk) 05:57, 26 February 2023 (UTC)

Mar 8: WikiWednesday Salon by Grand Central
Mar 8: WikiWednesday Salon by Grand Central | |
---|---|
![]() The gathering is in the vicinity of Grand Central Terminal. You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community and visitors from the global Wikimedia Foundation for our WikiWednesday Salon by Grand Central, in-person at Convene 101 Park Avenue in the vicinity of Manhattan's Grand Central Terminal. No experience of anything at all is required. All are welcome! This is somewhat of a sequel to last year's Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Brunch in terms of the participants, though this time it is an evening event in a different borough. We may leaven the event with a few impromptu lightning talks, a Wiki-fashion show (yes, really!), and likely an afterparty tour. All attendees are subject to Wikimedia NYC's Code of Conduct. In addition, to participate in person you should be vaccinated and also be sure to respect others' personal space, and we may limit overall attendance size if appropriate.
